The experience was nothing special. We returned the calamari appetizer because it was overcooked and rubbery. The menu claimed it was accompanied by aioli, but whatever the soupy sauce was, it was definitely not aioli. A quaint, French inspired dining room would be better served by bistro type jazz or French music, not 80s pop songs. We will give credit for the crab, avocado, tomato stack as being a good dish, but nothing else among our entrees was inspired or a standard setter.
Food was excellent but highly over priced
We had indicated in the reservation that we wanted separate checks and upon arrival hostess/server was clueless on going about executing this - after insisting we do it it was executed well.
We wanted bread for the table while waiting for food to be prepared and we had to ask for it and only some of us were given the excuse bring it was still being heated up.
Food was excellent but highly over priced-
A huge price tag for the quality of service.
We picked this based on the menu online and the menu was completely different. Left ya with very few choices
Great ambiance. The lamb sliders were good but not memorable good. The servers were veery nice and attentive.
Server had no idea how to serve a bottle of wine. Service pace too fast or too slow. Food was good not great. Open air at the entire front of the restaurant on a 90 degree day made it very HOT at our table in the back of the room.
The food was fabulous! However, the service was lacking to some degree in that the waiter was not attentive and did not offer bread to my table or check back to see if we needed anything.
Met a friend for weekday breakfast at Cafe Soleil. Neither of us had been there before and we were pleasantly surprised. One of the chief benefits is that it is right by the Farragut metro and convenient to the bus lines. Inside the restaurant is quite charming-- definitely had a European cafe feel to it (sidewalk dining is available but we sat inside due to the heat).
Breakfast had a nice range of choices. My friend ordered the Salmon and Eggs and found it delicious. I had the French Toast and it was some of the best I have ever had. An extra bonus was that the side of fruit was fresh and plentiful. I had ordered bacon on the side which was forgotten. Comically the waiter returned with a dinner plate full of bacon-- maybe to make up for the commission? The extra bacon was very appreciated by my friend and me. We lingered over breakfast and I was pleased to see that the staff didn't seem to mind, but also the restaurant was close to empty.
I would highly recommend the Cafe and I would have given a higher rating except for two things-- the service could have been better. Although the restaurant was not busy we had to call out to staff for things like refills and to get the check. Also, as much as I hate to say it the coffee was undrinkable. Given the European flare of the Cafe and the quality of the food, this was extremely disappointing. The coffee served tasted old and bitter.
I would recommend Cafe Soleil -- I'd love to try it for lunch someday-- but I would bring my own Starbucks if I came for breakfast.
Lovely food - perfect portion sizes and nicely cooked fish and veggies but please serve more than one brand of beer.
Very cute, French bistro atmosphere. The lunch selections were a little limited, but we all found something to enjoy—the salad Nicoise, moule frit and the triple berry kale salad were all delightful. They quitexa nice Happy Hour drinks and snacks menu. We’ll have to check it out sometime.
Weekday lunch, not crowded, linen tablecloth, attentive staff and well presented food made for relaxing meal that made one want to linger. Would come back.
We had a delightful meal at Cafe Soleil; attentive, hospitable wait staff and exceptionally delicious main courses: shrimp scampi and sea bass. Tasty, fresh ingredients, appropriate portion sizes coupled with an excellent wine selection, served without haste made for a relaxing evening. It seems the OpenTable ratings are accurate. We will certainly return!
I had a party of 9 at 5:30 in the afternoon after a graduation celebration at DAR Constitution Hall. The restaurant was very, very accomodating with changing the registration - we made it earlier - and adding an extra person at the last minute. The food was excellent, the service terrific, the prices reasonable. I personally really enjoyed my steak frites. The desserts are wonderful. This was an all-around grreat, great time. I highly recommend this place.
This place had good reviews which is why we ate there for breakfast. It was okay. Not many people there. Food was good for breakfast but service felt choppy; like they weren’t ready for us or to provide service.
Quiet, but yet rude! We are human. You treated my son on his 21st Birthday. Not polite!
Service and location and ambiance was great but the food was mediocre at best. We ate it, but we won't be going back. Sorry. Maybe an off night for the chef.
There were a lot of reviews about the service, but I found it quite good. Not rushed, relaxed and never had to ask for anything, including refills and/or the check.
Unfortunately the dish I had super over ripe avocados-to the point of almost being spoiled--but my friend, who had a kale salad with berries and chicken enjoyed it. I think quality control, from the food perspective, may be an issue-but excellent tea (not sweet) and comfortable ambience would have me try CS again.
Cafe Soleil is always predictable and a good value for money. It is also convenient for meeting people due to is central location and 2 metro stations. Since many World Bank consultants stay near by, everyone knows it, too!
This is not a fast food place, but a full gourmet experience with outstanding service. A real discovery.
Understated elegance in this charming little restaurant with thoughtfully prepared dishes and an exceptionally capable staff. One of Washington's most underrated gems, especially in the nice weather, when they open it up to the outdoors.
Central location, great ambiance and quiet enough for conversation without shouting; lovely when the windows are open on a nice day, though occasional street noise from big trucks can be annoying). Very good food for a variety of tastes, and nails my preference for a Mediterranean diet spot on. The wait staff can be a little difficult to communicate with (took way much more effort than it should’ve to get across my request for olive oil instead of butter with my bread). But in general, the staff are very nice and eager to accommodate. I’ll definitely be back.
Very well prepared and classic menu of continental catch all cuisine. The waiter recommended the scallops which were amazing as well as the clams casino. The filet was prepared as ordered and the lamb was classic and delicious.
Only one thing we felt was not enjoyed was the shrimp scampi, which was heavy handed spicy, even for someone who enjoys spicy foods. It was blasted with both white pepper and cayenne blocking any taste of the shrimp. Its savior was the beautiful pasta in their own styled Alfredo sauce which gave some solice to the pallet burned by the pepper. If you love it Hot this ones for you.
Desserts were simple but on point. Very local neighborhood feel as far as service and ambiance.
Would we return...absolutely!
It was pleasant, the food was good, nice location and not outrageously expensive. Tables were a little close together for my liking.
I have eaten here before and it was excellent. This time however I ordered a filet mignon with mashed potatoes. What they served was a completely different type of steak and sautéed vegetables. I was a little disappointed.
Wonderful menu and atmosphere, delicious food. Thought I’d discovered all the restaurants in this area but this was a hidden gem!
Restaurant lost out ticket and our lunch was delayed an hour. To their credit, they were apologetic and comp'd the meal.
Just so so food. Price was a bit high for what you get. Nothing outstanding.
Always charming, great food, good traditional service, and lovely ambience. My go-to restaurant for business talk or social.
Aware good food here!
Good food, fair prices. 90s hits on the radio didn't really match the decor of the restaurant and the staff was helpful and sweet.
One of my favorite places to eat. Menu has a definite French flair, but has other items as well. Very good value. Much more than Steak & Frites and French Onion soup, but those are definitely on the menu along with scallops, onion tart, lamb, salmon, and more. We will definitely make a return visit.
The service here is great and the food is usually good, Keep in mind that it is a small space and is very LOUD. You are also close to the other tables so it feels tight at times. The best time of year to eat here (in my opinion) is in the warm weather when they open the large windows onto Connecticut Avenue NW. If you are setting a business meeting be aware of noise levels; if you are meeting a friend it is a great location with a solid menu selection.
Tip was included in the bill without any warning and without us requesting it. Highly unusual for a US-based restaurant. Also, it looked sneaky, as the server didn’t notify us that the tip was included. It was discovered in small font and only after careful review of the bill.
We arrived for our dinner reservation and we were seated immediately. Our server was friendly, attentive without being overbearing or hovering, and professional. She recommended a wine choice for a seafood entree we were interested in ordering - so we said yes - to the entree and the pairing! Our meals - a burger and fries in addition to the fish - were delivered hot, and tasted great. Our server kept our glasses full and cleared away used plates as needed in a timely fashion. The restaurant was quiet - a few empty tables, two or three at the bar - which led to a relaxed atmosphere for the patrons. The restrooms are located in the hotel connected to the restaurant by a doorway in the hotel lobby, on the second floor. We left satisfied, relieved and talking about what we would like to try when we return someday.
An old friend that still has its charm. Go for happy hour and stay for dinner.
A lovely restaurant in the middle of the city. White table clothes, a nice menu and an enjoyable place for lunch.
Cafe Soleil is a quiet and pleasant environment for dinner. (It is very busy for lunch) The food is excellent, the service is a little slow if you have somewhere you need to be after dinner.
I would recommend Cafe Soleil but with caveats. I love the location, the ambiance, the service was great. The food, however, was not good. I'd be reluctant to recommend to business partners and would definitely NOT do a business lunch at Cafe Soleil. I might try their happy hour. It is a nice place for a quiet conversation between friends.
I love this place. Clubby feel, cozy bar and great food. Love the fried calamari and lamb sliders! Everything is great!
I made a reservation for 3pm and arrived just before just to be told that I couldn't be seated because they didn't open til 4p. If so, how could a 3pm reservation be made/accepted...? Nonetheless, I later looked up (cause I was sitting outside the restaurant in the hotel lobby) and noticed that a lady was sitting AND being served while seat inside at the bar. Unacc hostess service!!
