We consider Cafe Sole one of our half dozen favorite restaurants in the world. The food, service, and ambience are extraordinary as well as very "Key West" casual. This visit was exactly as we anticipated and we will savor the memory until we return. A must visit in Key West.
We were recommended to cafe Sole by a resident of Key West. It is walkable from the pier and on quiet area of Key West which was welcomed. We had Jenna as our server, lovely and engaging. My husband had the lobster bisque, snapper, I had the Chef’s specialty Hog snapper which Jenna was knowledgeable on difference of the fishes. The dishes are served with potatoes both sweet and white and fava beans. Has extensive wine list and loved the key lime pie with toasted marshmallow. On leaving we spoke with Owner/Chef and that made the whole night memorable.
This restaurant is a hidden treasure located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The signature hog fish special is one of the best dishes and all of Key West! We always make a point to dining here when in town but were disappointed with our service last night. Our waitress apparently had a problem with the table next to us and the owner at some point came to apologize. We told her we wanted to order some soup and look at the menu. She disappeared and did not return to take our dinner order until after we had finished her soup. We ordered two appetizers and an entrée . They only delivered one of the appetizers (delicious baked artichoke w crab meat) and when we mentioned it to her, she Responded “you didn’t order the lamb chops.” By the time our meal was complete, we were the only people left in the restaurant. The meal was great but I think they need to pay more attention to the service end of things
delicious food especially their specialty"hogfish" we sat in booth that was very cold surrounded by racks of wine ...which I think they used as wine cooling area....I thought given all the marvelous places to eat it was pricey but if you want good food this is nice place..
Our first time to Cafe Sole after several strong recommendations from locals. The atmosphere is romantic and charming. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food is outstanding quality. The hogfish snapper was beautifully prepared and delicious. We could go on and on...ostrich medallions, Floridian lobster tails, saganyaki...
Cafe Sole was a major disappointment. I find it hard to say anything good about it. The food preparation was poor to mediocre. It lacked taste expected in a fine dining restaurant and in some cases was cold. The service was at best OK. Our waiter knew little about the preparation methods and was pretty slow. And the prices were way in excess of the quality. Just about everything was poor. I would just stay away!!!!!
We ate Thanksgiving dinner here and made reservations in advance. The service was excellent and the menu had great choices and also offered a traditional Thanksgiving meal which a few of our group preferred. The Hogfish was our favorite and we would highly recommend it.
We have always enjoyed eating here. Unfortunately, our thanksgiving experience was less than satisfactory. We were seated promptly, our drink orders taken promptly as well. The restaurant was not crowded at all, but we were rushed by our waiter, Christoph. No time to given and enjoy drinks, dinner order rushed and then plunked down in less than 5 minutes. At this price, utterly deplorable. Restaurant only half full. 7:00 reservation and we were back in hotel by 8:15. Will probably not return on our next trip. And we come to Key West every year.
We had dinner at Café Sole based purely on online reviews. We found the food to be excellent. All dishes were executed to perfection and made from high grade ingredients. Escargot was excellent and all the fish dishes were remarkable. The presence of a number of French speaking patrons was a great indication of the chef's training. Excellent find!
The seafood risotto appetizer was superb. We each had that and shared the Ingram salad first. That was delicious as well. Ask for Jason as your waiter 😊. In the past we have had the hogfish which is excellent, but we weren’t quite that hungry tonight. Comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
We have been going to KW the last 17 years, but this is our first time visiting Cafe Sole. How could we miss it! The menu had great variety from apertizer to desert, the wine choices will match all tastes and pocketbooks, and our seating provided enough privacy that my date and I had a wonderful conversation talking in normal voices. Cafe Sole is family run which shows in the great service. John C. the owner, stopped by our table to be sure his son Jason was taking good care of us. Soon John was talking to us like old friends giving us how he and his family visited KY and basicly moved from France to KW and never went back.
We definitely will be back before we leave and on future visits.
This was our third visit to Cafe Sole and it has been consistently excellent. I always order the hogfish snapper. It absolutely melts in your mouth! I also ordered the gazpacho and a friend ordered the portobello soup. We then shared the Napoleon Beet Salad. All were great. The wait staff are very professional and attentive. I have no complaints and can't imagine anyone not liking the food or the service.
Our reservation was for 6 o'clock and we were the first table . By the time we left, there were no empty tables.
Once again Cafe Sole exceeded our expectations. The hogfish entrees were fantastic. Melts like butter in your mouth. Chef even adjusted the dish so I could have a mango sauce from another dish. Starters were fantastic. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Price of food and wine was superb.
We return here because it is at the very top of the Key West list! Thanks to all there.
