Menu offered terrific choices. We went with their specialty, Hogfish Snapper - absolutely terrific!
Go, and enjoy the experience
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Where the locals Dine. The hog fish snapper is wonderful and comes with a nice assortment of vegetables. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is what you would expect for Key West. We come every time we visit and have never been disappointed
This was the top recommendation of the boutique hotel where we are staying. This was our first trip to KW so we followed their advice. I had read the reviews and saw a definite pattern of inconsistency. We dined there anyway on the strength of the referral. First, the restaurant was not full and they tried to seat us in a "jammed in' corner table where one could not move their chair away from the table without running into a side wall supporting beam - or even sit square to the table because of it. My wife asked to be moved and was accommodated while I was parking the car. The service was upbeat, polite and attentive for most of the evening. My wife's escargot came and was tepid - she asked if they served it piping hot as we have ALWAYS had it served - anywhere we have dined. The waiter said "No, the chef prepares it this way". We were dumfounded as he didn't ask if she wanted it heated up to her liking. Our soups were delicious and the entrees came promptly. Both her grouper and my hog snapper were delicious. Her vegetables were room temperature - mine were hot. we finished dining & I laid down my credit card & asked for the check when the waiter finally came. He said I'll be right out - stopped to clear another table and went into the kitchen. He finally came out of there, stayed in their service area and forgot to bring our bill. After several minutes I walked up and handed him my card and expressed my displeasure. He was nonchalant about it. I returned to my seat and he brought the bill without a word. I signed the receipt - left a pittance of a tip and left. We walked past 2 other employees who didn't so much as look at us, didn't say a kind word, nothing.
This restaurant has the "bones" to be a Five Star experience - yet they don't put forth enough effort to come even close. We were very disappointed as we are dedicated foodies and know what it takes to prepare gourmet quality meals from scratch. They didn't deliver for us and we won't dine there again.
We started with the garlic-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon (melt in your mouth delicious), then I had the stacked beet/goat cheese salad (excellent) and the Fruits of the Sea with pasta as the main dish. All was presented well and tasted superb. Very friendly and helpful waiter. Also had a bottle of wine -- decent wine list to chose from.
Cafe Sole is definitely one of the most romantic restaurants on Key West. I must say the food was lacking a bit this time. The escargot was cold and did not have much flavor. My hog fish was ok but not as memorable as past dishes there. Everyone is allowed an off night so hoping this was just one of them.
We love Cafe Sole and we eat there often. Last night we had out of town guests and thought it would be a great treat to go there. We understand it is a very busy time of year. But we waited with only water for someone to ask us about wine or offer to explain the menu. Our waiter apologized but many helpers had walked by and never brought us bread or asked if we were okay. The staff who brought our food to the table were rude and careless. And unfortunately the food was not up to par. Very disappointing.
Cafe Sole is definitely one of the finest restaurants in Key West. Its low key and warm vibe and understated decor is truly Key West. Additionally, its menu rivals top restaurants in large cities. This is definitely a place to discover and return- again and again. Absolutely outstanding!
A charming restaurant which calls itself French. It does have French influence but the food is a fusion of cuisines. The hearts of palm was a winner but the arugula was not ( needed a third component like dried cranberries or pine nuts). White anchovies on bruschetta were tart, served with a pesto mayo that made thus app perfect. Shrimp over pasta was well- seasoned and enough for two
We consider Cafe Sole one of our half dozen favorite restaurants in the world. The food, service, and ambience are extraordinary as well as very "Key West" casual. This visit was exactly as we anticipated and we will savor the memory until we return. A must visit in Key West.
Fabulous food, great service, and a friendly atmosphere. I have but one complaint: at the table next to us, one of the women had an annoying 'big voice.' And since the tables are close together, we heard every word. Fortunately, the group left before we finished out meal.
We were recommended to cafe Sole by a resident of Key West. It is walkable from the pier and on quiet area of Key West which was welcomed. We had Jenna as our server, lovely and engaging. My husband had the lobster bisque, snapper, I had the Chef’s specialty Hog snapper which Jenna was knowledgeable on difference of the fishes. The dishes are served with potatoes both sweet and white and fava beans. Has extensive wine list and loved the key lime pie with toasted marshmallow. On leaving we spoke with Owner/Chef and that made the whole night memorable.
This restaurant is a hidden treasure located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The signature hog fish special is one of the best dishes and all of Key West! We always make a point to dining here when in town but were disappointed with our service last night. Our waitress apparently had a problem with the table next to us and the owner at some point came to apologize. We told her we wanted to order some soup and look at the menu. She disappeared and did not return to take our dinner order until after we had finished her soup. We ordered two appetizers and an entrée . They only delivered one of the appetizers (delicious baked artichoke w crab meat) and when we mentioned it to her, she Responded “you didn’t order the lamb chops.” By the time our meal was complete, we were the only people left in the restaurant. The meal was great but I think they need to pay more attention to the service end of things
delicious food especially their specialty"hogfish" we sat in booth that was very cold surrounded by racks of wine ...which I think they used as wine cooling area....I thought given all the marvelous places to eat it was pricey but if you want good food this is nice place..
Our first time to Cafe Sole after several strong recommendations from locals. The atmosphere is romantic and charming. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food is outstanding quality. The hogfish snapper was beautifully prepared and delicious. We could go on and on...ostrich medallions, Floridian lobster tails, saganyaki...
Cafe Sole was a major disappointment. I find it hard to say anything good about it. The food preparation was poor to mediocre. It lacked taste expected in a fine dining restaurant and in some cases was cold. The service was at best OK. Our waiter knew little about the preparation methods and was pretty slow. And the prices were way in excess of the quality. Just about everything was poor. I would just stay away!!!!!
