Food was delicious!!
The cafe was slow when we went but the food was fresh and tasted excellent. The server was outstanding.
Everything was excellent, the service, the food, the desert, the person with me was impressed and I was to. Excellent experience 🙏🙏🙏
Food was delicious. Service was great!
The Salmon was prepared perfectly. Unfortunately, the succotash on which it was served, was inedible. The lima beans were dried out, the corn was limp and tasteless, and it just was a mess. We sat outside. The only other alfresco diners were given a white tablecloth to cover the iron table and offered bread. We were not provided either of those. So, while I was happy to not cook this meal and for the change in environment, the experience fell short.
It was a great evening. The food was well prepared and the ambiance was excellent. The staff was very attentive and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next time.
Wonderful service, delicious food. Tables were spread out, employees properly masked.
There was only one other seating Monday evening when we dined. However, for us that was good, it was possible to have a pleasant conservation in normal levels. We went with traditional menu items, filet and pork shop- which were prepared very much to our satisfaction. Our waitress was attentive, refilling our water glass and checking on our needs. We have dined at Cafe Society before and never had an unpleasant experience.
Wonderful food served by an attentive staff in a warm, low-key space.
I have been going to Cafe Society two to four times a month for 18 years. It has always been excellent in all aspects for a quiet business lunch or dinner.
the duck was tough and the sea bass with the jalapeno grits need something to pair down the spicy. the beet salad was very good
We came for our 10th wedding anniversary. We were immediately greeted by the host with a “happy anniversary”. The ambiance was nice, dimly lit and comfortable. I ordered seafood bisque and my husband got Cesar salad to start. They were both good. He ordered the 16 oz steak with garlic mashed potatoes and i ordered the duck with sweet potato gnocchi and a lobster tail on the side. I also ordered a few drinks. The appetizers came out quickly. My husband & i were talking to each other & didn’t realize how much time had gone by. After my second drink, the server asked if i wanted another. I said no, I’ll wait for my food. He says, “well at this point you’re only paying for drinks. Your meal has been compensated.” We didn’t understand why until he mentioned the food was taking too long to come out because some had been burned, forgotten, and had to be prepared again. I thought it was great that they went ahead and took care of this without us having to complain or covering up their mistake. When we did get our food, my husband very much enjoyed his steak but his mashed potatoes were cold. My duck was very nicely cooked but bland in taste. We shared the brandy Alexander for dessert.
Our server was great. We might return again but only because of the great customer service. Hopefully our food will be better the second time.
Good service and food
Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife Friday...the 4-course meal was amazing and the service was spot on!
It is interesting to sit down in a restaurant and hear the chef complaining about filling orders in a loud and vulgar manner. The waiter tried his best but it was his first week.
We had smoked gouda mac, steak and asparagus, and the bone-in chop and a baked sweet potato. We also had a bottle of Bordeaux. The best part of this meal was the sweet potato and the Bordeaux.
I think they must be having financial troubles. The wine I ordered, they were out of. The appetizer I ordered, they were out of. The entre I ordered, they were out of. Comical if not true. Restaurant was virtually empty, I had to search for someone to seat us. I should have known better when there were so many available time slots. Only consolation was the Hailbut was very good.
Early Valentines dinner
We are new to Memphis and we like trying new restaurants. This restaurant has potential; great location and a well-rounded menu. However, the bar attached to the restaurant allows smoking and you can smell it inside the restaurant. Also, there's carpet in the restaurant which I'm sure is why there's a lingering smell. Also, the lighting is horrendous. Very bright light for dinner is so unappetizing. Sorry Cafe Society, we will not be back.
First time visit but will definitely be back. Great food and service.
This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back! The food was delicious and the service was wonderful! They have some music playing in the background but still quiet enough to hold a normal conversation.
We have been many times to Cafe Society but this visit was not up to their usual standards. Nothing was seasoned well. Usually the shrimp with horseradish has a bit to it, but was bland. Even the main courses needed salt and I had orzo that should be salted when cooking. Forgot to bring out drawn butter with lobster. Bread that came with appetizer was stale. Bread with meal was good but cold. We had Italian coffee with Baileys and Kalua but was skimpy on liquor. Can't recommend again until they get their act back together.
It was a lovely time.
If this was a meal at someones home it would have been very good. With the competition that exists in Memphis, the flavors were just not exceptional in any way. The cocktails were in tiny glasses and less than half full. The prices were top shelf. We hadn't been there in a while and it will be a while before we'll be back.
Everything was very good. The hostess was a bit surly and didn’t smile. The food was wonderful. My only suggestion is the Gouda Mac and cheese lacked flavor and was very dry, needed more cheese sauce
There was something off from the start. We entered and the hostess was not welcoming. We considered leaving at that point - follow your instincts. The appetizer was fine. The entrees were worse than what we would make at home. The server apologized for the food and took one of the meals off. I sent the part of the other meal back. My salmon was badly overcooked and the sauces were cold and poorly made. The veal piccata had no piccata and the pasta was a solid glob. This meal was no where near good or worth the $80 that was spent.
We were very disappointed. Steaks were cold, tough and gristly. Salmon was hot and delicious, however. This used to be a fine establishment, but I can’t see myself going back, unfortunately.
1st, let me start off by saying that I used to work as a server in the restaurant industry in Memphis at multiple fine dining restaurants. With that said, the service the other night, Thursday, was horrible. The restaurant was not busy so I am not sure what the issue was. Our server was not very knowledgeable about the menu. In addition, she was not very attentive to our table to the point where myself and another guest waited for several minutes for our EMPTY drink glasses to be refilled. When they were filled, they were filled by another server. Further, we ordered dessert and after waiting 15 minutes and never receiving it, we had to "find" our server to let her know that we needed to leave because we had Theatre tickets. We ended up getting the desserts "to go". As far as the food, it was good but nothing special. Overall, for a fine dining restaurant, this experience left a lot to be desired.
First time at this restaurant, dinner for 6 before a show at the Orpheum. We really enjoyed it! It was quaint, quiet, cozy, pretty grey striped napkins, pretty table, great tasting food! We all got something different and our favorites as a group were the scallops, the mac & cheese, and the brussels sprouts were simply outstanding! Great service too! It's a little bit pricey for the amount of food but worth it for the quality and atmosphere. Everything was flavorful and delicious. I would recommend it for sure!
My friends and I were eating here before an event downtown. We were seated next to the party room before a party came in. The noise level was not onerous but it would have been great to sit somewhere else due to traffic and noise throughout our meal.
Food and service were great.
Go there all the time. Consistently good
Great food, but space was almost too quiet, making it lack some energy.
The food was great, even though some items were not available. It was Thanksgiving and our time was 6:30, so this was not really a problem for me. The waitress was outstanding. I would go there again.
We didn’t complain about the charcuterie, but should have. We were served cold cuts and cheese as if they came from the supermarket. We truly couldn’t believe how bad it was. The pear salad was fine.
Place is rather run down. Very small menu. Food very ordinary for the price.
Had Salmon over veggies in a broth. It was tender, delicious, fish cooked perfectly. Be sure to get a basket of fresh hot bread to sop up the goodness!
Upon entering the restaurant, one is assailed by cigarette/cigar odors emanating from the attached bar. Even in the dining area, the smokey smell persists making it difficult to enjoy the dining experience. The bar should be non-smoking or detached entirely from the restaurant (ie. no door opening to common restrooms to allow smoke into the restaurant area).
Best corn chowder ever.
It must have been an off night (Sunday). We were the only ones there. The service was courteous but slow and incomplete. The food was excellent, but it took a long time to arrive. Bread was not offered at all and when we asked for it we were brought cold bread right out of the refrigerator. Historically, this has been an excellent restaurant, and our family has celebrated many events there, so I hope our experience will be better next time.
Waitress very pleasant. Quiet and food was excellent!
Our server Rebecca was so gracious and delightful. She offered suggestions and recommendations for our meal and even gave us suggestions on other places to try while we were in Memphis. The food was fabulous and the wine selections were great. Will definitely go back if we’re ever in Memphis again.
