Located in the heart of the beautiful Evergreen Historic District in Midtown Memphis, Café Society is affectionately known to many Memphians as simply "Café" and continues to be a favorite of many of its midtown neighbors.
Always great food and service. It’s so nice when your server remembers you!
We always went to this restaurant when we visited Memphis, and it was one of our favorite restaurants. The restaurant was really off this time, however. The service was incredibly slow. The tomatoes in the salad were old. The salmon was not fresh and overcooked. The vegetables were greasy and the mac and cheese had no flavor. I don't know if there was a new chef, or because it was a Sunday. We were disappointed, as we have frequented this restaurant for 10 years, and it was always excellent before.
As always, the food and the service were wonderful! Great job!!
Food was good although new menus with grill items is unimaginative. Had a late dinner at 8:30 on a Friday and hardly anyone was in the restaurant. Seems to be a restaurant for the older set. Atmosphere needs updating. Not a bad place but would love to see a redo of the menu and decor.
The floor and ceiling are in need to updates. Our server was quite slow. The food was just okay. I would expect better for the price. My husband and I ordered steak and didn’t think it tasted very good or was prepared well.
Watermelon salad — excellent!!! Fish special outstanding!!
I ordered a large salad with salmon. They included some slimy greens that they didn’t pick out. No espresso or cappuccino. And the little bowl of onion soup had only shredded cheese on top, but the soup itself was delicious. Yet, I had a very pleasant time and enjoyed a leisurely lunch with a business colleague. I have been there before, and the food was lovely.
We go the Cafe Society often. Always good service and food. Need to add the mushroom spinach risotto we had once to the regular menu....
The food was excellent. We were on the way to the theater. Great start to the evening.
We had a lovely dinner as always, but my chicken was not so good. Seemed a little like a rotisserie chicken that had been out for a while...kind of shriveled up and dry. The green goddess sauce was delicious, though. We’ll definitely return, but this time was a little disappointing.
Bread just yeast roll
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. Loved the watermelon salad.
Incredible food and service. The special was scrumptious, as were many of the other items on the list. Don't miss dessert!
Always good food and excellent service. The watermelon salad is outstanding
We had a wonderful dinning experience at cafe society. The food and it's presentation are top of the line. We met the owner Colin Kent and also his chef John. Charming people with great culinary talent. We wish them continued success
Outstanding meal & service
I love the oysters, and the atmosphere.
It is so good, we came back the next week.
We could not have asked for a better Anniversary experience; a truly lovely evening!! :-)
Vegetable soup was not hearty, caprese salad’s mozzarella was little balls, shrimp “wrapped in bacon” with horseradish sauce was swimming in sauce & didn’t notice the bacon.
The food was sublime and the service excellent. It was a lovely pre-theater dining experience. The caprese salad was probably the best I've ever had, as was the creme brulee. Cafe Society is a true Midtown gem.
The tenderloin is fantastic. Also our server remembered that we do not eat carbs and helped us put together a wonderful meal. We appreciate the folks in the kitchen who are willing to make substitutions to accommodate us.
I have loved Cafe Society for many years. The prefixed menu was ok but not great selection of different items. Food came out cold multiple times. Was not happy this time with the food. Service was great.
We went for mother’s day brunch (so special prix fixe menu) and we’re really impressed. Charming little space. We had reserved outdoor seating but was too chilly, and they were able to accommodate us inside. Only flaw in food was over-lavendered creme brûlée, but everything else flavorful, beautifully presented, and reasonable price for what was received. Portions neither meager, nor overfilling. Very happy with our experience.
Chris W., our server, was wonderful. Our guests from Switzerland said their filets were cooked perfectly. My lamb chops and my husband’s fish were both perfect. Though busy, the conversation was easy without a lot of ambient noise. The reservation making was also accurate and easy.
Disappointing overpriced meal. The fish special had no flavor and was not worth anywhere close to the price. Service was very friendly but slow.
First night of new menu.
Don’t worry many of your favorites still there (shrimp in creamed horseradish sauce for one)...
Watermelon Salad was delightful.
Never disappoints .
Cafe Society is equally quaint and delicious. It is as much a neighborhood destination, where the entire staff takes the time to get to know their patrons, as it is a gem for our city. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the environment, whether in the restaurant, on the patio or in the bar, is always interesting. While we most often dine in the bar, we opted for Easter Brunch outside. Every bite, from the deviled eggs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and avocado toast, to the smoked pork butt, fruit tart and creme brulee, was delicious. It would be impossible to pick a favorite. Leslie, the restaurant manager, and Molly, our server, attended to every detail as you would for a family member or treasured friend. We typically dine in the bar because you have the option of the bar menu or the dinner menu, plus you have personal service from Miles, the resident mixologist/friend. He always remembers your preferences and his suggestions are always spot-on. We love Cafe Society and Easter demonstrated another reason why.
Food was excellent and the service was very good. Had an enjoyable dinner.
HAVING TAKEN MY WIFE THERE ON OUR FIRST DATE ALMOST 25 YEARS AGO, WE RECENTLY WENT BACK AFTER A NINE YEAR HIATUS....(WE LIVE IN CO!) . WHAT A GREAT TREAT! FOOD WAS THE BEST, EVEN BETTER THAN I REMEMBER AND THE WAITER WAS SIMPLY A MASTER AT EVERYTHING....QUIET ON A WED. NIGHT, MY VEAL WAS SIMPLY AS GOOD AS IT GETS...SO WONDERFUL TO SEE THIS RESTAURANT DOING SO WELL AFTER SO MANY YEARS!
Food was not special, service was not good. Wrong orders were delivered. Promised sides, as it turned out, actually did not come with the order. But we didn’t find that out until the order was delivered, so no opportunity to modify the order. This was once my favorite restaurant in Memphis. Going there now just makes me sad.
Seafood Bisque, Caesar salad, Bacon-wrapped shrimp, and Oysters Maurice are always delightful!
Tried the Brussel sprouts for lunch. It’s an appetizer on menu, but delicious and plenty. Healthy option for lunch.
The food was very good, as we expected it would be. The service was outstanding.
We selected our favorite things from the menu...Seafood bisque, Caesar Salad, Bacon-Wrapped shrimp, and Oysters Maurice! Yum!
Nice and quiet, wonderful atmosphere with light music, great service, excellent food. What more could you ask for? Perfect for decompressing from a busy week over great food and drinks and small talk. Yes, you can talk to each other without shouting and with light music in the back ground.
I was hoping to go to a French restaurant. Nobody speaks French. The menu has some French food, but mostly American food. The portions are small and the prices big. The Oyster were good, the sauce and the goat cheese too, but the Chicken Picatta had no seasoning and the salmon caused me stomach problems and it was not fresh.
Very nice restaurant. A bit pricey but I would go again for a nice evening out.
We always go because their Caesar Salad. We feel it is the best we've ever had!!! Our waiter recommended their Wagu steak and it was absolutely delicious and the flavor amazing.
Cafe Society is a great neighborhood restaurant.
I have not been to Cafe Society in a few years. Decided to take a friend for her birthday. The layout of the restaurant has changed. The really nice bar is now separated from the rest of the place. The open space is now segmented, which I preferred the more open floor plan. There literally were two other tables when we arrived on a Saturday night at 8:00 pm. There was no music or ambiance. In fact it felt more like a holiday inn restaurant rather than a high end french restaurant. The service was OK and the food was good. I was just very disappointed that the entire experience was not warm but rather cold and detached. When you can hear the wait staff busing the tables and you feel its time to go, while you're waiting for dessert, it's not exactly what we signed up for. As we walked out past what used to be a sophisticated bar, we saw a table of folks in there watching March Madness. The impression was that it was a sports bar. Again, that's fine...but not a fine dining experience.
