Located in the heart of the beautiful Evergreen Historic District in Midtown Memphis, Café Society is affectionately known to many Memphians as simply Cafe and continues to be a favorite of many of its midtown neighbors.
Our server Rebecca was so gracious and delightful. She offered suggestions and recommendations for our meal and even gave us suggestions on other places to try while we were in Memphis. The food was fabulous and the wine selections were great. Will definitely go back if we’re ever in Memphis again.
When I pay $250 for three people at dinner I expect better than we received. We have eaten there 30 plus times over the years and never had a bad experience. The charcuterie appetizer plate was amazing. The salads were good. When our meals finally arrived our food was barely warm. My wife and I had "salt encrusted" baked potatoes with our entrees that had no salt on them whatever and they were cold as was my steak. I sat, having to wait as my wife and son ate while my meal was stuck in the micro wave. My son had the Veal Piccata and it had been sitting so long that the sauce had "broken." I think our meals sat for a while before we were served. This was our birthday dinner. I still love the place but we were very unhappy with our experience. Memphis has better choices.
the caesar salad seemed to be soaked in dressing. To much for my taste.
I was at this restaurant 15-16 years ago. It had a wonderful, classy atmosphere with a grand piano and someone playing during dinner. This time a walked into a different door and the place smelled overwhelmingly of smoke do to their bar area and the place was dead. I was so disappointed.
The food was pretty good and the wait staff was excellent. They did everything they could to make our dinner enjoyable but the lack of ambience made it disappointing. It made me sad because I used to love how elegant this place was
This place has passed the test of time well, but I was disappointed, after not having been there in years, to find a hardly French AT ALL menu😳
No escargot, no paté, no confit de canard, etc.....
our meal was excellent, but still.....
I had not been to Cafe Society for dinner in awhile but after having a really nice lunch there decided to go for dinner. It's under new ownership with a new chef and the service and food were excellent. The crabmeat croquettes and watermelon salad were superb!
Service was excellent - very friendly and accommodating for our needs. The room is kind of drab and could use some spiffing up to be more inviting. The food was excellent! Thanks!
Cafe Society restaurant is a great place to meet for a meeting . It is centrally located and has awesome food. The service is on point and the value is accommodating.
We have been to Cafe Society a couple of years ago. The food was good then. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case.
My fish was just so-so & the baked potato was old. My husband’s food (crab croquettes) was over cooked.
However, our server did a good job.
I doubt that we will return.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Memphis.
Overall, great experience. Drinks, food, and service was above standard
Always great food and service. It’s so nice when your server remembers you!
We always went to this restaurant when we visited Memphis, and it was one of our favorite restaurants. The restaurant was really off this time, however. The service was incredibly slow. The tomatoes in the salad were old. The salmon was not fresh and overcooked. The vegetables were greasy and the mac and cheese had no flavor. I don't know if there was a new chef, or because it was a Sunday. We were disappointed, as we have frequented this restaurant for 10 years, and it was always excellent before.
As always, the food and the service were wonderful! Great job!!
Food was good although new menus with grill items is unimaginative. Had a late dinner at 8:30 on a Friday and hardly anyone was in the restaurant. Seems to be a restaurant for the older set. Atmosphere needs updating. Not a bad place but would love to see a redo of the menu and decor.
The floor and ceiling are in need to updates. Our server was quite slow. The food was just okay. I would expect better for the price. My husband and I ordered steak and didn’t think it tasted very good or was prepared well.
Watermelon salad — excellent!!! Fish special outstanding!!
I ordered a large salad with salmon. They included some slimy greens that they didn’t pick out. No espresso or cappuccino. And the little bowl of onion soup had only shredded cheese on top, but the soup itself was delicious. Yet, I had a very pleasant time and enjoyed a leisurely lunch with a business colleague. I have been there before, and the food was lovely.
We go the Cafe Society often. Always good service and food. Need to add the mushroom spinach risotto we had once to the regular menu....
The food was excellent. We were on the way to the theater. Great start to the evening.
We had a lovely dinner as always, but my chicken was not so good. Seemed a little like a rotisserie chicken that had been out for a while...kind of shriveled up and dry. The green goddess sauce was delicious, though. We’ll definitely return, but this time was a little disappointing.
Bread just yeast roll
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. Loved the watermelon salad.
Incredible food and service. The special was scrumptious, as were many of the other items on the list. Don't miss dessert!
Always good food and excellent service. The watermelon salad is outstanding
We had a wonderful dinning experience at cafe society. The food and it's presentation are top of the line. We met the owner Colin Kent and also his chef John. Charming people with great culinary talent. We wish them continued success
Outstanding meal & service
I love the oysters, and the atmosphere.
It is so good, we came back the next week.
We could not have asked for a better Anniversary experience; a truly lovely evening!! :-)
Vegetable soup was not hearty, caprese salad’s mozzarella was little balls, shrimp “wrapped in bacon” with horseradish sauce was swimming in sauce & didn’t notice the bacon.
The food was sublime and the service excellent. It was a lovely pre-theater dining experience. The caprese salad was probably the best I've ever had, as was the creme brulee. Cafe Society is a true Midtown gem.
The tenderloin is fantastic. Also our server remembered that we do not eat carbs and helped us put together a wonderful meal. We appreciate the folks in the kitchen who are willing to make substitutions to accommodate us.
I have loved Cafe Society for many years. The prefixed menu was ok but not great selection of different items. Food came out cold multiple times. Was not happy this time with the food. Service was great.
We went for mother’s day brunch (so special prix fixe menu) and we’re really impressed. Charming little space. We had reserved outdoor seating but was too chilly, and they were able to accommodate us inside. Only flaw in food was over-lavendered creme brûlée, but everything else flavorful, beautifully presented, and reasonable price for what was received. Portions neither meager, nor overfilling. Very happy with our experience.
Chris W., our server, was wonderful. Our guests from Switzerland said their filets were cooked perfectly. My lamb chops and my husband’s fish were both perfect. Though busy, the conversation was easy without a lot of ambient noise. The reservation making was also accurate and easy.
Disappointing overpriced meal. The fish special had no flavor and was not worth anywhere close to the price. Service was very friendly but slow.
First night of new menu.
Don’t worry many of your favorites still there (shrimp in creamed horseradish sauce for one)...
Watermelon Salad was delightful.
Never disappoints .
Cafe Society is equally quaint and delicious. It is as much a neighborhood destination, where the entire staff takes the time to get to know their patrons, as it is a gem for our city. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the environment, whether in the restaurant, on the patio or in the bar, is always interesting. While we most often dine in the bar, we opted for Easter Brunch outside. Every bite, from the deviled eggs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and avocado toast, to the smoked pork butt, fruit tart and creme brulee, was delicious. It would be impossible to pick a favorite. Leslie, the restaurant manager, and Molly, our server, attended to every detail as you would for a family member or treasured friend. We typically dine in the bar because you have the option of the bar menu or the dinner menu, plus you have personal service from Miles, the resident mixologist/friend. He always remembers your preferences and his suggestions are always spot-on. We love Cafe Society and Easter demonstrated another reason why.
Food was excellent and the service was very good. Had an enjoyable dinner.
