Located in the heart of the beautiful Evergreen Historic District in Midtown Memphis, Café Society features innovative preparations of fresh seafood, veal, lamb and beef along with an extensive wine list for your dining pleasure. With its casual dining and bistro atmosphere, Café Society is affectionately known to many Memphians as simply "Café" and continues to be a favorite of many of its midtown neighbors.
I am a big fan of Café Society. The food came out quite slow but worth the wait. Our server was inexperienced as I did not get the service I have in the past which has been stellar. I will be back.
Perfect night out with friends! Elegant but not too stuffy. Very quiet and well suited for a large gathering of course friends or family. The food was fabulous!
We were happily surprised with the quality and exceptional entrees. Cafe Society had been long forgotten but not anymore. We chose this restaurant because it was down the street from Evergreen theater. Next time we will choose this restaurant for the amazing food. Great job!
We had a great time at Café Society. The food was amazing, especially the dessert.
Eggplant appetizer big enough to share.
Rack of lamb perfectly executed.
Excellent food and service. Will definitely dine here again. The decor could use updating.
This was a New Year’s Eve to remember! A storm had knocked out power earlier that day, but the chef & staff never missed a beat. We had the French onion soup, which one member of our party stated was the best he had ever eaten, and the BLT salad to start. The entrees were just as delicious - Chicken Paillard, Veal Piccata, & Scallops Raito. We finished our meal with the Creme Brûlée. We amplified the candlelight with the flashlight app on our phones to choose wine, entrees, admire the presentation, and help my husband enjoy the mussels in his dish. Dinner was executed flawlessly and was enjoyed by all. If we had not been dIning totally by candlelight, with the occasional electronic assist, we would never have known the kitchen was operating in a challenging environment.
We went on NYE the power was out, but they’d called ahead to let us know so no surprise. Great decision to go without power, they had the whole place candle lit. The food was great. It felt like our server was a little overwhelmed working in the dark, but she was pleasant. Turned into a fun dinner experience, looking forward to getting back here with the lights on.
It was New years Eve and the restaurant had lost power due to a storm. We ate dinner by candlelight and the food was delicious. It was a unique experience !
Great ambience and great service!
I bought a groupon for $50, for a special event while my daughter was in town. The restaurant was empty, no atmosphere, and the foyer stank of smoke. The smoke smell drifted into the restaurant and turned me off of eating the food I’d ordered. I went outside to get fresh air, and once again it smelled of smoke outside the door.
When the check came, I was told that Groupon added an 18% service charge, even though there were only three of us, which wiped out all of the saving I made by buying the Groupon. Total cost was $75 for one cup of bisque, 2 glasses of wine, 1 Caesar salad, 1 chicken dish and 5 oysters.
The restaurant was lovely, and the service was excellent. My favorite dishes were the eggplant and goat cheese roulade and the scallops. Wonderful meal and experience!
My son had his 14th birthday there and it was perfect. My kids have (real) severe allergies, and they went above and beyond to check our orders for ingredients (which we know is annoying). Super fun and good wine list, too. We've been there multiple times and consistetly excellent.
Service slowwwwww,... but food and drinks were good . Don’t come in a hurry ,..
It was awesome! Just Saturday night with friends made better by our meal.
We have been coming to Cafe Society for many years and the food has been okay. My husband and I ordered the Veal Piccata and it was so tough we could not eat even one bite. I had been there in the summer and had ordered a Brandy Alexander and it was one of the best I had ever had. I decided that a good Brandy Alexander would offset the bad food. I was wrong, they brought out a scoop of ice cream with a little brandy to pour over it. This will be our last trip to Cafe Society.
Wonderful as usual.
A must do little gem in midtown!
Food was fantastic and service was awesome. Can’t wait to go back for more seafood bisque and salmon
Have always loved this place and today was just wonderful!
We haven't been there in several years due to all the new great restaurants in Memphis. A group of good friends decided to go to dinner and I suggested going there. It was fantastic. The food and service were excellent. I assure you we will be back soon.
Another great meal at Cafe Society. This is a gem of a restaurant. Great beef, salmon, and veal and the best Creme Brûlée in Memphis.
The blt salad had old brown lettuce on it. Food was average. Service was excellent
We love it. We went on a Rainy Sunday night for anniversary. There was literally no other diners there while we ate. Not the normal business. It was a bit awkward. The food was still great.
Cafe Society is one of my favorite restaurants. When we make reservations our table is always ready & set when we arrive. Good menu selections and delicious. A soothing and comfortable ambience. A restaurant we will visit often.
I took my wife there for date night before we went to see a play at Playhouse on the Square. The food and service were outstanding. The menu can be viewed on their website.
Overall, the experience was very good, with a great atmosphere and tasty food. However, the entrees were a bit overpriced. I would definitely come for the appetizers again.
Will always be a favorite of ours here in Memphis.
We’ve dined all over Memphis during our 11 months living here and this was a meal that is forgettable. I’m not going to say it was bad, it just wasn’t great.
Food was exceptional. Great value.
We enjoyed the service, quiet atmosphere, and relaxed feeling.
Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. Seafood is fresh and tasty.
Always a great meal at Cafe Society. We've been coming here for years and Chef keeps the menu fresh. His steaks are the best in the city!
We were in town just for one night, and we were happy we found this place. The service and food were both wonderful.
Had dinner with co-worker and new friends. We had a dinner early Sunday night. Food was amazing! I thought it was more casual but it was pretty fancy inside. I should have dressed up little bit more.
This restaurant would be one of my favorite restaurant in Memphis area. I will definitely visit again.
As always, it was a perfect evening with wonderful food, drinks, and excellent service. A true neighborhood gem.
One of my favorite spots!
Chose this restaurant from local reviews and was not disappointed.Friendly attentive staff, pleasant surroundings with local artists displayed on walls.Great cocktail list and superb food cooked to perfection.French influenced menu that exemplifies a typical Frech neighbourhood bistro. If we had the time we would have gone back the following night.Wish we had this in our neighbourhood ( Australia ).
Drinks, appetizers, Filet Minion for four amazing! Oberon wine superb. Will be back the next time we are in town.
The food was amazing! I had the scallop special and my husband had chicken from the menu, both were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. The basket of bread was nothing to brag about, not homemade. The butter was in a glob on a large plate, not too appealing. The service was ok, our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable about the menu, but she was overwhelmed with too many tables and not able to be attentive. I was surprised to see the young hostess in jeans, sneakers, and a V-neck T-shirt. She sat on a stool and looked at her phone when no customers were around. The Decor could be SO much nicer! The chairs were 1980s aluminum chairs, something you would see in a pizzeria. The carpet looks old and worn and the walls had some artwork, local I think, which is great to see, but not arranged well. The salt shaker on our table had dead bugs in it. If it weren’t for the amazing food we probably will never return.
This was our second visit and we truly enjoyed our choices. Starting with cocktails that were over the top with a Charcuterie plate and Goat Cheese Croquette with balsamic macerated cherries...amazing! We split a Café Caesar and the Eye of Ribeye with the best Pommes champvallon that I believe I have ever tasted, we substituted roasted cauliflower for the shaved Brussels, roasted shallot, red wine sauce which was so fresh. Last but not least, we finished with the Lemon Almond Gateau
with blackberry compote & vanilla gelato that our server, Carla recommended. Everything from the time we walked in until we were the last to leave was spot on! Thank you Cafe Society & Carla for a wonderful evening!
