Located in the heart of the beautiful Evergreen Historic District in Midtown Memphis, Café Society is affectionately known to many Memphians as simply "Café" and continues to be a favorite of many of its midtown neighbors.
Vegetable soup was not hearty, caprese salad’s mozzarella was little balls, shrimp “wrapped in bacon” with horseradish sauce was swimming in sauce & didn’t notice the bacon.
The food was sublime and the service excellent. It was a lovely pre-theater dining experience. The caprese salad was probably the best I've ever had, as was the creme brulee. Cafe Society is a true Midtown gem.
The tenderloin is fantastic. Also our server remembered that we do not eat carbs and helped us put together a wonderful meal. We appreciate the folks in the kitchen who are willing to make substitutions to accommodate us.
I have loved Cafe Society for many years. The prefixed menu was ok but not great selection of different items. Food came out cold multiple times. Was not happy this time with the food. Service was great.
We went for mother’s day brunch (so special prix fixe menu) and we’re really impressed. Charming little space. We had reserved outdoor seating but was too chilly, and they were able to accommodate us inside. Only flaw in food was over-lavendered creme brûlée, but everything else flavorful, beautifully presented, and reasonable price for what was received. Portions neither meager, nor overfilling. Very happy with our experience.
Chris W., our server, was wonderful. Our guests from Switzerland said their filets were cooked perfectly. My lamb chops and my husband’s fish were both perfect. Though busy, the conversation was easy without a lot of ambient noise. The reservation making was also accurate and easy.
Disappointing overpriced meal. The fish special had no flavor and was not worth anywhere close to the price. Service was very friendly but slow.
First night of new menu.
Don’t worry many of your favorites still there (shrimp in creamed horseradish sauce for one)...
Watermelon Salad was delightful.
Never disappoints .
Cafe Society is equally quaint and delicious. It is as much a neighborhood destination, where the entire staff takes the time to get to know their patrons, as it is a gem for our city. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the environment, whether in the restaurant, on the patio or in the bar, is always interesting. While we most often dine in the bar, we opted for Easter Brunch outside. Every bite, from the deviled eggs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and avocado toast, to the smoked pork butt, fruit tart and creme brulee, was delicious. It would be impossible to pick a favorite. Leslie, the restaurant manager, and Molly, our server, attended to every detail as you would for a family member or treasured friend. We typically dine in the bar because you have the option of the bar menu or the dinner menu, plus you have personal service from Miles, the resident mixologist/friend. He always remembers your preferences and his suggestions are always spot-on. We love Cafe Society and Easter demonstrated another reason why.
Food was excellent and the service was very good. Had an enjoyable dinner.
HAVING TAKEN MY WIFE THERE ON OUR FIRST DATE ALMOST 25 YEARS AGO, WE RECENTLY WENT BACK AFTER A NINE YEAR HIATUS....(WE LIVE IN CO!) . WHAT A GREAT TREAT! FOOD WAS THE BEST, EVEN BETTER THAN I REMEMBER AND THE WAITER WAS SIMPLY A MASTER AT EVERYTHING....QUIET ON A WED. NIGHT, MY VEAL WAS SIMPLY AS GOOD AS IT GETS...SO WONDERFUL TO SEE THIS RESTAURANT DOING SO WELL AFTER SO MANY YEARS!
Food was not special, service was not good. Wrong orders were delivered. Promised sides, as it turned out, actually did not come with the order. But we didn’t find that out until the order was delivered, so no opportunity to modify the order. This was once my favorite restaurant in Memphis. Going there now just makes me sad.
Seafood Bisque, Caesar salad, Bacon-wrapped shrimp, and Oysters Maurice are always delightful!
Tried the Brussel sprouts for lunch. It’s an appetizer on menu, but delicious and plenty. Healthy option for lunch.
The food was very good, as we expected it would be. The service was outstanding.
We selected our favorite things from the menu...Seafood bisque, Caesar Salad, Bacon-Wrapped shrimp, and Oysters Maurice! Yum!
Nice and quiet, wonderful atmosphere with light music, great service, excellent food. What more could you ask for? Perfect for decompressing from a busy week over great food and drinks and small talk. Yes, you can talk to each other without shouting and with light music in the back ground.
I was hoping to go to a French restaurant. Nobody speaks French. The menu has some French food, but mostly American food. The portions are small and the prices big. The Oyster were good, the sauce and the goat cheese too, but the Chicken Picatta had no seasoning and the salmon caused me stomach problems and it was not fresh.
Very nice restaurant. A bit pricey but I would go again for a nice evening out.
We always go because their Caesar Salad. We feel it is the best we've ever had!!! Our waiter recommended their Wagu steak and it was absolutely delicious and the flavor amazing.
Cafe Society is a great neighborhood restaurant.
I have not been to Cafe Society in a few years. Decided to take a friend for her birthday. The layout of the restaurant has changed. The really nice bar is now separated from the rest of the place. The open space is now segmented, which I preferred the more open floor plan. There literally were two other tables when we arrived on a Saturday night at 8:00 pm. There was no music or ambiance. In fact it felt more like a holiday inn restaurant rather than a high end french restaurant. The service was OK and the food was good. I was just very disappointed that the entire experience was not warm but rather cold and detached. When you can hear the wait staff busing the tables and you feel its time to go, while you're waiting for dessert, it's not exactly what we signed up for. As we walked out past what used to be a sophisticated bar, we saw a table of folks in there watching March Madness. The impression was that it was a sports bar. Again, that's fine...but not a fine dining experience.
We had to ask for everything. Service was awful. None of us in the 8 person party will be back.
I have been going to this restaurant for more than 16 years. Most often for lunch and I have always enjoyed outstanding service and very good food. I believe that my guests would also say that they have been very happy with the people, service and good at Cafe Society.
Putting 20% service charge for party of 3... RIDICULOUS!!!
I really have nothing much to say. It was an uneventful dining experience. Nothing to brag about except maybe the appetizer (oysters) was good and dessert was just okay—said “...berries” and the creme brûlée had one strawberry. My husvand at least liked the ribeye and the fries. I had something salmon and the salmon was very bland. It didn’t have any flavor whatsoever. Presentation was good, but again, very bland. Service was blahhhh. The lady that waited on us did just that...nothing special. I’ll give a two stars⭐️⭐️ 😬😩
Great neighborhood treasure! Awesome service, incredible food and wonderful atmosphere.
Getting ready to make another reservation when this survey popped up. Perfect place for business meetings. Elegant, quiet with few distractions and all the while you can anticipate scrumptious food! I am a fan!
The food was really good and the wait staff was so nice. We will definitely be back!
We all Enjoyed our lunch at the Café Society. The food and the service were excellent. It is nice to go to a restaurant where the noise level is low. We definitely will return.
Great service and food. Ideal valentine place.
Never disappointing! Always delicious and interesting!
Cafe Society never disappoints. The food, service and atmosphere are always first rate. The seafood bisque has been spectacular for many years.
Excellent Valentine's Day dinner experience. Ordered from the edited regular menu rather than the special menu and enjoyed everything. First time there in probably 2 years and it was distinctly improved.
Café Society is one of our favorite restaurants for date night. The ambiance is relaxing but upscale. The meal prices are fair and the staff extremely courteous and knowledgeable.
This evening The Chef’s special sea bass entrée was great. However, the service this time was slow and wait time between courses from the server was a little excessive from past dining experiences.
Overall- great meal and service Disappointing. Not our typical experience at Café Society.
It was a great evening. We really enjoyed our dinner.
Tobacco smell is strong from bar. Otherwise everything was was great.
As always - awesome food, great choices, and superb service. My go to place !
The artwork and the ambiance and the wait staff were impeccable. The food was not up to my expectation. I have had better french onion soup at OUTBACK, and I have had better Caesar salad at many places. I would eat there again next time I visit the city, but I would try something else on the menu.
I am a big fan of Café Society. The food came out quite slow but worth the wait. Our server was inexperienced as I did not get the service I have in the past which has been stellar. I will be back.
