Cafe Sierra at Hilton Universal City Ratings and Reviews
The Sunday brunch was a bit pricey, but had a big selection of good food and desserts. The placement of the carving station outside of the dining area was a little weird, but the prime rib was excellent. The live band was pleasant to listen to while eating. The service at other tables seemed good at other tables, but my waiter was not very good.
Stayed at the hotel for a couple of days and each time the same dish was prepped differently. Kids ordered Shirley Temples, no cherries. I ordered a Bloody Mary, no garnish at all. Ordered fries along with my sandwich and they were greasy, not crisp and I had basically the ends of the potatoes in tiny slivers, more like shredded potatoes, not fries. Horrible experience. Adjacent bar has the same menu and the service and ironically the same food was better. Go figure!
Charged $45 for the buffet. Very disappointed with their food selection. There may be 20 items max on the menu. We are talking about a buffet at the Hilton. Didn't think they prepared enough food either. The guy in charge of the taco/Mongolian BBQ station didn't even know how to cook. Definitely would not go again.
Universal Hilton has changed and NOT for the better, I have been having brunch and recommending the Universal Hilton for many years (20) and I won't be doing so again. The remodel has made the selections fewer, and the seating far less comfortable and inviting. Many favorites are gone now. I cannot imagine what they added to make this worth $65 per adult ( Holiday Flair) for New Years Brunch. The email and poster said they began at 10:30, food wasn't ready until 11:20... we were seated at a very dirty table, and the floors were still littered with sausage links, napkins, and various breakfast refuse ...
The shining star? ALLEN, our server made this all more palatable. Thank goodness they hired Allen who was a very attentive server and a bright spot in very disappointing and expensive morning.
This reservation was cancelled within the time frame required by OT’s policy. Also, tried for an hour to do so without success for a reservation for another restaurant booked through OT…and sent a letter about it. Cancelled that reservation finally by personally going to the restaurant to avoid the penalty charges. Very reluctant to use OT again. And, if a charge shows up on my credit card, will be even more annoyed, if that is possible.
The remodeled dining room and food areas are an improvement over the previous facility. Service has never been very good here. It’s a lot of old timers who really are just phoning it in but we expected that. We keep returning for the seafood and the proximity to Universal.
I had been to Cafe Sierra at least three times in the past few years. However the quality of the food especially the desserts section has gotten worse each time. Most entrees tasted salty, cold and/or not fresh. My husband didn’t feel well after tasting the poke and I after the salmon. The steamed lobster was the only thing that made this visit worthwhile. We’ll not be returning to the cafe unless steamed lobsters are on the menu.
I've had brunch here multiple times and this was absolutely the most disappointing yet. In my reservation I stated this was a birthday for my husband and not only did they not mention it or have anything special for him, they gave him the bill at the end of the meal. The cold dishes were mostly empty- just trays of ice. The carving station/omelette station was not attended to. I stood there waiting for 5 minutes before simply grabbing fruit and returning to my table. This was my husband's first time at the Sierra Cafe and he was so unhappy we will not be returning. The waiter was very attentive and the only saving grace.
Feeling like a second class citizen. When we checked in the hostess asked if we were here to celebrate anything. I said we are here to celebrate an anniversary. During dinner we saw wait staff bringing out desserts to celebrate other diners special occasion. We didn’t not have anyone in the restaurant acknowledge our special day.
I have been going to this buffet for a few years, unfortunately im not going back, due to the selection of food has changed..They used to have alot more selections of seafood, and now nothing is there.. Im not satisfied at ALL.. especially for what they charge..$$$$
Overrated ! Food is not that good! You can get a better buffet in a lot lesser price! Lots of people, high traffic! It's a free for all! Not a good experience for my family! I even checked in the hotel thinking it would be a nice experience for us! 😡A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
For the past decade, my family has dinner buffet there every time we make our annual visit to Southern California. We had the worst experience this Thanksgiving Day.
We got there on time and it took 10 minutes of wait at the counter before someone had time to tell us to line up somewhere in the hotel lobby to check in.
We didn't get seat until 8:40 for a 7:30 reservation. I can live with that for good food.
By the time we were seated, most hot food were dehydrated. Salad were gone. Lobster were no more. Oysters were still there probably because they did not look fresh. Hence I didn't take the risk. To give Sierra credit, they brought out more salad and lobster later, but not other hot food.
Had to ask the staff for crab crackers and I witnessed something really AMAZED. He grabbed two from a table in front of us, wipe it with a tablecloth and gave to us. The problem was the table was waiting for clean up after diners. I forgot whether the table cloth he used was from the table or it was actually his apron. Either case, those were not something he should use. Cafe Sierra, if this is your general practice, at least not to do it in front of your customers.
I lost my appetite since then....
At the end, I was charged adult price for my 10 years old kid. That got corrected.
Sorry, you lost a long time customer.
Delicious food with a large variety. It was busy so the service was not the best BUT, it’s a buffet, so no big deal really. The hostess was absolutely lovely. She came to our table (and others) multiple times to make sure everything was going well and even remembered our names. She offered my kids sparkling apple cider since they couldn’t have Champagne which was a hit and then made sure they each brought home a cotton candy. Very wonderful brunch. Will be back.
This is probably one of the best brunch / buffets I've had in Los Angeles. The food was fresh and exceptional considering the volume. There were lots of items to choose from. I was surprised by the amount of selection and quality on par with some of the Vegas buffets. Overall it's a wonderful brunch to have to family gatherings and special occasions.
I brought my Grandma who was visiting from out of town. My mother has been raving to my whole family since I took her here this past Mother's Day. The food was great and the spread Cafe Sierra puts out is jaw dropping. They even had new menu items like the whole Maine lobster. Everything was so great !
This is my first time trying the Hilton Sunday Brunch however I was disappointed in the assortment of food that was being offered. The lack of seafood and dishes compared to dinner is unbelieveable. Even though the price is similar, dinner has a lot more variety such as peking duck, ginger crab and lobster. I suggest you try other venues if you are hoping for a premium buffet
