It’s a “two-for” kind of place - the great ever-changing art and the interesting delicious cuisine. I love that I can get a fantastic Rueben in the same place I can get scallops or a unique seafood offering. The soup of the day never misses. Beautiful venue for gatherings - weddings, family reunions, Mothers Day, bridal or baby showers, it’s a Kansas City hidden gem.
The new chef is truly remarkable-great seasonal tastes and combinations that work beautifully. Can’t wait to come back!
Was out of town and had lunch in the outer area. Only thing it was noisy. Having lunch surrounded by art work was terrific. Our server was excellent and recommended several dishes, which were right on. Food fabulous, presentation excellent.
I really enjoy the Cafe and go there often! However, it’s getting pretty pricey. My salmon lunch entree was $19 and my friend’s Reuben didn’t come with potato salad or chips.
Wonderful food surrounded by great art (Kemper Museum), conveniently located in Midtown. I’m surprised so many people don’t know about this treasure!
Always great food and attentive service. And of course viewing great art before or after eating.
I've been going to Cafe Sebasastienne for years and I must say I did not absolutely love it this time. The presentation, although beautiful, was just a little bit over the top, fussy. The smoked tomato soup was more like tomato puree and had not be described as the chilled soup that it was. I think the former chef created a menu of just the right balance of artfulness and a down to earth quality of the food offerings. While my main dish was very good, I missed seeing some of the old menu items.
The best Ruben Sandwich in town. I also repeatedly order the trout, which is excellent! I just tried the flourless chocolate cake for the first time and it was incredible.
Wonderful Sunday brunch spot with swoon worthy art and great service! Delicious food as well.
Where is the wonderful, crusty French bread? Where is the Rueben sandwich?
My plate was warm, not hot; I wouldn't return it, because it was acceptable, but not the quality I am accustomed to at Café Sebastienne.
We had brunch at Café Sebastienne. I had the shrimp and grits and my friend had the beef hash. Both were delicious! We both ordered a wine cocktail, which was also delicious. I would definitely go back for another meal! The only downside was the service. We didn’t see our server much, and he was a little slow to take our orders and bring our check.
We tried the cuisine of Cafe Sebastienne's new chef and we thought the meal was fine. I had the sea bass and my husband had the chicken and both were well prepared. The only disappointment was the wine, a Pinot Bianca from Italy. I thought it was a little sour. It did improve as it warmed from being over chilled.
Great brunch. Fabulous food, wonderful service. You won't be diappointed.
Nice ambiance. The food was great and the art even better.
The food was good but more expensive than it seemed like it should have been. The wait staff was not great. I think this was just a slow time for the restaurant .
New Chef, new menu....amazing flavors! Don’t miss the flatbread appetizer - it is sublime!!!
As always, the wait staff are excellent and the food was superb! We are planning to make this a regular once a week.
The service was stellar. The welcome stellar. The soup wasn't hot and not enough zing. Love the ambience .
Noisier outside than insode
The food was delicious. I took my grandma here for her birthday, and we both loved our meals.
The perfect place for a birthday lunch with a friend!
Better than ever! The new chef who started recently is doing wonderful things with local ingredients. Corn soup with mole tasted like the essence of fresh corn, and the mole with it was complex. The goat cheese appetizer with eggplant was also outstanding (much better than those things sound together). Risotto and pork shoulder were excellent. The wines by the glass are always something to look forward to. Service and hosting are always welcoming and excellent. A very good evening.
Excellent. Wait staff outstanding, courteous, low-key. Kitchen allowed substitutions, which we greatly appreciated - fruit instead of orzo was particularly fine. We also enjoyed the well-done art tributes on the walls. Tables were a little too close together. Noise level was excellent [quiet].
You can’t top eating in such a well lit space. The staff is so professional and the food was a dream.
Best lunch in KC to date. I will return next time I'm in KC and will certainly recommend Cafe Sebastienne to friends
Absolutely sublime!!! Amazing menu with fresh, innovative ingredients. Do not miss the flatbread with yellow beets and dukkah - We can’t wait to taste it again!
The dishes were outstanding, great food with small flourishes that elevated the cuisine from good to positively delightful. Unlike many restaurants that take a kitchen sink approach to the cuisine, Café Sebastienne uses one or two surprising flavors that make each dish memorable. I've never been tempted to call the chef the next day and beg for a recipe, but I plan to ask how in the world he/she made the barramundi taste as good as it did.
Outstanding food as usual. Not very busy. Should be based on the quality.
Always a wonderful place to have that special occasion lunch/dinner/brunch.
Enjoyable experience. I would go back, particularly if I am in town and need to set up a business lunch.
I'm never disappointed at the restaurant. The menu is very creative.
Great weekend brunch!
This is a serious restaurant, even though it is embedded in a museum. Excellent menu, attentive service.
Four friends met for lunch and enjoyed our meal, shared a bottle of wine and visited to our heart's desire!!
For my friends birthday brunch. Her food was good, came together well. Mine although made absolutely no sense at all. I ordered the sausage which tasted like a beautiful grilled hot dog! Collard greens didn’t go well with the meal, the egg didn’t make sense and I ordered potatoes instead of grits...still didn’t mesh well. Top it off, the sauce tasted like hot wing sauce, so absolutely did not make sense. I was disappointed, but couldn’t reorder because of time.
My friends and I enjoyed a nice lunch here before attending another event at the museum. Our meals were exquisite. The service was very nice. The staff was very welcoming.
Food was excellent!
This is just a wonderful, colorful and delicious place to be.
Up beat atmosphere
Great for friends catching up
