For delicious food and great service, the best restaurant in Kansas City!
I love this restaurant. I went to brunch 2 Saturdays in a row, first for my sister’s birthday and the second time for my Mom’s birthday.
The service was great on both occasions. The salmon Benny was delicate and elegant, with wonderful flavors. The second time, I had the trout omelet. It was very good. We had a dessert to share, on both occasions. The lemon cake and a triple layered chocolate with pistachios. Both delivered the desired decadence.
Very tasty, gourmet cuisine. Great service. A bit on the pricy side. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing dinner which included: arugula salad, Indian chicken soup, the halibut entree and a coconut cake. The service was great. We will definitely be back.
Always a great meal in a gracious setting. Wonderful staff give a personal touch and excellent wine recommendations. The country French food is perfectly prepared and a constant delight with a variety of tastes. Very easy and fast drive from Johnson County.
Really good flavorful food with art center atmosphere.
We love the setting and the bonus museum special art exhibits! Food is very good. Avoid the bison which was unusually fatty and had no taste.
It was really cool in the interior cafe ...very uncomfortable.
Went here for Easter Brunch--great food and drink! Very nice service too---very enjoyable venue--Coconut Tres Leches Cake is so good! Loved our experience!
Excellent chef; really good food. Tastes like a 4-star restaurant.
For years, Cafe Sebastianne has been one of my favorite places to showcase Kansas City for lunch or dinner, as the food was reliably fabulous, and the museum is perfect for a short walk around after a meal. The selection of menu items were poor and few. The two dishes we ate, one a salmon special and the other, a chicken dish, were so sub-par, I would suggest it was level with hospital cafeteria food, maybe worse. It was a huge disappointment on so many levels. Until something major has changed and been reviewed, I will not return to eat, nor will I recommend it to anyone. So sad o say goodbye, Cafe Sebastianne!
Quiet elegant food okay limited menu service average
We love Cafe Sebastienne and go there often but this time food was so so. I had the chicken and it was not all that tasty and the rice was dry and had no flavor at all. Others with us commented food not as good as usual. Our service was excellent as always
Our Rueben and Greens ans Grains sandwiches were yummy ans orzo too.
While our server was superbly professional, achieving that difficult to strike balance of being attentive without hovering, our food was a bit disappointing, especially given the high expectations set by our past meals at Cafe Sebastienne. Presentation was particularly lacking, with two of our party's entrees looking more like homestyle diner-fare than fine dining.
The menu was not as balanced and varied as in the past, and the dessert program could benefit from an upgrade. The wine by the glass list is still good, though they were out of the first choice for one of the guests in our party.
Stellar service saved this particular experience, and we will dine here again, hoping that the kitchen was just having an "off" day. That happens to everyone.
The decor is exceptional and just what you'd expect at a contemporary art museum. Very nice variety of food options at acceptable price points. Service was a bit scatter brained but not bad. I'd go back again when in KC.
Great always pleased.
Warm, inviting, excellent service and food. Healthy and changing menu. Great location .
Really enjoyed our first visit and we will be back. Great choice for Sunday brunch. We enjoyed very much the mural/homages to artists that surrounded us in the dining room. Only thing that could be improved is the acoustics---with all the hard surfaces, it is very noisy and hard to converse.
We love this restaurant. And everything about it. The food, Ambience and service are all second to none.
Food was good but service was excellent. One of the guest's quiche was on the small side and when the server came over right after food was delivered she noticed this and went to kitchen and brought back a nice size serving that was very tasty.
Good food and ambiance. Waitperson was unpleasant.
We have visited Cafe Sebastienne for a number of years. The occasions have been
business lunches, special occasions, and friend get-togethers. The atmosphere is
so appealing and the menu is unique. Service is great!
If you are a reuben sandwich lover, you can't beat the reuben at Cafe Sebastienne!
The only negative is the noise level in the atrium area. We love the sunny atmosphere,
but have a bit of problem hearing conversations when seated there.
Once we moved inside out of the noisy but half empty enclosed patio, we enjoyed our lunch. My salmon was cooked perfectly. My husband had the tri-combo: soup, salad, half sandwich. Very filling and delicious. Good service too.
Hard surfaces results in increased noise level. Small price to pay to dine with friends surrounded by beautiful art. The cuisine was very creative and delicious.
Everything was perfect. Charles is the best dining caretaker I can ever remember. The cocktail I had was very generous and my wife and I both enjoyed the meal and wine. We commented later that we can’t wait to come back.
After reading other reviews, Charles is great asset. He should get a writer and write his restaurant memoirs!
I had the trout - always good- but the KOHLRABI mash with some kind of sauce was fantastic. I hope it's still on the menu next time I have lunch here. Wine is nice; just wish it could be a little less expensive. And CHARLES is the best server ever, anywhere.
Café Sebastienne is one of my favorite places. The intimate setting, creative cuisine and excellent service make it a go to place.
Most reliable and dependable spot in KCMO for brunch. Possibly the only restaurant I've ever been to where I've never had a bad meal. I come here 4-5 times a year. Don't bypass the Bloody Mary.
The food was absolutely amazing! The cocktails were just as perfect! Our service was great! We went there for brunch on Saturday and we are still discussing the food on Monday.
Food was OK, but the service was extremely slow. Even once the staff finally came to the table, it took a long time to get our food and check. The strangest part was that there hardly were any other customers in the restaurant.
Valentine’s day dinner
The Porchetta was way too fatty, with very little pork. A big disappointment since until now I have never had a bad meal at this classy restaurant. The chef is new, and needs to hear this criticism. Limited gluten-free options during this Valentine’s Day dinner.
Cafe Sebastienne NEVER fails to deliver! The food from the new chef is a great compliment to the Cafe as well as to all patrons. The ambiance cannot be beat; the entire experience is a tantalizing foray into the art of food!
This is truly one of the best restaurants in KCMO. Service always excellent. Atmosphere amazing. Menu ever-changing, fresh, diverse, interesting and satisfying. Lunch, dinner, brunch or date night, this is a safe bet always.
Café Sebastienne is back!!!
We were regulars of the restaurant before the tragic loss of Executive Chef Jennifer Maloney. This is the first time we have been back since, and are we ever glad we went.
New Executive Chef Remy Ayesh certainly had some big shoes to fill. She impressed us and we are convinced that she is a worthy and gifted choice, and she is a perfect fit for this uniquely charming restaurant. Her talents were evident in every dish we ordered. The featured soup,, tomato and artichoke with a cream base and cheese topping, was bursting with flavor. The salads were unique and delicious, each highlighted by mouth watering dressings and particularly flavorful cheeses ( no surprise since Chef Remy honed her skills at Chicago’s landmark Spiaggia) The swordfish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and each of the sides, including the butternut squash polenta , were r tasty and well prepared. And the Olive Cake was the perfect ending to an exquisite dining experience.
We left feeling that Jennifer Maloney would be proud of her replacement, and would encourage her loyal regulars to support this talented and charming young chef.
The food was fine. The bloody mary has changed since last visit. It needs to change back. Our visitor from Munich was impressed and enjoyed the experience.
I was insulted by this establishment. They called me after I ate lunch there today and accused me of not paying. I told them I paid $40 cash for a $30 lunch for 2 people, rec’d a $5 and 5 one’s for change and left a $6 tip. They put me on hold, came back in several minutes and said “oh, the waitress found the money”. No apologies, nothing. I will not return. They have lost a long time customer of many, many years. I’m still fuming at being accused of stealing and no apology.
What a great lunch. Food was superb. And, Charles, what a special friend.
