Our full dinner menu is available Sunday-Thursday until 10pm & Friday- Saturday until 11pm.
A limited menu usually promises excellent food. This was not the case at St. Ex. It used to be so good! The steak was low quality and the frites were soaking in the beef juice.
When we got there, our table was not available, so we sat at the bar. Decided to eat at the bar instead, and were served immediately! The dishes are not super filling, so we needed to order tots on tip of our order, but the mimosa deal is great! ($10 with brunch, and $1 for each refill.)
One of the best burgers in town in my opinion. Great service our waiter was fantastic. Great deal on mimosas for brunch
The restaurant was too noisy to have conversation. And the food was extremely disappointing. Too bad, as this used to be a great neighborhood spot.
Great local hot spot. Service can be a bit slow when busy but food is worth it.
The room is charming, the bar inviting and the service very good. But the menu is awful - the only thing I wanted to order was a burger, which tasted rather gamey, and my dinner partner's choice at the waitress's recommendation was gloopy and rather tasteless. Don't do "Southern" unless you know what you're doing. A French named bar that looks as authentically European as this one could do a whole lot better with simpler, but good, ingredients and dishes. I would have loved for this to become a regular after-theatre spot as it is so attractive and in a great area, but for the menu - never again!
Solid and reliable all the time. Good food, good ambience, good drink selection, happening part of town. If you want nice but not fancy along with a menu that most can eat from, this is a top consideration.
This place accepted my reservation on a day they were closed. Terrible customer service.
We’ve been regulars for years. Sadly it seems that they’ve made changes to their business model and menu accordingly. They’re going for cheap, low quality bar food now and it shows.
I like this little neighborhood place a lot, but the menu has definitely changed from formal dining to more fried pub food. The place is cute and the service is great, so an excellent option for drinks and snacks.
Service was fine but food was something to be desired. French toast was literally one slice of bread, cut in to two pieces. Then they charge $14 for it. Eggs Benedict was bland, no taste. Will not return for breakfast again-perhaps dinner on the cheap.
We were seated at their odd bar-like setting along 14th Street where you're facing out at the sidewalk and street. Great for people-watching! They were short-staffed so service was very slow to start, but it got better and was good until we asked for the check. Once they took our credit card away we had to go inside to find someone to close the tab with. Good thing we're both patient types. :)
Second time in a row I've gone to Saint-Ex and received ABYSMAL service. It took us 20 minutes to have a drink order taken, after flagging down two separate wait staff. It took 45 minutes for first round of drinks to be served. Our server would forget our orders in the time it took for her to listen to our orders, walk to the kitchen and walk right back. This continued through the entire service even as the crowd dwindled.
POOR NEW MENU AND POOR SERVICE: I checked the Open Table link to the Cafe St-Ex menu tonight before making the business meal reservation, but was disappointed when the restaurant menu did not reflect the website. There was no veal chop, halibut, filet mignon, roast chicken breast, risotto, shrimp, lamb, because all dinner entrees (except 3) have been stripped from the menu. The server told me twice the "fried chicken" I ordered was 4 pieces of "white" meat. However, the pieces included a leg and thigh which are NOT white meat. I expressed displeasure with the dark meat but the server was unfazed. I did not eat the dark meat. There was no effort to remedy her mistake, bring white meat, or remove it from the check.
I enjoyed the place, although it has changed a bit from 'formal dining' to more 'casual'. The menu has great food but it's more on the fried/ grab-and-go style. Costumer sevices superb.
Brunch portions are weak. Salads need to be more plentiful and contain more ingredients. We could not even locate the listed ingredients in the salads as they were so minimal. We all left hungry and had to get more food elsewhere.
Service was extremely slow.
The food was inventive and good. The drinks were great. But the staff were amazing! Some of the best service I have ever had in DC!
One of my favorite places on 14th street. A couple glasses of great wine and an order of their mussels appetizer to share...makes a perfect evening.
As always the food was delicious and the service consistent.
Menu is very small for main entrees and the food was just mediocre. It seems to have gone down a little since I last ate there for dinner several years ago. I last had brunch there and it was much better than the dinner dining experience.
Bar atmosphere. A few tables in the back. Friendly staff. Good hangout. And the food was good too.
Friends getting together for lunch & to catch up. Great variety on their menu, nice wine list with some off-beat labels, attentive service. Great neighborhood bar & café. Don 't know what the noise level is normally -- our lunch was on a very rainy day and there was only one other party.
Fun local restaurant - always have great service, and the food is better than you might expect. Have been going for years and always enjoy my visit.
Add the fried chicken to the menu!
The restaurant was insanely hot, with no air conditioning at all. Our reservations were at 9:30pm so you would think it would be cool outside, but with the windows open and DC hot summer air, it was super hot inside. I recommend this restaurant with caution due to the hot temps inside the restaurant. Our waiter was amazing--we had a large group of 9 people and he managed well and was super attentive.
Good brunch. Love the biscuits. Grapefruit mimosas are the beverage of choice. Billy is fantastic.
I went to brunch with a few friends from out of town and had a great time! We were looking for a place with reasonably priced mimosas and good food in the 14th st neighborhood. This fit the bill - service was attentive, but not overly so, the food was tasty, and the mimosas were great! The french toast I had was yummy. Our waiter was kind enough to serve the bacon and whipped cream on the side because he knew I didn't want them (but my friend did). It was a lovely place for a special occasion at a reasonable price.
love this neighborhood gem! great food, atmosphere, service
Food was decent but not like mind blowing. Service was prompt and friendly.
Great food, great service, great cocktails. great location and reasonable prices. What more could you ask for?
Café St. Ex has been and continues to be a longtime favorite of mine, and it's one of my first picks when looking to entertain out of town guests. As always, it was a great pick and we all had a good time. Great cocktails and cuisine. We'll look forward to dining out here again.
My best friend and I went here for brunch this past Sunday and it was great! A perfect location (and perfect day!) on 14th St! All of the staff was so friendly and relaxed and the outdoor seating was great!
Delicious food. Good atmosphere right on 14th. But service was a little slow and the "bottomless" deal is strange/unnecessary.
Good food, but it was quite cold out and the doors were wide open. We were seated near the door and had to wear our jackets during dinner. More of a bar than a restaurant.
The pasts was tasty but the portion very small.
Perfect for brunch! I just love this place! The food, the mimosas, everything!
Great service, and a small but tasty menu, Saint-Ex never disappoints. Sitting on the sidewalk is also great people watching.
We made a reservation for a party of 10 for a Saturday brunch and were very pleased with our experience. I chose this restaurant for its bottomless deal ($10 for the first mimosa and then only $1 for each after that) and was not expecting the food to be particularly life-changing. While it wasn't amazing, everyone really enjoyed their dishes, our waitress was nice and she kept the drinks coming. If you're looking for a reasonably priced bottomless brunch with relatively good food and enough space for a larger group, this is the place to go. They also have a really nice patio area that they'll open up on warmer sunny days.
This place has gone steadily downhill. The menu was glorified bar food and the service was truly terrible.
With so many options, consider Saint Ex a spot to grab a drink, nothing more.
