Cafe Routier, Bistro and Lounge, serving a three paneled menu format; Regional (a different region of the world every 8 weeks), Seasonal (locally sourced seasonal ingredients) and a specialty menu of classic Bistro fare. A 40 seat lounge serving 'small plates' and tapas adjoins the bar area. Ethos is important to us.
Consistently excellent French inspired cuisine. One vegan diner at table—chef went above and beyond to create a wonderful vegan Japanese inspired entree with seaweed, edamame, motels etc. Quite unexpected and much appreciated.
We met our friends for dinner and sat in one of the round booths which are perfect for talking and privacy. My friend and I had the halibut special while my husband had his usual steak frites. We are never disappointed when we come here. Great drinks and don’t forget the profiteroles for dessert!
Excellent service, excellent food. I will return soon!
The appetizers were really good, but the entrees were lacking. I ordered the vegetable strudel which was more like a cross between an Asian spring roll and a burrito. The vegetables were just stir fried and limp. Not what I know of a strudel. My husband ordered the beans and scallops- too many beans. But the lobster riviolo was tasty, but the real hit was my husband's mussels. Desserts were really good.
The atmosphere is welcoming, and the waitress we had could not have been more accomodating and lovely. The appetizers (Mussels and steak bruscetta) were amazing. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The only issue we had was that 3 of us went for the meatloaf and were disappointed. Although we all like mushrooms, the mushrooms overwhelmed the meat and you couldn't taste the meat at all. Luckily we shared the chicken and steak and left most of the meatloaf on the plates. I was surprised that no one asked if it was ok when 3 of us failed to finish and didn't want to take the rest home. I would definitely go back though; cute place with nice menu that changes seasonally; would just skip the meatloaf unless you love mushrooms.
This was our second time here, the first exactly one year ago on our anniversary. You can guess if we came back then we obviously liked it! Actually we love it! The food is always creative and delicious and the wait staff are top notch. If we lived around here we would want them as friends! Highly recommend this special place!
Great food. Diverse inventive menu. Huge portions
I’ve been here many times and they never fail to impress.
The best Resturant on the shore. Could not have asked for a nicer evening. Food was incredible as always.
We were not impressed this time at all. Party of 9 over 700 dollar bill. The dried oyster tasted spoiled and pungent, our entries took a very very long time and dessert was inedible ( the lemon Moousse “ as was the pear tini. What a waste of money.
Delicious food attractively presented. Good wine list
Wait staff was knowledgeable and responsive. Food was superior. Ambiance was pleasant and quiet. One of the few establishments open on a Monday.
Excellent service and food as always.
This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The menu had a variety of interesting options. Cocktails were imaginative. Service was friendly and attentive. This is definitely going on our restaurant rotation.
Just Go! Enjoy
Four of us ate at Cafe Routiere for a couples evening out.
The host was very accommodating and our waitress was very friendly.
The food is excellent with very ample portion sizes.
For food quality, quantity and service this restaurant is good value !!!!!
The entrees came out hot and presentation was superb.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Everything was delicious, with great service as well!
Loved the rack of lamb and turtle cake ! We will be back soon.
The scallop special was phenomenal. It was the best meal out I’ve had in a while. Of course, Patty, as always, was our excellent server.
The best restaurant on shoreline! Best ambience! Best service! Best menu!!
Excellent drinks service and general vibe
Gazpacho salads and starters were amazing
However steak was just ok and it came with too many fries whereas we are more into healthy vegetables
wonderful restaurant ....pretty.....comfortable....and the food is first class.....a great dining experience
It was our parents 50th wedding anniversary. We had an amazing time. The food was excellent and the service (Dana) was outstanding. Thank you for a great evening.
Great drinks and great food. Not to be missed.
As always, excellent service. Wonderful new menu with so many new, innovative choices.,
would highly recommend this for a night out or a special event or a fun dinner at the bar
Easily one of the very best restaurants in Connecticut. The menu design, quality of food and presentation are unmatched.
Food was on point, excellent execution on all fronts. Venue in need of a slight overhaul, kind of quaint but outdated and harkens back to 1970s vibe. Did not detract from our very delicious meal; also, the attentive staff were there when they were supposed to be, very good overall. Two thumbs up!
Delicious! Little fancier than my normal place but the dining room is warm and beautiful, limited menu but fresh, seasonal and delicious.
Never disappoints.....Food and service were excellent. We had the Veal Milanese (melt in your mouth) and the Lamb Chop special... outstanding.... this is just a great all around place to eat.....if you want a recommendation.... GO!
We chose to make reservations here for our 25th wedding anniversary because we have consistently had a great meal here and were not disappointed. We were seated right away. The staff was very friendly and professional. We did not have to wait to be served. The food was delicious. I highly rate this restaurant for the great service and food!
Our experience was excellent!! Great service. Wonderful options for apps ! Had the octopus. Superb. All four of us had different entrees with a strong thumbs up on all !’
OUr first time at Cafe Routier.
Our waitress was phenomenal and patient with us.
Food was very good . The salad starter was phenomenally but big enough for two people.
I was tempted to eat only that and cancel my main course. Instead I let half my salad get thrown out and then I couldn't finish my very good main course as well. All of us wanted to try a dessert but all of us were too full to do so.
We will definitely return.
A little disappointed with quality of food. I had the duck dinner, it was slightly over cooked and not a lot of taste. My son and mother had steak/frittes. Both steaks were a bit chewy, but flavor was good, my dad had hanger steak and said it was wonderful. Again, most times food is awesome, this day ( Father’s Day) it was so-so
My wife and I love Cafe Routier! We love the food, wine and atmosphere. Chef Jeremy Haile is a great new addition!
The restaurant is lovely food is good. The dinning room just has lousy service compared to the pub area. The pub menus is much better then the other menu . If your going to have an upscale restaurant with up scale prices then you should have well seasoned wait staff not obnoxious staff . I much prefer sitting at the bar then the dinning room ! By the looks of the people waiting to sit in the pub area I’m not alone .
Always fantastic! Loved the cheese plate and the roast chicken entree.
We went to Cafe Routier last Saturday night for our anniversary on the suggestion of online reviews. The restaurant was lovely, but not very full considering it being a Saturday night. Our waitress was very nice, but also somewhat awkward. The quality of the food was very uneven. I had so send back my drink, but it's replacement was just fine. Our appetizers were outstanding - an excellent foie gras mousse and my fried oysters were devine. My entree was disappointing - perfectly cooked duck which unfortunately had an overly sweet sauce. My wife's steak frites were excellent! The portions were large which left no room for dessert. I think we should have eaten in the bar which was hopping!
Always love Cafe Routier! Great menu, great drinks and great service. Every time!
The risotto, cod, and creme brulée were all delicious!
