Cafe Renaissance Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy our visits to Cafe Renaissance. We've never been disappointed by service, food, ambiance or any other aspect. If you haven't been there you are missing a great experience. If you have, you don't need me to tell how excellent it is. The printed menu is wonderful, the specials are always fantastic. If you aren't sure about what you are thinking of ordering, ask questions. If the service staff isn't sure of the answer Chef Ocean will certainly be available. Your host (and the owner), Saeed Abtahi, has only one plan - to make you and every other guest happy, and he has been doing it for years.
The food was wonderful but we felt like second class citizens compared to other diners. We were asked what kind of wine we wanted and had to remind the waiter that had not been given the menu and thus couldn't determine our wine choice. Then he spent at least five minutes schmoozing with a couple who were apparently regulars (and we discovered later, apparently big tippers.) While the wine steward couldn't seem to part from the table next to us, he never visited our table. Mind you, we found his fawning attitude obnoxious, but at least he could have pretended we were actually in the room.
I am always the sceptic when it comes to trying new places but dining at Cafe Renaissance was a wonderful experience altogether. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. I would confidently recommend Cafe Renaissance to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic dinner.
I brought a client to celebrate and wanted the night to be extra special. Chef Ocean delivered! He came to the table to ask what we liked. She began with diver scallops kissed with kahlua and I had shrimp in a saffron broth - yum. He surprised us with a melon soup with blackberry and raspberry garnish. The cool melon melted in our mouth. The main course was rack of lamb for me and lobster for my client. I asked for sauce on the side but ended up devouring it. It perfectly enhanced the flavor of the lamb. Her lobster was out of the shell with a delicate wine sauce. Both entrees were surrounded with fresh vegetables. Dessert was berries in a midori zabayon sauce. Flaming Irish coffee made at our table topped the spectacular meal.
We dined at Café Renaissance on Feb. 15, splitting the difference between Valentine's Day and my wife's birthday. We were surprised at how busy the restaurant, which still had Valentine's Day decorations, was on the day after. The food and service were both outstanding, and it was a wonderful evening. We are in the DC area for one year, and we have been trying to systematically visit as many of the fine restaurants here as we can. Café Renaissance is the only restaurant we have visited twice, and it did not disappoint!
This is our second visit for a special dinner & both times the food was excellent with a wonderful wine list. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous &ly decorated for Valentines Day. The owner was very hospitable offering port at night's end. Sadly, this is the second time the service was lacking--- entrees arriving before the appetizer, the waiter ignoring us or at least showing clear preference for regulars so that they were finished long before ... even though we were there 1/2 hour before them. No making of amends ...one more try perhaps before our patronage is lost...and we go back to L'Auberge...
This is the second time dining at this restaurant and we had such poor service both times. It took 45 mins. to get our salads and they were unflavorable. I had the avacado crab and caesar. We did not have wine so maybe that's why the service was so poor. The bananas foster is what we came for and it disappointed. The bananas were to ripe and no brown sugar! We have yet to find bananas foster like Brenanns in New Orleans in this area. We will never go back.
Although they were totally booked with patrons celebrating Valentine's Day, the Cafe Renaissance staff made a huge effort to please their guests. The service is excellent and everyone makes you feel welcome. We enjoyed the delicious food and the romantic decorations (fresh flowers, candles, and heart balloons). Although most tables for two are very close to each other, we were lucky to have a quiet nook in the side dining room.
From the moment we entered, the restaurant was decorated with spectacular flowers and looked beautiful. We had 11 people that all consider themselves foodies and wine nuts. Only three had been before. One of our party has significant food alergies and the chef was able to prepare something truly spectacular for her. Everyone was amazed at the quality of the food and presenation. Do not miss the presentation of the Irish Coffees!
The host/hostess, wait staff, sommelier and owner all make you feel comfortable and ensure that you are well taken care of. The waiters menu recommendations were fantastic. The recommendations of the sommelier were incredible. Everything comes together to make this a fantastic night out.
Our first visit to this restaurant but it won’t be the last! Service was outstanding and the food was excellent. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The staff (including the chef and owners) came out and introduced themselves. The owners brought us a sampler of desserts to try at the end of our meal. The dessert selection alone makes this restaurant worth the visit. Lunch portions are very generous; perfectly cooked, prepared, and presented. This restaurant should be on everyone’s list of places to visit!
After a fabulous experience on my birthday, we returned the next week and let Chef Ocean bring us his favorite things. Dinner was even better than the first time. The appetizer of duck breast with pomegranite sauce was delicious; we nearly licked our plates. The salad with blackberries, endive, heart of palm, and arugula was light and tasty. My entree was mixed grill with rack of lamb and beef - the lamb was so fabulous that I took the beef home. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. My husband had flounder with a mashed potato crust and a crab cake. The fish was tender and delicious and the crab cake was all lump crab. Our desserts were flourless chocolate cake and flambe berries - we loved every bite. Service was perfect!
We went to Cafe Renaissance for my birthday on the evening of the Super Bowl. We had the full attention of the staff. The owner sat with us during our dessert. Chef Ocean came out numerous times and prepared special requests - just because we asked. He made a souffle for me and baked Alaska for my husband. The lobster was delicious and all the delicate vegetables on the side were great surprises. Who would expect carrots cooked in Grand Marnier! They made this the most special birthday ever! Thank you!
My wife and I visited Cafe Renaissance this evening to celebrate my birthday. Having grown up in a restaurant family, and having visited many of the famous downtown DC restaurants, this was a special evening for us. From our initial greeting at the door to the warm farewells over two hours later, Cafe Renaissance excelled. The chef visited our table twice; the sommelier was exceptional; the staff was extremely attentive and very friendly. Standouts dishes included the Beef and Lamb Wellington, the Pesto Mussels, and desserts created at our table. It was truly a satisfying, fun evening - highly recommended - we will be back soon!
Sunday evening and Café Renaissance was packed. Four of us were there for my wife's birthday. We began with small salads, they brought four - the second lady really didn't want one so the server took it back. Chef Ocean came out with a plate and asked (jokingly of course), "Don't you like my food?" He offered her a special ravioli with a delicate sauce - she really didn't want it but took a bite - and then almost devoured it. She said it was incredible and, very out of character, "sopped" up the sauce with their wonderful French bread. Chef said he had one beef Wellington remaining - for me. It was terrific. My wife's Dover Sole melted in her mouth. We've been "regulars" at Café Renaissance for years. Try it once and you'll be back.
Celebrated my college roommate's birthday with friends & it was very nice. My roommate ordered a souffle which was a disappointment, but all the other dishes were wonderful & the staff could not have been nicer with a special dessert plate for us all to share. We all would definitely return in the future. As a note, if you like flaming entrees, desserts & Irish coffee, this is the place to go.
Fantastic all the way around! The food was excellent in taste and prepared with great detail and presentation. The staff was absolutely fantastic. I felt like a very valued customer who was given VIP treatment. They wanted and appreciated my business and went out of there way to ensure we knew it. The wine let was very diverse and extensive. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys fine dinning. The cherry on top was the humble prices they charged for such a great experience.
Cafe Renaissance is a lovely decorated restaurant....fresh flowers on every table and a very pretty dining area. Service was outstanding and management made us feel very welcome for our first visit there. Food was very good with the appetizer of crab meat and avocado the best. Perfect restaurant for a couple wanting a quiet, romantic dining experience.
