Cafe Pyrenees Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed another wonderful meal and wine at Cafe Pyrenees. The Pyrenees salad is quite tasty; not overdone and not too much. A good start to a fabulous meal. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was very good, served on a bed of mashed potatoes with assorted vegetables. Definitely recommend. The lemon mousse crepe with strawberry sauce was a perfect ending. Light, but oh so good. The wine selections are second to none. If you are not sure what to order, the servers are very helpful and knowledgeable. Five stars!
We celebrated my husband's birthday with close family and had small kids as well. The setting was very nice, great ambience and most importantly the food was top notch and very delicious. It was our first time here and we liked it so much that we already booked a room for another family gathering.
As usual, the food was excellent. The bartender suggested the wine. It was also great. We were disappointed with the waiter. He was paying more attention to another table and pretty much ignored us. I'm not used to a waiter in this restaurant to just do the minimum. He barely spoke to us. We've been there in many occasions when it's been quite busy and service has always been excellent. Not this time.
I was disappointed in Cafe Pyrenees. For a French/Bistro restaurant, their wine list was really lacking in selections from France. A few bottles from the US, Argentina and the like, but almost nothing from France. Also, the list seemed to be populated with labels you'd find at Mariano's or Jewel. The price points were reasonable, though. I ordered their version of Steak Frites. The steak arrived cooked as ordered, but cold. The "frites" were just frozen bagged french fries. I asked the waiter for aioli instead of ketchup and he had no idea what I was talking about. I had to explain what it was, and he had absolutely no idea. The waiter also mentioned that he had been on staff for many years. Credit where it is due -- service was friendly, pricing was reasonable and ambiance was nice. Soups and starters were fine. Perhaps this is exactly perfect for the far suburbs of Chicago, but this place would die a quick death in the City.
We have returned to this Libertyville restaurant for special occasions, this time for a family birthday celebration. We could not be happier with the preparations made by the restaurant both before and during the event. While the restaurant was expectedly busy on a Saturday evening, our service remained excellent and the food outstanding. As we had a group, we selected one of the prix-fixed menu options ahead of time. All who attended were impressed with their food selections.
We enjoyed our dinner at Café Pyrenees. The menu was impressive and the food was excellent. Everyone in our party loved their food and dessert. They were marvelous about the birthday celebration with their own little surprise. Our waiter treated our 7 year old with respect and he enjoyed what he special ordered as well. The room was full, but it was not so noisy that we couldn't carry on a nice conversation. I noticed a room for larger private parties, too. They had both Tapas night and allowed us to use the regular menu as well.
The restaurant was almost empty the day we went, granted it was a Thursday. We had to search out someone to seat us. The food we had was a very small portion size. It tasted ok, but for the money I expected much more. It just wasn't as good as years back. Maybe they have a different chef during the week.
We needed to wait 30 minutes to be seated. They need to accept fewer reservations. Why have a reservation if the time is not honored ?! Also, there is not enough help to bus the tables. The table next to us was left unattended for 15 minutes with dirty napkins, glasses, and the spray bottle to wipe down the table on it. That was not good and it definitely what I didn't want to look at.
The food was good. The rack of lamb and dover sole was good.
Set in a shopping plaza this place surprises you when you step inside. Lovely decor with a feeling of old world charm. Very attentive staff that perceives your needs and truly wants you to have a wonderful experience. Our waiter Alejandro was an absolute gem. Wish he could be our waiter in every restaurant we go to. He could teach other people a thing or two. Plan to request him next time too! We celebrated our 30 wedding anniversary here and will definitely go back again.
From the moment we walk in, we feel welcomed. We are remembered by the staff and feel at home. As for the food, absolutely wonderful. From the warm rolls to the Creme Brûlée, everything is top-notch. The wait staff are especially accommodating and do everything to make our visit special. Thanks being our place to celebrate.
