When visiting Family in Vermont, it’s always on our list to dine at Cafe Provence. Food is always exceptional.

Wow! We have dined at Cafe Provence several times, always excellent and a good value, but last Thursday for their Thanksgiving Buffet was exceptional. Frankly, I wasn't expecting to be impressed, I'm not a big fan of buffets. I make an exception for Cafe Provence! Their selections were varied enough to provide something for everyone and all were prepared with care. Their turkey was tender and very well flavored, the filet sliced to order and cooked to a turn, the side dishes of root vegetables and dressing still make me salivate just a bit when I think of them! I won't rave too much about the desserts but let me just say that the pecan pie (from Gourmet Provence) was the best I have ever had and I am from the South! All of this was accomplished efficiently by a very friendly restaurant staff.

I can't wait for the holidays to come next year so we can repeat this new Thanksgiving tradition!

Cafe Provence is our absolute favorite special restaurant. The food is always so fabulous. We went for Thanksgiving, and it was fantastic. We were there last year as well. The main meal was scrumptious. The extra dishes were amazing. The desert choices were incredible. We really enjoyed our meal. Our waitress was so nice, and we never felt rushed. It our new holiday tradition, and my favorite restaurant for lunch with friends. Brandon is a lovely town as well. It is a little bit of a drive as we live in Vergennes, but well worth it. Thank you Cafe Provence, we love you!!!

This is one our favorite places. We had them do our rehearsal dinner and the deserts and cake at our wedding at Mountain Top Inn. The tomato pie is awesome and the french onion soup might be one of the best I've had. The food is amazing all around and a can't miss for anything on the menu. My wife had the cordon blue and it was really delicious.

Noticing the service level has dwindled as of late. Forgot to bring the bread until very late. The lasagna was ice cold. Maybe just off night. Normally very good.

While we have eaten at the downstairs bar a couple of times, this was our first meal in the actual restaurant. We were happy to see they had a specials menu and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers, entree and dessert! We also found their private label wine to be exceptional.

Maybe I ordered the wrong items in a French restaurant. New England Chowder was similar to
library paste in consistency, and had no taste.
Pizza was mediocre at best. Our waitress was terrific.

Way overpriced for quality and quantity of food. From appetizer to main the meal was
so mediocre that I was mystified as to why this eatery gets such high marks. Will not go
back ever. We dined on a Friday evening, high season and there was a few additional
diners. Should have been the red flag. My duck dinner was swimming in a brothy white
bean base. Dry, dry duck leg and a meager portion of smoked duck breast. Extremely
small portion of fish was served to my husband. Coffee....alas cold. No more to say.

Excellent food and service, as always. I rated the noise level as moderate; it can get sort of loud when the place is full. In good weather, the outdoor patio is a lovely place to eat and quite quiet.

The server was attentive, friendly and good natured. The ambience was quiet and relaxing. The food was excellent from soups, to salads, to pizza, to specialty dishes and burgers. A nice end to a long drive to Vermont for a tired family.

Second visit, and as with first, took a long time for food to arrive, presumably because it was being cooked to order. We found the food very professionally done, not your run of the mill menu or recipes, a nice change from "cookie cutter" restaurants where you typically find similar items pretty much taste the same.

I return here time and time again even though it is an hour's drive. The food is always outstanding and the specials are always just that, different from what is on the menu. Service is always great and I never feel rushed to vacate the table. Fine dining at its best and reasonable pricing for exceptional food.

Food worthy of Michelin star(s). Everyone enjoyed their meals--beautifully presented, creative, and bottom line: they tasted fantastic. We all sampled each other's choices. Especially remarkable was the blueberry bread pudding. This is a favorite restaurant of ours and it doesn't disappoint.

We were seven friends meeting for a convivial evening. The waitress was friendly but a bit chirpy and the food was not as good as we anticipated or remembered from earlier visits. The featured fish stew was much too salty and the spinach salad with balsamic dressing was overdressed and soggy. The asiago cheese basket in which it was served was also too salty. We all agreed the Cafe Provence has slipped in the last year, in both food quality and service.

I had looked forward to eating here after hearing good things and reading good reviews but this place was a disappointment on all fronts. Service was terrible--so slow and seemed disorganized. Our server was pleasant but unless this was her first day she had no excuse for
Her lack of timing. Waited almost 1.5 hours for our entree. No water refills ever. Sat for almost 15 minutes before being offered a drink. This was in a half full restaurant.
As for the food--not a big menu so dismayed they were out of one appetizer. Oh well. Duck entree was sub-par. Crispy leg was rather dry. Barely any breast meat, I had two slices and my husbands portion was 4. It seems that they split on half duck breast between the two entrees? Not an appropriate portion for the price. The whole thing was bathed in a very salty broth. Would definitely not recommend cafe Provence!

The outdoor seating offered an attractive setting and the tables spaced to allow for quiet conversation. The menu offers many healthful food options and the dishes are creative. The cobb salad contained very fresh ingredients with a light dressing. The Cafe's own wine is lovely - we had the pinot noir. Service was very good: personable and just the right amount of attentiveness without being intrusive. We will be back!

My Future wife and I went on the recommendation of Mitch from the Paw house bed n breakfast in west Rutland. And VERY glad we did so. We sat outside with our Yorkie. The waitress was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about Wine. Not sure if this is going to come across as arrogant but being from New York (culinary capitol of the world) I have eaten food prepared by some of the best chefs in the world. And this chef could easily cut the mustard at any manhattan restaurant. Outstanding food. I had the seafood stew and each piece of seafood held onto it's own distinct flavor which is no small feat in a stew. Escargot fantastically flavored and silky tender. Beet and goat cheese salad beautifully presented local ingredients and delicious. My fiance had the beef medallions which were so tender they melted when you looked at them the calamari -perfectly cooked not the least bit chewy and delicious breading and sauce only issue I had was with a woman who came while everyone was already seated and eating and enjoying the music and she asked for the music to be turned down and the waitress complied to my and other tables dismay. However the waitress quickly rectified when asked to turn back on. Loved this spot. Worthy of at least 1 Michelin

Have eaten at Cafe Provence many times. Tuesday night was by far the worst. Appetizers came promptly and were great - but then we waited almost 90 minutes for our entrees. While the food was OK, we were so angry at that point it was hard to enjoy it. When dining with 80 year olds, that's a LONG wait, and unacceptable at any level. They were busy but there were many empty tables, maybe a little more than half full, so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed with customers. The staff was not very accommodating in addressing our concerns. Super disappointing from a restaurant that we have always considered to be one of Vermont's best.

We have been there many times in the past. Unfortunately Chef Robert was away that evening and the food was less good than usual. My seafood stew had one scallop, one shrimp, and no lobster at all. My wife's beef was badly overcooked. The service was terribly slow. We arrived at 6:30 and were served our entrees at 8 p.m.

If you are staying in Brandon, this is one of the only games in town. Maybe that's why they seem to be chronically backed up and slow serving the food--because they can get away with it. The ambiance is promising, and the food, while a bit overpriced, would be worth it if delivered on time. However, when you are made to wait an hour after being seated before being told "I'm very sorry but the kitchen is really backed up; I'm not really sure when your food is coming. I can try to yell at them some more", it would decidedly have been better to eat at a lower-brow but reliable establishment. I hope that they can get their act together, but we are done with giving them chances.

We reserved a table for lunch having read others' reviews. We thought this would be more"special" than it was. We were a party of four vegetarians so that said, we had some choices. The best was the vegetable quiche. Really quite good. The rest of us each had the roasted veggie wrap. It was OK. The goat cheese on the wrap was excellent but the veggies lacked flavor. Were we in Brandon again we would return and try different selections. Our waiter was very good and the surroundings were lovely though not quite Provence.

Things were fine except for a small wire bristle embedded in one of the dishes. This was shown to the server who said the kitchen would be informed. We heard nothing more until I asked when the bill was brought. "Oh, it was from a cleaning brush, and they're very sorry." No accommodation was made, nor did we ask for one. This might have been a dangerous situation if the wire had been ingested.
