Overrated. Waited over an hour for the entree which was unremarkable. The fixed price was overpriced. Noisy. Could use a thorough cleaning. Waitperson asked us to hand her the soiled dishes when she cleared. I have been to Cafe Provence several times and thought I'd give it another chance. Bad decision. I won't go there again.
My husband and I shared the escargots appetizer that came with a perfectly dressed salad. My Chicken Cordon Bleu was excellent, as was his Seafood Stew. The service was attentive and friendly, and we love the atmosphere at Cafe Provence. It was a good crowd for a Saturday night. Thank you Chef Robert and staff!
We travel to Vermont a couple of times a year and we always find time to have dinner at Cafe Provence. The mussels are outstanding! The portions are large (we shared a salad and it was plenty for 2 and we'll probably share an entree next time we go) and the house-label wines are very good, a really outstanding value.
Food was Excellent, service was excellent! The only issue we had was it wasn’t busy, and with only a table for 4, it took almost an hour and a half after ordering to get our meal. The rest of the experience was great. Not sure what happened. 6:45 reservation, waited longer than anticipated and left later than anticipated.
Excellent choice for aprés gallery opening at the Brandon Artists Guild.
A very nice long leisurely lunch. Very good food and drink. Unhurried and conducive to thoughtful conversation.
Cesar salad and roasted chicken was very good.
Fabulous menu and wonderful wonderful food! Eager to return.
Always a pleasure making the trip here. We love the food and wish Robert had a restaurant in Manchester
We have enjoyed some good meals at Cafe Provence and some not so good. Prime Rib was definitely a not so good meal. Downstairs was cold and lifeless. Private dining room next to bar.??? Disappointing to say the least.
Excellent food, exceptional waitress! A bit out of the way but worth the effort. We dined early and restaurant was quiet. The temperature in the room was cold and colder still in the restroom. I didn’t want to take off my coat.
I have mixed emotions about this restaurant. We arrived at our reserved time of 7:30 and were promptly seated. It wasn’t very busy in there - maybe about 20 other diners. The waitress immediately brought us water & menus and then asked if we would like to order a cocktail. Both my husband and I ordered off of their specialty cocktail menu. Ten minutes later our waitress came back to see if we were ready to place our order. We inquired about our drink orders and she said that they would be out soon, that the bar was backed up. We thought that was strange because no one was sitting at the bar and there really wasn’t very many people in the restaurant. We placed our orders for appetizers and our meals. Five minutes later the waitress informs us that they can’t find the calamari in the freezer and asks if we would like something else. We reply “just our drinks that we’ve been waiting for”. At this point we were pretty close to giving up on the place! But then our waitress brings us a complimentary bowl of clam chowder as a way to apologize for the delay and the fact that there wasn’t any calamari. That was super nice of her and it was delicious. We finally got our drinks - 25 minutes after we sat down. Both drinks were very small. My husband’s was watered down and mine was just ok. Definitely not worth the wait. I can tell you that our meals were very good and that the serving size was plentiful. But our waitress never checked back to see if we needed anything else while we were eating (perhaps a glass of wine?) so we had to flag her down to request it. So in summary, extremely horrible bar service, great food, generous food portions, a bit pricey for a subpar experience.
This is the 3rd time we have visited as we live over an hour away so we only visit on special occasions. Even though I made a reservation, our group of 4 was shunted to 2 of the worst tables in the restaurant. I've been in the restaurant business for years so I know where the bad tables are. And to make matters worse, all of the best tables were empty for the entire time we were there. It absolutely ruined the evening. And the pouting, angry hostess made it even worse.I don't understand what we do to always be shunted to the worst tables, even when better ones are available. I don't understand when we ask for a better table why the hostess gets angry and just shunts us to another crummy one. I won't be back. Sorry Cafe Provence, but you have lost my business.
As always, this restaurant was superb. All the choices varied and everyone was happy. My husband declared his NE Clam Chowder to be the best he's ever had and is mad about the bread pudding.
Exceptional food. Goat cheese pizza appetizer was awesome. Makes for a great date location, and save room for dessert.
Cafe Provence never fails to deliver a superb dining experience. Our friends from out of town were really impressed too.
When visiting Family in Vermont, it’s always on our list to dine at Cafe Provence. Food is always exceptional.
I went here for my anniversary and enjoyed every last bite!! I plan to revisit in the future :)
Wow! We have dined at Cafe Provence several times, always excellent and a good value, but last Thursday for their Thanksgiving Buffet was exceptional. Frankly, I wasn't expecting to be impressed, I'm not a big fan of buffets. I make an exception for Cafe Provence! Their selections were varied enough to provide something for everyone and all were prepared with care. Their turkey was tender and very well flavored, the filet sliced to order and cooked to a turn, the side dishes of root vegetables and dressing still make me salivate just a bit when I think of them! I won't rave too much about the desserts but let me just say that the pecan pie (from Gourmet Provence) was the best I have ever had and I am from the South! All of this was accomplished efficiently by a very friendly restaurant staff.
I can't wait for the holidays to come next year so we can repeat this new Thanksgiving tradition!
As always excellent food, and ambience, would recommend to anyone anytime!!
Cafe Provence is our absolute favorite special restaurant. The food is always so fabulous. We went for Thanksgiving, and it was fantastic. We were there last year as well. The main meal was scrumptious. The extra dishes were amazing. The desert choices were incredible. We really enjoyed our meal. Our waitress was so nice, and we never felt rushed. It our new holiday tradition, and my favorite restaurant for lunch with friends. Brandon is a lovely town as well. It is a little bit of a drive as we live in Vergennes, but well worth it. Thank you Cafe Provence, we love you!!!
Terrific place. Excellent food and very friendly, attentive service.
Noticing the service level has dwindled as of late. Forgot to bring the bread until very late. The lasagna was ice cold. Maybe just off night. Normally very good.
This is one our favorite places. We had them do our rehearsal dinner and the deserts and cake at our wedding at Mountain Top Inn. The tomato pie is awesome and the french onion soup might be one of the best I've had. The food is amazing all around and a can't miss for anything on the menu. My wife had the cordon blue and it was really delicious.
While we have eaten at the downstairs bar a couple of times, this was our first meal in the actual restaurant. We were happy to see they had a specials menu and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers, entree and dessert! We also found their private label wine to be exceptional.
Went to Café with my fiancé for a date night, as he’d never been. I’ve been countless times and it is always great I love this restaurant and the staff is amazing!
Good food. Totally clueless waitress. It appeared there was a problem in the kitchen.
Fantastic French-inspired food in Vermont. Everything at this restaurant is tasty. You can't go wrong on the menu.
Maybe I ordered the wrong items in a French restaurant. New England Chowder was similar to
library paste in consistency, and had no taste.
Pizza was mediocre at best. Our waitress was terrific.
Way overpriced for quality and quantity of food. From appetizer to main the meal was
so mediocre that I was mystified as to why this eatery gets such high marks. Will not go
back ever. We dined on a Friday evening, high season and there was a few additional
diners. Should have been the red flag. My duck dinner was swimming in a brothy white
bean base. Dry, dry duck leg and a meager portion of smoked duck breast. Extremely
small portion of fish was served to my husband. Coffee....alas cold. No more to say.
Excellent food and service, as always. I rated the noise level as moderate; it can get sort of loud when the place is full. In good weather, the outdoor patio is a lovely place to eat and quite quiet.
The server was attentive, friendly and good natured. The ambience was quiet and relaxing. The food was excellent from soups, to salads, to pizza, to specialty dishes and burgers. A nice end to a long drive to Vermont for a tired family.
Amazing gem in a small Vermont town of 3000. The seafood stew was great as were the salads
Superb all around. A lovely, distinctive restaurant tucked away in a small town. A real find.
Interesting menu. The food is excellent however the service is abysmal. Among the worst, most arrogant and inattentive I have seen in many years. Quite surprising when you consider that it is owner managed.
Second visit, and as with first, took a long time for food to arrive, presumably because it was being cooked to order. We found the food very professionally done, not your run of the mill menu or recipes, a nice change from "cookie cutter" restaurants where you typically find similar items pretty much taste the same.
I return here time and time again even though it is an hour's drive. The food is always outstanding and the specials are always just that, different from what is on the menu. Service is always great and I never feel rushed to vacate the table. Fine dining at its best and reasonable pricing for exceptional food.
Always excellent, the food is fresh and the recipes are thoughtful. Since meals are prepared with care to order, there can sometimes be a little wait, but it's worth it.
Food worthy of Michelin star(s). Everyone enjoyed their meals--beautifully presented, creative, and bottom line: they tasted fantastic. We all sampled each other's choices. Especially remarkable was the blueberry bread pudding. This is a favorite restaurant of ours and it doesn't disappoint.
We were seven friends meeting for a convivial evening. The waitress was friendly but a bit chirpy and the food was not as good as we anticipated or remembered from earlier visits. The featured fish stew was much too salty and the spinach salad with balsamic dressing was overdressed and soggy. The asiago cheese basket in which it was served was also too salty. We all agreed the Cafe Provence has slipped in the last year, in both food quality and service.
