Cafe Provencal - Williamsburg Ratings and Reviews
What a difference the wait staff can make!! I had not dined at Cafe Provencal is four years because of a bad experience with wait staff. I was so pleased with the dining experience this time. Kareem was attentive and accommodating of our numerous requests for menu substitutions. To the owners of Cafe Provencal - you have a gem in Kareem.
Every detail of our dining experience was exceptional....from the food to the atmosphere to our waiter, Kerim! Kerim was magnificent in uncovering our wine tastes and recommended a perfect bottle that paired well with both of our dishes. The dining experience was personable! You must try cafe Provençal!
The food was outstanding and the server was excellent. My only suggestion is that the entrees needed to come out a little faster after the starter. There were only a few diners the evening we were there and there was more than 1/2 an hour after we finished our starter before the entrees arrived. Must say it was worth the wait as the food was impeccable.
One of the best kept secrets in WIlliamsburg, VA. The entire staff is friendly, courteous and helpful...they know what it means to provide "service" in a fine dining establishment. Karim, our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu selections and guided us to a wonderful meal and accompanying wines. The chef prepared a special appetizer for us when we asked if it could be done.... All four of us have lived and traveled abroad extensively and I would put Cafe Provencale up against any four or five star restaurant anywhere.....but not nearly as snooty or ostentatious as some places. We highly recommend Cafe Provencale for a special occasion or just a quiet get together with friends. Superb wine list and service....
We brought friends for a special evening out and everything was perfect. Our server, Kerim, was very attentive and offered worthwhile suggestions; not the usual "everything is good" that is not helpful. The food was excellent and cooked exactly as requested.
Really lovely restaurant on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery. Food was amazing. Cooked perfectly. Extremely quiet place, which made our table of 4 feel very loud. Service was outstanding. We had the delicious cheese board- which could have included more bread. There was not enough for each person to have 2 small pieces. Otherwise the serving sizes were good. Filet mignon was incredible, tender and flavorful. The scallops were likewise outstanding. The pork loin Special was equally good and the trout was clearly fresh.
First of all I was accomadated for an earlier meal. My reservation was for 7:30 and I was early. The restaurant made the change without any fuss. The waiter was wonderful with his suggestions and made the meal a very pleasent exprerience. Overall we would return if and when we are in the area again. The food was not hurried and the ambiance was very relaxed.
A bit pricey but the food was delicious. We were particularly impressed how we had three filets ordered at different temps, and each one was cooked to perfection. The waitstaff is helpful friendly and attentive with good suggestions. A very enjoyable evening for my mother’s 79th birthday.
Located at the Williamsburg winery, and much more than a “cafe,” Provencal is well worth the 5 mile drive from the main part of Williamsburg for a romantic and highly satisfying dinner! From the superb freshly baked bread to the yummy blackberry tart and honey custard, the food was a delightful surprise. The French onion soup was a kind of deconstructed cream version that was extraordinary. Main courses were very good, and garnishes and vegetables quite delicious. artful and creative. The wine list goes well beyond the winery’s own makings. Service was attentive and efficient. You will use your brights on the remote winery road at night. Arrive at the building and wind around inside to the right to find the elevator down to the quiet and attractive dining room where you will be surprised at the high standard of cuisine and very satisfying evening.
Cafe Provençal was wonderful. We were greeted by our server with two glasses of champagne and he wished us a Happy Anniversary. Nice touch!
Food was outstanding. We had the tasting menu. All very small but delicious. We shared the five courses but it was plenty of food. Our server was great. He was kind and attentive.
The chairs were comfy and we had a nice view of he pool.
We would recommend to all our friends.
Great meal - food is exceptional. Service is amazing - our server was well-informed and attentive. Only complaint is dinner was over before we knew it - wish it could have gone on all night. The score in value is merely reflecting the price. The portions are small (but right sized for how we should eat) but the prices are not. Still amazing food!!
Our dining experience was very nice. The food was well prepared with a generous serving. The server was very attentive and amiable. There was perhaps too much time lapse after our orders were placed and when we were served. Aside from the restaurant , I would suggest that the condition of the driveway area should be improved....too many potholes and bumpy surface which gives a poor 'first impression" upon arriving.
The restaurant was quiet which is why I said romantic. I just went with a friend to try it. I had the duck and it was very good. He had the scallops and said they were fine but that he felt there were too many different flavors "fighting each other". The service was good. They were very attentive. I would recommend this restaurant.
We discovered Cafe Provençal a few years ago. We held our daughter's family celebration here in a private room after she graduated from William and Mary. Service was impeccable, food was excellent and the whole environment felt very special. Now, a visit to Williamsburg is not complete without dining here. Highly recommend!
What a delightful surprise! Came on a recommendation and exceeded expectations. Kind of a foodie having grown up in the Napa Valley, where the Culinary Institute was in my backyard. Where farm to table was the norm not a speciality. So here's this out-of-the way "cafe" where the food was creative, flavorful and attention made to every detail from presentation to service. I don't have to meet this chef to know they are well trained. Every course was perfectly timed to the table to make it one of the most pleasurable dining experiences I've had in VA. When I want something special in the future, I'm going to think of this restaurant!
Think we're going to make this a monthly destination! Very impressed by the staff and food. Evidently one of the managers left recently (we miss you, Noreen!), but things seem to be holding up just fine. Food was inventive and delicious. Farro with duck was delicious, and Risotto was incredibly flavorful. Keep up the good work!
Dined here last about three months ago. We were a little concerned about coming back after seeing a few of the recent reviews. Turns out we were wrong to trust what people write on the internet! We started off with a Butcher Board and Cheese Board- thought we'd need both after reading about small portion sizes. Terrible idea- MORE than enough food, would've been better off sharing one or the other. None of the portions we got looked enormous, but after 3 courses we were plenty full. Had soft shell crbas and steak as our mains- AMAZING! Produce was fresh and not overcooked, proteins were perfectly done, and presentation was outstanding. Restaurant was fairly busy on a Saturday night- the dining room is small and there was a large party down the hall, but service was efficient and friendly. Food wasn't fast, but at this level we would be suspicious if it WAS! Prices were fair- my wife and I both have a background in the restaurant business, and we know the markups necessary to be profitable. Nothing was close to overpriced- totally fair. A very pleasant experience, we'll be sure to visit on a weekday in the future to avoid the crowds.
I was a little disappointed in the overall evening. The food was adventurous but did not live upto the adventure. I had the Ribeye, and it did not have much flavor the potato under my steak was on the cold side and was definitely not fresh. My wife had the chicken and was pleased but not thrilled. The view out the window was fine but when you see things general upkeep it makes you wonder about other parts of the restaurant that may be neglected. The staff was friendly, but was not tentative enough for this restaurant. I think they were understaffed and lacking some training.
Noreen and gang do a great job at this beautiful venue and Ian Robbins is a fabulous chef taking advantage of local meats, produce and fruits to deliver exquisite meals. Service is impeccable and the setting is a "not to miss" location.
