Excellent food, service and view!!
We were seated immediately upon arrival, no wait. We had an ocean view table. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding menu items. Unfortunately, they were out of cannelloni, but all our entrees were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant during your stay on Kauai.
Great food and service
Although we had a reservation, we were the table that everyone forgot about. We didn’t get water until after our wine came - instead of getting water glasses like everyone else, we received beer glasses to pour our water in. No other table had beer glasses to pour their $5 water into but us. We had to remind staff several times just to get the included bread for the table - which came out along with our entrees about 45 minutes into our service. Several other tables around us got more prompt and attentive service. My “fresh” fish of the day was drowned in reheated piccata sauce that had no life left in it - just tasted like butter and cream instead of the bright sauce it’s supposed to be. The vegetables were clearly microwaved. We were made to feel like an afterthought by the service staff, and the kitchen followed suit. A pleasant dinner on the beach on our honeymoon is what we were expecting, but instead we paid a lot of money to walk out feeling disappointed and deflated.
It's Kauai, what can you say? Food was ok, location and view was AMAZING!! but lower your expectations for anything to be really good. They satisfy your craving for whatever it was that sounded good but it's a destination so keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. Go early to catch the sunset over the bay.
Lovely spot! Great food!
Thankful for a wonderful time
Been 15 years between visits and still amazing.
Loved it! Thank you
Very good food, but they were very clearly horribly understaffed. Looking forward to visiting again when things are closer to normal.
Two of us in the party ordered the lamb chops medium rare. First we noticed that one of the plates had 3 chops and the other had 4 chops - that seemed odd and unfair. Then we cut into them and realized they were well done - dark all the way through, nowhere close to medium rare. So we asked for them to be redone and they said it was the last two plates of lamb and we had to pick something else. So we ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It took 45 minutes to get the redone plates while everyone else in our party was done with their meal, and the birthday girl already had her cake. We were still eating and the rest of our party left as we had been there so long. The manager offered us a discount to make up for it. Keep in mind the bill was almost $500 including 2 bottles of wine. The discount they brought was $9. Yes you read correctly- 9 measly dollars. After complaining (shouldn’t have had to) she increased the discount to be 50% of the two plates we had redone, which basically comp’ed one of them. Better but still not great. Not going back.
Great and friendly service!!! Delicious food!
Food was very good. View was excellent, great atmosphere. Service was just ok. We felt like maybe our waitress was new (not very warm/inviting, seemed flustered). Food took a while to come (I think all of Kauai is understaffed at the moment). We asked for some leftovers to be put in a to-go container and waited 15 minutes for them to come back. They never did. We asked the waitress and she said that is must have been thrown away. But she made good and the kitchen re-made the entire dish for us to take home (more than we had left over). I am gluten-free and dairy-free and there was only one thing on the menu for me (besides a salad if you left all the good stuff off). Lots of pasta for everyone else though! I'd go back for the food and atmosphere, and hopefully they will figure out the staffing soon...I think it is a problem all over Kauai to get employees right now (we saw a lot of "help wanted" signs all over the island).
A new experience for us after vacationing on Kauai for many years...SOOO GOOD, we ate there twice this last time!!
Our server was excellent and the food was delicious. The view over the ocean was beautiful. We especially liked the lasagna and the tiramisu. The harpist playing in the restaurant was an added bonus. The manager was very friendly. Great night!
Food was solid but overpriced. Had to ask after 15 minutes to order a drink. I ordered a Negroni, got Campari and soda with a cherry. Friend ordered Mojito. No mint, no problem. Asked for vodka with a lemon, got vodka with a lime. Two people ordered glasses of red wine. I said, “Wait! Let’s get a bottle!” Waiter gave me wine list then came back with the first two glasses of wine even though we’d just changed to a bottle. Staff kind but seemingly untrained. No one seemed to be watching the room through “manager’s eyes.” Almost $400 for 4 people with only one appetizer and one $65 bottle of wine. Food is solid but old school: if you put enough butter, salt and cream on something, it’ll be tasty. (Also, had no desserts or coffee.)
One of our favorite restaurants on the island of Kauai. Won’t be disappointed here.
We dined at Portofino three times while visiting Kauai. The food is EXCELLENT and the service was wonderful. Very nice outdoor dining with a view of the ocean in a great area. The manager, Kelly was very helpful and able to accommodate our large group on two visits. The lasagna and filet was amazing and save room for the sorbet.
The food was good. The bread basket was super tiny and almost left something missing and I wish they had a little more wine selection by the glass.
Food was horrible and not worth the money we spent.
Everything was great until food arrived. Tasted lousy. Need a real Italian chef
Pretty disappointed. Service was bad. Food was not that good and extremely overpriced.
We expected it to be overpriced considering how touristy the area is, but the food wasn’t even average. The pesto pasta was sitting in a half cup of oil (gross), the meatballs had gross vegetable stems inside, the steak was not cooked as ordered. Service wasn’t good - didn’t refill drinks or bring out bread, etc. This place doesn’t live up to the prices.
The best thing is the patio. Service was very slow. Food was ok.
Nice to eat in a open setting food was ok.
Perfect place for celebration and dining! Friendly staff, amazing and delicious food! Enjoyed our evening and food! Highly recommend 👍
One of the best places where you can feel the real Italy and experience the taste of outstanding Italian food! Amazing food, service, live music! Compliments to the Chef and to the owner of the place! You do a great job! People, who have taste and understand what the real food tastes like, this is definitely your place, where you feel yourself like in Italy! We had just amazing family evening! Tanti complimenti!
Great food, great service. Very enjoyable
The food was incredible, service was awesome and they helped accommodate a person with food allergies so kindly.
Poor, inattentive service, dirty bread plates, unseasoned food, great view, ok calamari. Do yourself a favor and skip it.
Lovely Italian experience
Average food and service. View is pretty nice.
Nubia was a very attentive server. The food was great as always.
Great location, food and ambiance.
Waitress was doing her best at the 50min wait mark for our food. Also, it was all ruined by the rudeness of the owner. Very unpleasant booking, not flexible and he cant even look at you in the eyes when you speak to him.
I recommend it but... be prepared to have to encounter him.
Awesome food and service!!
Always enjoy dinner at Portofino. Overlooking beautiful Kalapaki Bay on the patio, as no indoor dining available yet.
Food as always delicious!
Great food great table
Simple meal of pizza and salads. Both were well done, and delicious. Of course the wine was also excellent. Kelly took excellent care of us and Giuseppe was a warm and gracious host.
Our usual last night on the island and is didn't disappoint. Was very good. The food was excellent, the service quick and of course being just above the beach is lovely. No complaints. Would recommend.
Food was not very good. Marinara sauce was bad. Service was fair. Greeting person, probably the proprietor was not social or nice greeting. Took 3-4 bites of food and no more.
We were staying at Marriott Beach Club. We ate at restaurant twice however, service was poor both times. Forgot husbands drink, after we asked twice. No bread served first time.
The setting was lovely, the service attentive and professional. The food quality was just so-so.
My husband ordered the pasta special and hardly got any pasta.
We will not go back.
