Delicious meal. Highly recommend! Would eat here again!
It was a pleasant dining experience. My friend and I each had the Cacctitorre and it was good but would have been better over pasta.
Not sure what the point of having a reservation is for. We checked in for our table for 5 people and (in a mostly empty restaurant) had to haggle for a decent table. No advanced thought or consideration was put into our table at all. It was like we simply walked up without a prior reservation. The host wanted to seat us at the very back of the deck even though there were plenty of empty tables on the deck with a better view. We had to insist on a better table. Again, this was a mostly empty restaurant at the time of our arrival. Please tell me again what the point of having an advanced reservation is for???
Will never eat here again. And, will never recommend to anybody.
Dined twice- both times alone (in Kauai on business). First night all was excellent. 2nd time, was seated promptly but waited 15 minutes and finally had to ask maitre'd if I could please have waitstaff come to my table for service as I was rather hungry. Beautiful ambiance with harpist and glorious views but would recommend to be at least a party of two.
Awesome views of the ocean, & outdoor eating is great.
Dishes are rather pricey- I feel like guests are taken advantage of due to the fact that the restaurant is on resort grounds, so the prices are jacked up,
The Food, Wine and Presentation was very good. The service was good. We were not sure if our Waitress was new, very soft spoken and we could barely hear her, but a nice personality. The dinner was above moderately priced. We enjoyed the dinner very much.
We arrived at 6:45p it took 10 minutes for anyone to come to our table to serve us water. It then took another 10 minutes before our waitress came over to speak with us. When she did arrive she read through the specials very quickly and then asked if we knew what we wanted. She was terrible at customer service. It took an hour to get our food and they all came out at different times. Two in our party were half done before the last dinner was even brought out. Our waitress never apologized for the inconvenience and she did not even acknowledge that we had been waiting for a long time. Very unprofessional. By the time we got our check we had been there for two hours for 3 people to eat. Horrible! When we left we told the guy at the front about it and he apologized and said he would take care of us next time. Well to say the least there will be NO next time!
This is a really nice waterfront Italian restaurant with a great menu selection and a very nice wine list. Our server Becky was knowledgeable and attentive and very nice to us. The live harp music was a very nice touch. we thought that all of our dishes were unique and very delicious and came out hot and the portions were very large. A really nice wine by the glass selection and their wines by the bottle selection is extensive. Sitting by the oceanfront was a definite plus at this place. we had a little trepidation coming here because some of the reviews mentioned small portions and bad service. That was not our experience at all and we would recommend this place for dinner.
This was such a disappointing dinner...especially for the price. We came there with our kids for our anniversary. The only thing that was good about it was the view. The drinks were terrible. We had to send the martini back because it was half vermouth and awful. The second one came back half full. The food was barely acceptable. We ordered a medium rare steak and it came out well done. Very frustrating for a $40 meal. The service was very very slow. We seemed to be a bother.
Ordered the lasagna, but it was only slightly warm and had some cold spots. They brought a new piece that was hot and tasty.
Nice but a bit pricey
We made reservations, and when we were greeted by the host, he looked at us like we had violated some dining code of ethics. We were seated at a very nice table on the patio which overlooks the ocean; which was very nice. The waitress was either inexperienced, had too many tables or both because she seemed to rush through the order-taking process. My husband and I both ordered the same glass of wine; however it was clear that the wine poured into my glass had been in the bottle too long without being stored properly. We had to ask for bread twice and never received it. I think if an Italian restaurant has oil and vinegar on the table it should be a priority for the guests to receive bread. We also had to ask for another glass of wine twice; which arrived just as we were finishing dinner. I know eating out is expensive in Hawaii, but for the prices charged at Café Portofino, they should staff up to ensure the guests have a good dining experience. The food was average - nothing to brag about. I would not return.
Overall it was a good experience. The food was good but a little overpriced. The service was really great and view of the ocean was breathtaking. We would go back next time in town.
Amazing service and amazing food!
Great view, good food
Evidently this restaurant is hit or miss. Returned to eat here because the first time was nice. If this had been the first time to eat here, I would not return. Crab Lobster bisque was the worst I’ve ever had. Couldn’t eat it, told the server, the whole bowl minus 3 spoonfuls was taken from the table still had to pay for it anyway. Service was definitely not up to par. I waited to order to allow a female companion at the table to order before me. As she started to say her order the server cut her off and asked me if I knew what I wanted because she stated she wanted to take the order around the table. WOW! I’m paying for the meal not the server. But she clearly had no desire to be there. Not to worry. I have no desire to return.
Food was good, and the service was exceptionally good. Prices were reasonable considering location and proximity to Marriott.
One of my very favorite places. Great food and beautiful view of Kalapaki Bay.
Service was as excellent. Food sounded good but everything we ordered was very bland with no flavor. Even the calarmari which seems pretty straight forward was kind of soft and the dipping sauce tasted like canned tomato paste. Would not go back again, save your money and eat next door with the same amazing view
Waited 2 hours for our food. Lobster over cooked, pastas for kids had no flavor, No Presentation of plates., rack of lamb was not full rack. With my husband being a cook for 15+ years in a hotel/restaurant, he would know all about these.. sadly he was disappointed. We felt that they catered more to tourist than locals. It’s very sad but will never go back.
We had a very bad server. She single handedly degraded our otherwise good experience with the ambience and food.
1. She brought out our main course even before we were half finished with our soup and appetizers. She left the dish sitting at the edge of our table.
2. She brought out our after dinner cappuccino with no coffee spoon and sugar.
3. We had to ask for a pen to sign our check (not a big deal).
4. This last part is unbelievable and is the worst part of our experience: as I went to use the bathroom, she left a small deck of dirty plates with bones from another table’s osso buco on our table, right in front of my seat. My wife didn’t notice it until I asked her why all these pieces of bones are in front of my seat. This could believe what had happened !!! BTW, we were not rude or disrespectful. It was such a strange experience.
The bus lady was much more attentive in refilling drinks.
I love the music performance.
Cafe Portofino- Marriott Kauai was one of the best experiences I had in Kauai. The staff was very nice and the experience superb! Would definitely go back!
Just Great! We dine here every time we are on Kauai.
Did not really need the reservation as when we got there it was wide open however the food was excellent Service was excellent prices were a bit high. Everything in Hawaii is a bit high so there is nothing to compare it to Definitely one of our choices for when we want to eat out at a really nice place with a great view Parking lot could definitely use a Paving Or having the potholes filled 😆
Another great dinner at Cafe Portofino! We have been here before and have always had outstanding food and service. The view is also hard to beat!
Outstanding view of the ocean. Great service, very attentive. Dinner meals were fantastic. Plenty of food. Price for dinner was appropriate for the quality. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and music. A must dinner stop. Classy!
The food was great
The service was outstanding.
The setting beautiful, but on a still night, attacked by termites.
We enjoyed a fabulous meal with beautiful harp music playing throughout our dinner. The food was wonderful, especially the fried mozzarella and the spaghetti and meatballs. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful. This is a beautiful setting looking out over the ocean.
The location is amazing. My biggest complaint is that we both ordered a martini on the rocks. Our server even repeated it back to us. When they came out they were up, not on the rocks. This seems to be a recurring theme. My other complaint is the veal Marsala was on the dry side. Other than that it was a nice evening.
Great dinner and ambiance for our anniversary... beautiful sunset location
Location is excellent with fantastic view of the bay and walking distance from the Marriott Resort. Service is good. Salad was good but entree of local fish was overcooked. Prices are not cheap but charging for each refill of soda was. Dessert was three small scoops of ice cream and not worth it. Overall good for convenience and view.
Excellent food and service
This was probably our 5th time there, at least, and we went twice on this trip. Good pasta. Not sure about meat dishes but the marinara and alfredo were both very good. Service is always nice and the harp player is delightful. You can't get a better view than here. Restaurant looks right out over Nawiliwili Bay. If you're staying at the Marriott, it's a 2 minute walk to the restaurant. No need to get into a car. Very nice evening
Beautiful outdoor view of the ocean. Homemade pasta was authentic Italian and excellent.
The menu showed pizza however we were told it was only available downstairs in their pizzeria and they wouldn’t bring it up to the restaurant The menu also listed a few fishes. My daughter went for the Opa which they didn’t actually have. They only had 1 of the 5 fishes listed on the menu. We ended up leaving because they didn’t have what 2/3 of us had planned to order.
The food and the service was excellent. The waitress was excellent. This is not our first time. That why we keep coming back.
The atmosphere was perfect for a nice dining experience. The food was not good. The fettuccine noodles were identical to to store bought egg noodles in a bag. I was shocked. We had two veal dishes. Both tougher than skirt steak. Likely due to meal preparation as opposed to food quality but hard to gauge considering I have never had tough veal before. We brought it to the owners attention who decided to educate us on there actually being no problem and that it is suppose to be both fat, tuff and full of leaders. Real shame given the potential in light of the restaurants location. We ate next door at Dukes a few times and would certainly recommend it as an alternative, until the food quality improves.
I took time to meet the owner, Gino, and he was gracious. This was the best Italian meal I have ever eaten outside of our family dishes. I just wish there was another one near my home!
The service was awful. My husband asked the manager if they could do a little something since it was my birthday. Not only did they not acknowledge it they pretty much ignored us when we left. Such a pretty location but we won’t be back.
Skip it. While the atmosphere is very nice, food and service left much to be desired.
All the food tasted as if it were purchased from a grocery store frozen section. I really wonder if any of it is actually home made.
We ordered Fried Mozzarella for an appetizer. It was like $14, and no joke it looked exactly like the kind you buy in the froze section. It wasn't browned, the cheese was hard on the inside.
Drinks took a long time and our server, while friendly, never checked on us to see if we needed drinks or if the food was good.
The meal itself was equally bland. My wife had veal parmigiana and you couldn't taste the veal at all. All you could taste was salt, cheese, and the marinara sauce. It was a huge pile of food, lukewarm, and basically just tasted bland.
Skip it, and order a pizza across the road at Pietro's instead, or if you want to go for a drive, head down to Poipu and hit up The Beach House, which was probably a top 5 dining experience I have ever had.
