Food was fantastic!
Friendly service great staff good food
Our waitress Annie was one of the worst waitresses I’ve ever had the displeasure of being served by. She had a terrible attitude from the start. Didn’t ask if we wanted anything else to drink, didn’t tell us the specials, didn’t bring us bread and barely every acknowledged that we were sitting there. She tried to rush us through our salads so we would order and blamed her busser for us not having water or bread. I had a 25% off an entree from Open Table, which she fought me on but eventually applied to the bill. She then slammed the bill back on the table and circled the section where the tip dollar amounts were. It was completely disrespectful and i felt like she didn’t want us there or to be there herself. The food was decent and the view was incredible but her attitude was atrocious.
Our table was well located on the outside overlooking the ocean. The food was extremely good. Our server was attentive. Fantastic overall experience, with one complaint. Just an FYI, Open Table showed a 25% off discount dining between 5-6 pm on the second entree. We had a reservation for 5, but our discount was not given until we asked. The server had to go back twice to try to get the discount applied. In the end it was, but know it took asking and some time to complete.
Ambiance and service fine. Food was not as good as my expectations.
The service was terrible. We waited forever for a water refill (had to ask 3 times!!), were served appetizers with no plates for sharing (we had to ask twice and waited 5 minutes while our hot appetizers got cold). Additionally, our waiter was incredibly rude and acted like we were putting him out by asking for anything (the basics that should have been provided automatically). We eat out all the time, are a friendly family and low maintenance so to be treated so rudely after not receiving the basics was just unbelievable.
Additionally, it was incredibly hot in the outdoor seating area. The outdoor air (outside of their plastic awning had to be 10-15 degrees cooler than where we were sitting under the awning with no breeze and no fan).
The food was good (their scallops appetizer dish was actually delicious) and the harp music was lovely, but it didn’t make up for the rude behavior of our server and the complete lack of service. It’s not worth it. Plenty of better choices on the island.
Had a wonderful dinner our last night on Kauai with friends. We sat at a lovely waterside table. The food and wine were delicious. Our waiter, Jason, was attentive and friendly.
This is an outstanding Italian Restaurant, which specializes in seafood. The seafood is served based on what is available. The wine list is good and the food is outstanding. My wife and I had a wonderful meal. The views of the ocean are great and seating is available inside and outside.
Weird olives in my vodka martini, otherwise great
Wonderful outdoor setting with a great ocean view!
Entrees were delicious...my friend really enjoyed the catch of the day!
My only small complaint is that I wish Cafe Portofino offered a better wines-by-the glass selection.
It was a bit hot because we were seated outside. other than that, the Service, food and desserts were amazing. You won’t regret it.
Great dinning experience
Could use some fans on the deck, but food was delicious and a very nice view.
So disappointed! We have dined here at least a dozen times and always had an excellent experience. Giuseppe was not here nor was the harp player- completely different vibe and not a positive. Gorgeous view from outdoor deck and food was excellent. Our server Jason did not seem interested in taking cate if us. Never came to see how dinner was, or if we wanted another glass of wine, we had to ask for bread, and he did not give us the 25% discount off second entree which our reservation was made under. We walked away with a different feeling last night, not a good one.
Incredible food, atmosphere and service
Excellent location overlooking the harbor bay, I have experience many restaurants in our 15 day trip, this in my mind the best and favorite. Harp musician play during the evening, closed the rest down, excellent wine list and tasty menu.
Met and "welcomed" by a surly waiter. Food service was rushed, made to feel uncomfortable. Would not go again and advised other hotel guests not to go. We had similar feedback from other guests.
Compared to the other restaurants at the resort which we have eaten at and enjoyed, this was poor by comparison.
Our dinner at Cafe Portofino was one of my favorites throughout our entire honeymoon, and this is coming from a couple who each gained 7 lbs during a 9 day trip from eating to our hearts' desires. My husband, a vegetarian, had a delicious eggplant parmesan and cleared his plate faster than I'd ever seen him it was that tasty. He said there's two ways to do eggplant parm, and they did it the right way deliciously. I on the other hand enjoyed the largest lobster tail I'd ever had at 12 ounces with a delicious medium rare filet mignon (the surf and turf special of the night). I also nearly made the clean plate club but was honestly so stuffed I left a few delicious veggies. As a fan and probably too frequent taster of both, the lobster tail and filet were so delicious and if we're lucky enough to venture back to Kauai soon we'll be sure to return to Cafe Portofino. Also, our waitress was the sweetest and I feel terrible for not remembering her name now but she caught on to my Chicago accent and bonded with us over the Midwest and their brief stay in the city the year before. She was so attentive and great!
What wonderful way to end our trip to Kauai. A hidden gem on a cove of paradise. Best spot to dine before heading to Lihue airport.
Service was excellent. Ambience and menu options were good. Our escargots were not quite as flavourful as we are used to enjoying. The veal piccata was very good but the veal masala was a little bland for my taste buds.
Loved the food service. Bartender waitress and harp!
We loved everything we ordered. Calamari & mozzarella sticks shrimp pasta. Yummy. Romantic & reasonably priced.
On vacation with my son
We were there to celebrate a birthday.
Cafe Portofino is our go-to dining experience for authentic Italian food when visiting Kauai. Be sure to check out their new pizzeria! The best pizza on the island in my opinion.
We have visited Portofino's each of our last 3 visits to Kuai. My wife loves the eggplant. Definitely NOT up to par this visit. My wife left 3/4 of her meal with little concern to either the wait staff or management. VERY disappointing!
We had the best time and the best dinner at Cafe Portifino! The owner warmly greeted us and seated us at a fabulous table overlooking the sea. Our server, Maria, explained the menu and made suggestions when I asked. She was very friendly and made us feel welcome. I had the Mong Chong, which is a wonderful white deep sea fish prepared excellently in a piccata sauce by the chef. My husband had spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce was magnifico! I would eat there every day if I could. Also, there was a gentleman playing the harp while we ate. He lent a wonderful, romantic ambiance to our dinner.
Eccezionale tutto. Dalla location, ai piatti, al servizio. Gentilissimo il titolare (Giuseppe). E molto gentili e cortesi anche le cameriere. Non c’è migliore ristorante in tutta l’isola.
Quick service, friendly staff and excellent food! Highly recommend!
Drinking wine, watching the sunset in Hawaii, and eating the best lasagna you have ever had...I mean what more could you ask for in life?
This is an excellent restaurant on the property of the Kauai Marriott hotel. It has very personable service. All of the seafood options are very good and pasta is of excellent quality. I ate here three times during an eight day vacation and the Shrimp Scampi Al Limone was my favorite. Save room for the Tiramisu, it rivals one that I had in Paris, France!
Horrible experience. First the good - my appetizer and my wife’s were good and dessert was delicious. Now the bad - we sat down at 6:30, ordered a bottle of wine. Waitress came by and we ordered appetizer and meal. Appetizer came and within 5 minutes our meal came. We had barely started eating our appetizers. We both had fish, my wife’s was cooked well and mine was raw in the middle. Waitress asked if she could take it back for some additional cooking however at that point I was not interested. She rushed us to order dessert which we eventually did and shortly after eating dessert she came by and announced “we need this table for another reservation (it was only 7:30, we had only been there an hour). Feel like we were kicked out after paying a 170.00 bill. Do not go to this restaurant, Dukes is next door and it is much better. I travel and entertain extensively for business and I’ve never been treated so rudely.
Mediocre all around
Service was not great. Food was okay.
Very helpful. Great service for families. Kids loved their meals and adult options were also very good. Wonderful view and ambiance. Perfect for families or a romantic dinner.
Been coming here each year for over 25 years and have never been disappointed. Giuseppe continues to impress with consistently exceptional cuisine in a beautiful setting overlooking Kanipali Bay.
Ambiance is very nice, a very romantic setting, but the food was not great. I would not recommend the lasagna, the sauce was definitely not homemade and tasted like a freezer lasagna.
Waitress didn’t come back to check on us after food was delivered and overcharged is $10 for our meal. Our son had ordered a side of pasta marinara with dinner and she forgot and gave him veggies. We asked for the pasta so she charged $10 for a side of pasta. Food was mediocre and not worth prices charged.
Some amazing food. But dissapointong veal marsala that tasted like leather in a fabulous sauce
Waitress should have take them away and replaced it.
