Cafe Pacific Ratings and Reviews
We had not been to Cafe Pacific for a few years, not sure why, so we made reservations for a nice Saturday night dinner. We had a wonderful meal and a nice evening. The service was outstanding and our meals were perfect. We ordered the scallops and sea bass...both were cooked perfectly and the accompanying risotto was terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and highly recommend Cafe Pacific.
This restaurant is among the last of the old school. The crowd is mostly well-heeled Highland Park regulars, though the place has an open and welcoming feel to all comers. The Ladies who Lunch crowd make for great people watching. Waiters are distinguished older gentlemen in starched white coats and aprons who strike the perfect balance in all things. The owners and maitre d’ are much in evidence and make the rounds just enough to let you know you matter. The food is outstanding. Take what the waiter recommends and order it the way he likes it. You won’t go wrong. I recommend the daily selection of fresh seafood prepared any number of ways, the lump crab in remoulade sauce, & the bone-in veal chop. There are no weaknesses in this menu. Whenever we are in town, we run through all the restaurants online and then go to Cafe Pacific.
Let's just say that the starter (sweet potato strings) and the ending (pecan ball) are enough to get a great review from me. The Calamari was among the best I've ever had. Gumbo was the only let-down. Unidentifiable as gumbo (turtle soup, maybe?). Sole Amandine was lovely as always. The service was above reproach.
I have dined at Cafe Pacific more times than I can remember. This was a very odd experience. My sisters and I went for Sunday lunch, but we were given the dinner menu. We had already placed our order when we noticed the table next to us received eggs benedict, crepes & other brunch dishes. "We didn't see those dishes on our menu" we said to the waiter and that's when he said we'd received the dinner menus. They are completely different menus and he didn't even notice when I pointed at the item I wanted to order! He thanked us for having a good sense of humor about it, but did nothing to see if we wanted to change our orders. My sister & I had the trout which laid on a pile of white rice and the blandest varicort verts I've ever had. My other sister had the shrimp 'n grits and the shrimp were very overcooked. I'll go back, but I'll make sure I get the correct menu!
Our waiter, Walter (or Francisco?), was personable, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good, especially the crab cakes and key lime tart. The restaurant was very busy, with an eclectic group of diners that made people watching fun. The entire staff was friendly and attentive; we felt welcome and never rushed.
Although we no longer live in Dallas, we had dinner at Cafe Pacific on a recent return trip. Always a favorite. Unfortunately, had to wait one hr for a table (with reservations) but received complimentary calamari while waiting.
Definitely will b back on our next visit, would not want to miss it.
The food is always great here. It took our waiter 20 minutes to figure out the Italian white we wanted was not in their cellar. I've decided this is the last time I'll go for dinner since the service is so inconsistent. Lunch time is great and I will continue to eat here for lunch.
