Café on the Green Ratings and Reviews
Easter dinner was prix fix for 5 courses. Course 1 was listed as bread. A small plate with 3 small fingers of toast plus a dressing was placed on the table to be shared by 3. Was this an error or should we have had 3 plates? Salad was nothing special - no field greens or additions, just romaine. Entrees were very good as were desserts. Service quite slow. Price of $60/pp excessive for this meal, no mimosa or cocktail included as is the case with most holiday brunch/lunch. I would give this one more try on a non holiday to compare value.
I went there for Easter dinner w/my family.
The service was overwhelming at the start but soon tapered off to the point that we were left for long periods w/out anyone bringing our orders or just stopping by to ask if everything was all right and did we need anything. The price-fixe dinner at $60 p/p sounded good but the portions were very small; it looked like one of our guests had received a piece of cake that had been cut in half. The wine glasses were HUGE but the amount of wine they contained looked small. I see no point in having over-size wine glasses unless you get a matching amount of wine, which seemed expensive for a house wine. For the most part my guests agreed with my analysis of the meal as we discussed it in the car on the drive home and later on. I don't plan on going to this place again nor recommending it to anyone else. "Café on the Green" is decidedly NOT "Tavern on the Green"!
This was one of the most boring, overpriced meals I have had in a long time. They offered, what they dubbed, a 5 course prix fixe menu for Easter lunch. Garlic bread sticks was the first course followed by a choice of stuffed risotto balls or penne a la vodka. Then came a salad that consisted of some leaves with 2 slices of tomatoes and 2 slices of cucumber...boring! The lamb and the fillet were good, but the red snapper was as bland as hospital food. All meals were accompanied by a side of mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables...total lack of imagination, could have made it better at home! Dessert was the best part of the meal...lava cake, chocolate mousse cake and crème brulee were delicious. All this for $60 a person...no drinks included.
To top it all off the whole meal was rushed, from start to finish 1hour 15 minutes, served one course after the other, as soon as we put the forks down the next dish came.
Final check included 21% gratuity, no questions asked.
Have wanted to try this place for years. It's on a golf course. We had a window seat so we had a nice view. There were only 4 other tables full the entire evening. I liked the ambience however there were a few children @ the tables (1 crying baby) but when they left it was perfect. Service was extremely attentive. My husband got the lamb which he loved & I had the snapper special. It had a sauce on it that was ok however I prefer the seafood stands by itself. Dessert was good.
We've been to this restaurant several times and it's always excellent, with great service. It's one of our "go-to" places. The dining room is lovely; the staff is always pleasant and the service is always excellent. They have a very nice regular menu with wonderful specials.
Service is always the best (thank you Luis) and reliable, and the food is always very good - try the rack of lamb which is done to taste. The wine list is great and the choices for dessert are varied and delicious. I would rank this restaurant as the best overall in Danbury, CT.
This was a Valentine day dinner that had to be rescheduled due to severe weather the week earlier. When we arrived. The restaurant was empty except for two tables. We were seated at the smallest table by the window. I just went with it. We ordered a bottle of wine and a appetizer that we shared. They split it and served us two dishes which I thought was nice. Than came the salad. The restaurant had very dim lighting. I had tossed it a bit and took my first fork full. I immediately felt a long hair in my mouth. I pulled it out and tossed it in the dish. I called the matradi. He apologized and continued with a joke. Bad move! He said "when a woman sees a hair on the table she freaks out. But then realizes it is hers. They brought me a new salad and he said it again. I had the veal saltimbocca. The veal was dry and the prosiutto was hard like cardboard. They didn't offer us a thing for my terrible experience. It was like it never happened. I even told him the hair was in my mouth. Needless to say we will never go back. Sorry this is long, but I wanted you to to feel what happened right from the beginning.
Always a great experience. Complete attention to details and customer preferences. Manager even found one of our favorite wines in the cellar that was not listed on the menu for us. Wait staff, best in the business. We are frequent diners here and can't wait to go back again! Thanks to all!
I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The food is absolutely fantastic, the staff is so accommodating and they go out of their way to give you the best service. It's the perfect place to go for any event or occasion. I go here frequently because I've never had a bad meal or bad service. Overall I give them a 11 out of 10 every time.
I have been to Café on the Green several times now in the past few months and everytime the service and food has been impeccable. The dinning room is always beautifully done and no matter what the weather the views are lovely. The waiters are very attentive and the food delicious.
My wife and I go to Cafe on the Green once a year with a gift card given to us by a friend. We usually go on a quiet week day to have an early dinner when the restaurant is not that busy yet.
The food is outstanding and so is the service. I highly recommend it.
This is our second year coming here for our wedding anniversary. We felt like we were in a timp warp because everything was EXACTLY the same; from the decor, the staff, the food, the SAME 5 star!! As we had first stated last year, we must say again that this restaurant is inpeccable, professional, elegant, worthy of everything once again. The food is outstanding. The decor was so pretty for this time of year. The prices are reasonable. The staff are very friendly and professional. We had an easy time making reservations. This could easily be a "favorite". We are honestly thinking of bringing the family back for either Easter or Mother's Day. This is a true gem in every sense of the word; we would very highly recommend on every level and we cannot rule out that this will be our restaurant for another anniversary in 2017! Job VERY VERY well done!!
Who would have thought there could be such classy Italian restaurant in the sticks of Danbury?
Great food and atmosphere, great for any type of occasion, white linens, superb view, reasonably priced, one can bring anyone there, your friends from big cities will be impressed, will be coming back for sure.
