Nicely presented buffet with vegan, vegetarian and regular offerings.
Been here for dinner several times and never disappointed with food or service. Can be crowded on weekends so try a reservation for a little peace of mind! Give it a try!
Neighborhood gem that keeps getting better and better!
Neighborhood Indian restaurant, very nice people, food inexpensive and very good. frequent on-line coupons and specials. a real winner !
Salmon and vegetarian dishes we had were good but fairly small portions in my opinion
Delicious food and very attentive staff. Definitely order the crackling spinach as an appetizer!
We have mixed reviews. The restaurant was quiet - but almost too much so (it would be nice if it had a bit more life). Service was good. My meal was very good but my dining partner's meal was not as advertised.
The restaurant is nicely situated on Wisconsin avenue not far from touristy areas. The food and service is very good. There are several Vegan options available too.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is unfailingly delicious and the service is very professional and also welcoming. Some of our favorite dishes are the crackling spinach, salmon tikka, kava eggplant, and the Punjabi tikki chat.
This was my second Visit to Cafe of India in less than a week and this restaurant is a perennial winner. I had the Murgh Kebab (ground, spiced chicken) and my companion had the salmon kebab as entrees. Neither disappointed! Let me also say this: I am not a fan of fish, but the salmon was so perfectly spiced and cooked in the tandoor that I must say it was one of the best pieces of fish I've ever tried. This place is a winner no matter what you order!
Cafe of India is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food is authentic, the service is attentive, and the cocktails are well-made and inexpensive for DC.
We ended up sitting as the only table upstairs across from a 20+ group celebrating a birthday that was very loud group making it hard to hear our conversation. Food was good but nan tasted more like pita.
Authentic Indian cuisine with good menu, courteous service, and reasonable prices. Highly recommend for date night, small group and special occasions. Crispy spinach not to be missed!
Excellent food and prompt, attentive service. Always has been a very positive experience. Give it a try!
My family truly loves this place and will come back over and over. The interior is gorgeous with an amazing antique crystal chandelier and the artwork is stunning. The feel is cozy, but plenty of room and quiet with nice lighting. Our server was very friendly and helpful and made fantastic recommendations from a very difficult to choose from menu. I love that there were plenty of vegetarian and vegan options! I had a shrimp dish that came with an apricot sauce based on his recommendation.. and it was amazing, rich with the Indian spices we love but a little different from the regular dishes. You can tell there is chef creativity and flair along with the classics. You can make it affordable with just entrees, or go a little more extravagant for a celebration with apps and drinks. This place is very special, a gem!
Great food! And waiters are friendly. But they need more servers with more attentive and faster service.
The place was packed on Christmas night and the cooking and service and bar were in top form!
We went for Christmas Dinner. They made us feel welcome, and the food was plentiful and good. It turned out to be a very good choice. Several of our party had never been to an Indian restaurant before, including a picky ten-year old who loved the food.
They are very good at mentioning the gluten in foods, so I wish they'd follow suit with the lactose.
Excellent, wide range of Indian cusine/ Have eaten here many times, never disappointed. Give them a try!
Nice, quaint restaurant. Ideal food portions, enough for one person. Good price points. I would go back.
My girlfriend and I bring our daughters almost Monthly (husbands not so into Indian food) and we love this relaxing place with delicious food. The girls love the lamb dishes and of course the naan. Service is always top notch and polite.. helpful with questions. We love that we can walk and seems like the place has a nice loyal following.
Delicious appetizers and entrees. Attentive, yet non-intrusive service. A neighborhood gem!
Aside from not being able to use our
groupon ☹️because it was a Fri night, everything was delicious!!!
Our favorite Indian restaurant. Their crackling spinach is better than Rasika's.
We like this cozy and comfortable neighborhood Indian restaurant. Good food and service at a reasonable price.
Nice staff. Quick service . Tasty food. Great salmon tikka
Cafe of India is my favorite Indian restaurant in this area and I revel in introducing friends to their fantastic Crackling Spinach. It is much better here than in competing restaurants! Wednesday, with a friend from Florida we found a Diwali festival of food in the buffet line. It was wonderful, and she loved the spinach too!
A useful OpenTable review criterion could be "The food at this restaurant tastes GOOD." I would check that box for this restaurant.
Best Indian food in DC. The ambiance is perfect, the servers are friendly and attentive, and you won't find a better lamb and spinach dish. A+
A civilized addition to the local scene
While there are many restaurants in the Friendship Heights area, Cafe of India is one of the few where it is possible to get food food in a quiet, comfortable booth. The service here is impeccable, with plenty of welcome advice--such as a recommendation for a tamarind-flavored marguerita, or a reminder that raita comes with the chutney--and a chance to try some of the classics of Indian cuisine. Reservations are recommended, since the tables fill quickly.
Very poor. Had eaten there many times. This time food very salty. Informed waiter and manager and the argued with me that it was not. Very insulting. Poor way to deal with regular customer.
Neighborhood jem. Great food. Service is so-so. You should get absolute clarification from the server on your order before he leaves. They brought the wrong dishes - similar to what we ordered and still excellent - but not what we ordered.
My friend and I really enjoyed Cafe of India. It was my first visit, and it was definitely worth the drive. The space was just large enough and the calm, quiet atmosphere was a welcome change from so many area restaurants. Our servers were polite, patient, and very helpful when it came time to order. And the food was SO delicious and beautifully presented! We both plan to go back to this restaurant in the very near future to try even more Indian dishes.
Great food and a professional and friendly wait staff. A real neighborhood gem!
The food is very nice and not too spicy. Service is generally very good - the staff is courteous and friendly. On this occasion, the served the starter and entree together, which I find unusual and has not happened there before. Altogether, a good experience and good value for money but missing the edge.
For all the talk of chic and expensive Indian restaurants in DC, the Cafe of India never disappoints. The service is impeccable, as it always is in India itself. The Crackling Spinach is the best I've had and one order isn't enough. We ordered lamb shaag, chicken tikka masala, and cauliflower and potatoes, with a break basket. It was perfect for four. While the decor is somewhat nondescript and the lighting not great the elegance of the service and quality of the food make up for it. Beware: At 8:30 on a Friday night, they were ticketing illegal parkers.
Service was attentive without being overbearing. Since one item required longer cooking than the others, the waiter brought a complimentary basket of papadam to tide us over. I tried the tandoori lamb chops as a change from my usual fare and was very pleasantly surprised by the perfect spiciness and flavor of the little chops. Very good value as well.
This is a great value if you enjoy Indian cuisine.
My only gripe with it is that the buffet is very hot (spicy). I used to enjoy food that would take the enamel off of dishes, but as I've gotten older, I found I couldn't eat much of it. I'd mix it up with cooler dishes, but unless you like the cuisine on the hot and spicy side, you may want to ask the guys there which ones aren't so tough on the pallet.
If the food was less spicy, I'd give it five stars in every category. I doubt I'll go there again for the buffet. I'll wait until I can order if off the menu.
loved chicken tikka masala 😀
Very nice place. Would have had higher reviews but the food was spicer than I expected and that made it hard to enjoy the food.
