Cafe of India
Great neighborhood gem with delicious cooking. Service is very nice and the quiet ambiance is a welcome respite from so many restaurants that are noisy.
My favorite Indian food in town.
Love Café of India. We continue to go back for our favorites and to explore new dishes.
Food was okay. Some of the chicken pieces were rubbery and not well cooked. Had much better Indian food
There are several Indian restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue NW now. The menu and seasonings at this one are somewhat more adventuresome, not just "standard." It's quite, pleasant, and reasonably priced. It is becoming a favorite.
Great Indian food, small neighborhood restaurant, very reasonable prices. One of our faves!
We go often, especially when they have specials, which they do often. It's a cozy comfortable place where you can hear yourself talk. The food is consistently good, as is the service. They are really nice people. Another big plus is easy on street parking. Good to make a reservation though on weekends anyway because it's small and fills up quickly at prime dinner times.
Thanks to the staff of Cafe of India. I forgot to read the fine print on my Groupon, which clearly stated “Friday and Saturday” excluded. The manager honored our coupon anyway. We were totally surprised and very pleased! Great food and exceptional service. We will be back. Tim and Gordon
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Easy street parking.
Excellent varied menu of mostly Northern Indian cuisine. Especially like the crackling spinach appetizer.
This is our favorite Indian restaurant, but this time it was not as good. Service was very slow and some of the food too spicy. First time we were disappointed.
Cafe of India is a neighborhood gem. Peaceful ambiance, great food, and good service.
I took my friend to the Cafe of India restaurant for her birthday because of all the wonderful reviews. We got to the restaurant and were mostly ignored by the staff. We had to repeatedly get up and ask for tea and if we were supposed to serve ourselves. We ate from the buffet because no one gave a menu. The dishes were fiery hot. I have eaten in numerous Indian restaurants and have had hot dishes and options for a milder spice. When I got up to ask the person behind the bar who I believe was the manager, if any of the dishes were milder. He got really arrogant and told me to look around that no one else had a problem and were all eating the food. We picked at our meals and then asked if we could order a mild dish of spinach. Well and hour later we asked them if they knew when we might get our spinach and they were annoyed with us for asking. They also had no naan for the first hour we were there. All in all this restaurant treated me and my friend horribly. The only person who was nice was the busboy. I ended up throwing away almost $50 for the meal and even worse was the constant insulting remarks. They should not be serving the public.
We go there often and are never disappointed. I get vegetarian most of the time but had a good scallop dish this time and an excellent shrimp appetizer. My friend had the same, she enjoyed it also. Their garlic naan is the best in the area. Prices are quite reasonable.
I like spicy food. But, these spices were even too much for me.
This place is small and intimate in feel. The service was attentive and the food was good and well-priced. One surprise is that they feature Indian wine, which my husband had and said was very good.
Reliably good grub complemented by attentive service
Delightful lunch buffet.
I dine at Café India a few times a year, often with friends. It's tasty, inexpensive, and conveniently located in Tenleytown, DC. The Naan Bread is my favorite.
Portions were average to small.
Flavor was decent in a few dishes and completely lacking in one dish.
High prices for condiments.
Always good, food and service, went on a special deal which was an exceptional value.
Always have enjoyed food at this cozy restaurant. Give it a try if you like,Indian food.
Went with friends. Staff was very friendly and attentive!
Exceptional food and friendly, attentive service. Try the Tamarind Margarita!
Food was delightful and service excellent. Small and quaint location.
they had few new items which other restaurants dont have. it was good.
Food is very good and prices are even better. Easy to park which is not always the case in DC. Would definitely recommend eating here.
Go there often; usually get vegetarian. This time tried shrimp coconut masala, which was very good (the spices came through nicely, none dominating). My friend had scallops with vegetables in a tomato based sauce, which had a nice kick to it but OK even for people who don't like really spicy food. The accompanying rice was good and had a sprinkling of tiny seeds in it that added to the flavor (sorry can't remember the name of the seeds but they are common in Indian food). I also had spinach and lentil soup, possibly the best I have ever had, a beautiful blend of the two primary vegetables, neither dominating.
Fresh and tasty food. Best Garlic naan. Good location
Perfect place to relax, dine, and converse. True service without intrusion and deeply satisfying authentic food!
Good food and warm, friendly service
My family and I went here for dinner. Joe was our server and he was great. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. My family and I are vegan, and there were plenty of options for us to choose from. We will be back!
One of our favorite local eateries for delicious food and attentive service. Never disappoints.
We think of this as our neighborhood Indian. Food is consistently good and so is the service. Nice people. Most seating is in booths, and the noise level is fairly low, so it's a nice quietish place to actually have a conversation without screaming. Also they have a few tables outside. And they appear to do a pretty thriving carryout biz as well. Once on their email list you will get regular offers - $10 off etc etc....... a good deal.
We were a little disappointed with the quality of the food at Cafe of India. The dahl was good, but the chicken tikka masala was not very good as the chicken in it was dry. The cracking spinach had good texture but was far too sweet.
This restaurant rarely disappoints. The service is very professional and the food authentically good. (Having been to India twice I can say that.) We tried two new (for us) dishes and they were terrific. And the Indian beer list is smashing!
Nicely presented buffet with vegan, vegetarian and regular offerings.
Been here for dinner several times and never disappointed with food or service. Can be crowded on weekends so try a reservation for a little peace of mind! Give it a try!
Neighborhood gem that keeps getting better and better!
Neighborhood Indian restaurant, very nice people, food inexpensive and very good. frequent on-line coupons and specials. a real winner !
