Cafe Nuovo Ratings and Reviews
My filet mignon and my wife's beef tenderloin were not cooked as requested and needed to be sent back to the kitchen. It took me several minutes to flag down a server. The server asked my wife if she wanted to eat her vegetables while waiting for her filet mignon to be cooked. The he asked me if mine was okay. looked at my wife and commented "he's looking for a comp". I didn't find that funny. We must have had 3 or 4 different servers during the meal which was weird. I settled the bill and discovered it was not ours. Brought it to the servers attention. We didn't receive one apology. One of my best friends is a chef. Represented the US in Germany for the Culinary Olympics, Opened the kitchen in the Providence Westin, Chef Castle Hill Newport, Chef Carnegie Abbey said there was no excuse and couldn't believe there was no comp.
First time at restaurant so we found it unusual location going into a commercial office building entrance; nice ambience once you are in restaurant. For entree, I had the beef short ribs - wish it was smaller chunks versus 2 large chunks; still liked that it came apart easily; wish it was more ‘saucy’. My husband had the duck special - he loved it; though he thought the red cabbage purée sauce was too sweet. We had the lettuce wrap and crab cakes for starters - delicious!
We have been here numerous times, however this time we were disappointed.
My meal was cold when I received it, sent it back and it was still cold when I received
it the second time. My wife diner had to be sent back , which I must said that the server did not want to serve it because of the size of the portion. The dessert was not very creative and the presentation was not up to prior visits. It must of been a bad night, with all my negative feedback, I would probably try Cafe Nuovo again
Had a party of 10 for a retirement/birthday party. From Shawn who welcomed us to Tricia who took care of us it was a terrific and memorable evening
People came in from Ct and Boston for this special evening
Everyone enjoyed it and are looking to our next return.
Presentation of our food choices was wonderful and innovative. While are food was good, I wouldn't say it was exceptional and as most upscale restaurants in Providence, it was on the pricey side. My friend and I each had 2 glasses of wine (their cheapest), with one of us ordering a soup and entree, while I ordered a caesar salad and grilled pizza. We shared a dessert and had coffee. The bill with tip included came to $180. I'd not recommend this restaurant to everyone because of it's eclectic menu combinations and its' price. Its location during
Waterfire would be perfect.
I have been to Cafe Nuovo many times before and have had pretty good experiences. This year, I had a reservation for 8:30 on a Christmas Eve and was seated closer to 9:00 pm. I was with a party of 10 people and I noticed some other large parties in the restaurant. The food was pretty good as always, but unfortunately the service missed the mark. From the moment we sat down (for a nice holiday meal) we felt as though we were a burden to our two (or) three waiters/waitresses. We were told we had to order our dinner upon sitting down because all of the "good dishes" were "running out." The waiters were extremely cold and unpleasant throughout the entire meal. Even though the food was good, the service absolutely ruined the experience for us. When spending around 1,000 on a meal you would think the waiters would crack a smile and say Merry Christmas upon leaving but instead we were left with dirty looks as they rushed us out. Cafe Nuovo has always been a Christmas Eve tradition, but after this experience, we will change our plans for next year. It doesn't matter how good the food is because Service is 80% of the equation.
Christmas Eve at a restaurant doesn’t sound very family oriented but our special night with my husband and sons was perfect from the table selection to the pot of mousse dessert. We were greated immediately by the Manager (Dimitri) and then seated at a beautiful holiday themed table .Service was so efficient and yet we never felt hurried. Both sons had the veal involtini (recommended by our wonderful waiter Keith) and not a drop was left on the plates! Boneless beef short ribs for my husband were gone in the twinkling of an eye and my special Cod dish was a Christmas delight. Just a lovely night in every way.
This was my second time at this restaurant. Celebrated my boyfriend’s 40th birthday. It was his first time and he loved the food, service and the elegant atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious and out of this world. I don’t drink but I ordered white sangria and I have to say it was absolutely perfect, the way I like it. The wine in my sangria was blended so well that I enjoyed the taste of a cocktail not feeling the alcohol taste at all.
We have always looked forward to going here for dinner but this time it did not meet our expectations. The service was less then attentive and several of the meals were served cool rather than hot. Unfortunately we couldn't get that corrected because the waiter never came back to check on us until we had finished our meals. In addition, some of the selections, such as the short rib, lacked flavor and were a bit dry. All in all not the fine dining experience that we have had in the past.
I have been to many good restaurants such as Gracie’s, Hemenway’s and Mills Tavern etc, Cafe Nuovo is supposedly as good as those one( Including foods and services) First of all, it was nice that someone opened the door for us and helped us with our coats. Then my sister almost slipped on the floor because for some reason the floor wasn’t flat. Half an hour late a lady fell on the floor in the same spot. After we seated I have to ask the waiter for a menu for drinks like maybe I should teach the waiter how to serve people? Aren’t we supposed to get a menu after we seated? Also we waited for almost 20min to be served. Seriously the restaurant isn’t short handed because I see a lot of waitresses and waiters and it was on a Wednesday night. Our water glasses were empty and have to ask for more water. Let me be honest, the foods and drinks are awesome but the services were awful, unfortunately I am one of those very picky people, I am all about services even the foods aren’t good. But for the price we were paying for the services I won’t come back again. I don’t normally complain but I am really upset about last night dining experience.
Café Nuovo is an old friend, where its stunning décor and truly professional service make it the right place for a celebratory birthday luncheon. Once seated, we were disappointed to see a lunch menu that was essentially salads and sandwiches. Not the inventive, Italian-influenced cuisine we have had there in the past. But then the attentive waiter said we could order off the dinner menu. And our two main dishes were excellent. Further, the two desserts we got were both works of sculpture art and very tasty. To be noted also is their wine list: good range, fair prices.
In sum, a very enjoyable experience, worth the money.
Overall a great experience. Our waiter Keith did a great job, attentive, but not too attentive. The food was great. I had the salad special of the day which was a Seafood Salad (Calamari, Cod and Shrimp) on a bed of Arugula with a Olive Oil/Lemon Vinaigrette with Roasted Red Peppers and Cherry Tomatoes which was great! For the entrees I had the Short Ribs (delicious) and my wife had the Risotto and Beef Tenderloin (great). We both had dessert, she had the Creme Brulee and I had the Nuovo Neapolitan (both were excellent). It was a more upscale place than many in Providence, so dress for the occasion.
