It was the perfect choose for a very busy graduation day! Quiet.. excellent service and food was incredible!
We went with a party of 7. The food and service were exceptional. Only bad thing was when our dinners were served, 6 of 7 came out together. The last one came out 5 minutes later. Not the waiters fault, I could see him arguing with the kitchen. They need to get that part of it together. Nothing irritates me more than when everyone isnt served together.
Perfect place for our special occasion. The food and service were outstanding. We had a tough eating crowd and all of us left very impressed. We will make this a regular stop on our future visits to Providence.
We celebrated my husband's 65th birthday at Cafe Nuovo. Everything was top notch , as always.
Went to celebrate Mother's Day with my wife as we hadn't been there in some time after it being a semi-regular place for us. Let me jump to the good news first. The food was very good/excellent and if the quality of the food was all the one rated a restaurant on, this would be much better. The bad news was that we got there about 10 minutes early for the scheduled reservation and when we checked in the hostess said it would a "few minutes." That's OK, after all, we were early. We still got seated about the reservation start time but the hostess apologized and said the delay was "due to a miscommunication." She didn't elaborate and I asked no further but it wasn't on me as I had a printed Open Table reservation and I was on their list. So, we get to a small corner table in a very crowded place. Still, I'm not going to complain. Waiter comes over after a longer than expected delay, asks for drink orders. Get those pretty quickly and then . . . . nothing. Assistant waiter comes over and says did the original waiter tell us the specials. We say no and he walks away. By now plenty of time to review the menu and I am seriously considering just walking out and going elsewhere. Finally waiter comes back and offers no specials information. We order. Food takes about the time you'd expect it to to come out. So, next time it'll be Capital Grille or Flemings or 1149 - not Cafe Nuovo.
We were very disappointed. We have been to Cafe Nuovo before and we were satisfied with it on the whole. However, considering the high priced items, this time it was barely satisfactory.
One of our entres was very overcooked. our coffees tasted like the pot was sitting there for a very long time. our cocktails were mediocre.
The service was very good, but you can't dine on service.
I dislike writing reviews like this one, but dinner did not live up to the cost.
I would like to add that this was mother's day and while very busy, this should have been factored in.
Absolutely the best.
Wonderful service, lovely view & great food. Well worth a visit
We had a bigger table (8) with a waiter who was very forgetful and slow. The place wasn’t hopping so it wasn’t because he was busy. The food was ‘off’ as well, not bad but not terrific either. Nothing seemed to flow. We made it a great time out but the location didn’t necessarily enhance the memory. Atypical for Cafe Nuovo but that’s what happens sometimes.
The New York strip, recommended by our awesome waitor Robert, was phenomenal. $38 and totally worth it. My Husband had the Crab risotto which was also fantastic. Started with delicious lettuce wraps. Valerian cocktail was delish!
Always a favorite in Providence- the service is always 5 star.
Excellent as always. Staff is great and food is always fresh. My trout was great!
We have only been here for dinner and we were expecting the same quality for lunch. The burgers were very basic and very over cooked. The bacon in the grilled cheese was of poor quality. Some pieces were burnt and some weren’t even cooked. The chicken was also over cooked. And the French fries were undercooked. The drinks and deserts were good and the service was excellent. We didn’t bring our disappointment in the food to the wait staffs attention as were celebrating a graduation and just wanted to focus on the occasion. Perhaps the lunch chefs and dinner chefs are different. I would consider coming back for dinner however I would not choose Cafe Nuovo for lunch.
Perfect after leaving the office.
Excellent food! Surprisingly, the burrata was the favorite of the night. Don’t miss that appetizer!
Waiter and staff were amazing. I had gone to the bathroom and the food arrived while I was gone. They took the food back and made sure to deliver it when I returned. The waiter John was so attentive to all our needs. He even made sure to take our leftovers and valet ticket to have our car waiting. Simply amazing!!!
One of the best restaurants in Providence. Never fails!!
Have always wanted to try this place, it was amazing!! The views, the food and the vibe were fantastic!! Wonderful Easter diner with the family, thank you!!
Wonderful evening! Great view, great food, and great customer service.
Great date night! Food and service was terrific. Most importantly the pacing was excellent. Did not rush us at all.
Visiting college child
My partner loved his salmon. My pork chop was tough which distracted from its flavor. Also too much garlic in the spinach or rabe. My brother-in-law did not rave about his duck. I consider Cafe Nuovo an occasion restaurant, and we were celebrating my cochlear implant the next day. I have to say I was a little disappointed in my food......
Cafe Nuovo has always been a favorite of mine and still is! Always fabulous!
Cafe Nuovo is refined and classy in ambiance and the food lives up to the high expectations. It's in a prime location for any Providence excursion. Pair a dinner with a gondola ride and you'll have a night to remember. Brian, our server, was especially pleasant, made great recommendations and kept the night flowing. Gorgeous place and lovely all around!
I am just sorry I haven't tried here sooner! I always go into Boston for dinner because I always feel I cannot find restaurants in Providence that compare as well with the high end ones there. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised how good Cafe Nuovo is. I would compare it right next to Mistral in Boston. Loved it and will definitely add it to my list of favorite restaurants. The food was out standing as well as the presentation and service. Sitting by the window watching the gondolas go by was a added bonus! Can't wait to go back.
Continually excellent. Had guests from out of town and Nuovo did not disappoint
John was a very good attentive waiter. Great trout! Always a greatexperience.
Cafe Nuovo continues to be one of our favorite restaurants. They consistently get all aspects of the dining experience right. It starts with a professional greeting by their professional maitre d' coat check staff to a quick seating according to your reservation. The drinks are perfectly made and the offerings are expertly presented by their waitstaff.
The waitstaff are fully attentive to all diners and quickly recognize an empty glass or dropped napkin. The appetizers and entrees are perfectly prepared by their visible chefs in the open kitchen. I am always wowed and impress when my entree arrives and the first bites tasted.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wishes to have a high end dining experience.
Service was excellent and the food was also excellent This was our second visit and we will be returning.
In our case it's a special occasion restaurant as it a little on the expensive side.
Server was great and made myself and my boyfriend feel comfortable she was awesome and all the other workers were so happy and nice
We hadn't been to Cafe Nuovo for a while and we were just as pleased with our last visit as always. The only issue, which seems to be prevalent in so many restaurants, is that the wait staff puts the wrong dish in front of the wrong person. We were a table of 2, it's not rocket science! Other than that, our food was delicious and our waiter was attentive, but not the friendliest guy (he never did tell us his name).
We will return at some point.
Fancier than we thought, and the food was good but not incredible. Not overly fussy but also not quite as refined or well-executed as it could have been. Also rather overpriced in my opinion - $27 for a pasta dish! Nice experience by the water though. Great for a special occasion.
No better restaurant in RI
Stopped on the way to the Boston area. Very nice restaurant with nice view of the canal
It was our first time at Cafe Nuovo. We were seated fairly quickly as we had reservations. Our server was super nice and helpful. The food however took forever to get to the table. The kitchen was running behind and it took over an hour (from ordering dinner) for our food to be served. Our server was very apologetic and we get that the kitchen can run behind but our experience was ruined as we had no appetite to eat because it was getting so late and we had been filling up on appetizers and bread. The visit was disappointing given that we’ve been looking forward to try it.
The server was spectacular!
The filet mignon cane out completely over cooked as ordered medium rare and it arrived overdone.
Husband ate alone as I waited for a new filet.-no fun!
The management did apologize for the inconvenience however; made no efforts to give anything further as a compensation for the super inconvenience for their error.
Would not return to this establishment.
Our dinner and service were excellent. The entrees took quite a long time to arrive but were worth the wait.
Brian our waiter was superb - professional, attentive, his food recommendations were spot on! We had a terrific evening.
