I had scallops over pasta. Excellent choice, flavorful and satisfying.
We went to Café Normandie during lunch hour for a friend's birthday. We were able to get the big round table right in front of the windows. The server was attentive enough and the courses came out relatively quickly.
The food was really good (I will explain later why I didn't rate it excellent). The appetizers (escargots, a country platter which included some duck mousse and country pate) were superb as well as the entrées of petite bouillabaisse and Duck Confit. The only disappointment was the soft shell crab. Not very tasty. For dessert we had the Tarte Tatin and it was delicious.
We recommend Café Normandie and will definitely be back.
We typically LOVE Cafe Normandie, this time we had a few issues. My husbands meal didn't come out with mine, actually, the waiter said he didn't even realize my husband wanted to order an entree. When my husbands meal came out, he was supposed to have a filet mignon, he had a small filet and a small miscellaneous piece of steak, the chef came out and said his filet was cut too small so he gave him an additional piece. My husband ordered I believe the chefs special which contained 4 small entree samples and instead was served the surf and turf. The cream of crab soup was amazing as were the profiteroles. We still recommend checking this restaurant out. We have been two previous times and had no issues. The food is usually pretty fantastic.
Great food and great food value. Service was good and personable. We will return when back in Annapolis.
Nice atmosphere, great food, and comfortable ambience. We won’t hesitate to go back and try other menu options.
Staying in Annapolis for the summer and stumbled across Cafe Normandie. A gem! The food was unusual and delicious. The only negative I can express is the charcuterie board was not that great, unless you like pate. The ambiance is nice, but we had a family with a screaming toddler behind us for half the meal. Cannot really blame the restaurant for that. We were seated in window booth and were able to hear each other easily. Server had suggestions for gluten free guests as well. Participated in Open Table App. Will definitely return.
Food was great. Service excellent. Price very fair. No aggravation
This is my first time at this incarnation of Cafe Normandie. When I went to school in Annapolis in the late '70s, there was a Cafe Normandie under different ownership. Even with the change in ownership, Cafe Normandie remains a very good place to have a nice meal for not too much money--- the kind of place a student could take his or her parents. The restaurant serves some french comfort food (beef bourgignon), seafood, and some french street food (crepes). It does all of these things credibly. I started my meal with some pate de campagne, which was how I remembered it: a dense pork terrine with pistachios. Yum! My suggestions would be (1) to lose the salad and provide a few more cornichons and olives; and (2) to provide (or at least ask whether the diner would like) some nice dijon mustard. Being that it is June, I went for the soft shell crabs provencale as my main course. It was a provencale preparation with tomatoes and onions but it was a little light on the herbs that I think make a provencale preparation sing. One warning: the restaurant seems to believe in generous portions. The pate de compagne consisted of three thick slabs of pate. The entree came with three soft shell crabs. So you may want to keep that in mind when ordering. Finally, the service was very friendly which is something I appreciate when dining alone. Cafe Normandie is a nice alternative to the standard bar scene in Annapolis.
My husband and I took two of our good friends out to dinner as a "thank you" for a huge favor they did for us. None of us had been there before in spite of 30+ years of residency in Cape St. Claire. We went during the week and rather early, 6:30pm so the restaurant was fairly empty. Our waiter, Ted, was gracious and very attentive. High praise for the service. Our friend ordered the charcuterie board as an appetizer and for my part, that was the best part of the meal. My husband ordered a veal dish, our friend's husband ordered a steak dish and his wife also ordered veal..I believe. I ordered the duck with a raspberry sauce. Everyone seemed please with their choice except me. I anticipated a medium cooked duck with a CRISP and succulent skin and the sauce to be under the duck. The duck was dense and way over cooked and because it was doused with the sauce, the skin was soft and "flabby". I was SO disappointed, as was my husband who was paying the bill. The green beans were perfect and the two tablespoons of potatoes were totally average. I am sorry to say that I was so disappointed with my dinner that I am reluctant to return.
Always delicious food with outstanding service
It has a certain cozy, not-trying-too-hard charm, but the food is unspectacular and the tables are way too close together for date night (like, maybe under a foot). The simple, butter-rich trout almondine was the highlight. The roasted duck was a bit overdone and had an underwhelming raspberry sauce that tasted like a brown gravy you'd get from a packet. The baked muscles were unimaginative and tasted a bit old. The softshell crab app wasn't bad but the provencal sauce lacked any taste of olives or capers. It's not bad but I wouldn't go back.
Café Normandie is a wonderful restaurant not only ideal for special occasions like a birthday or anniversary but also lunch or weekend brunch. Phenomenal food; you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Plan on being there for a little while, but that's part of the goodness--the meal is an experience, not a rush.
Yes I know everyone who goes to Annapolis is looking for crab cakes and other seafood. Do yourself a favor. Go to Café Normandie. Be sure to ask to have Kate as your server. The outstanding job she does only makes the meal better. The food was great. Value great and service even better.
Fit for a foodie! Annapolis doesn’t have to many “non-crab” restaurants......this restaurant was a true gem to find! Food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive and atmosphere was very Parisian. We will definitely return!
The dinner (rabbit pot pie/encote//salads/hanger steak) was prepared as ordered. The lamb chops were undercooked but still delicious.
Easily among the best French meals we've had outside France, and as good as many in that country. True country French cuisine - only the portion sizes have been Americanized, unfortunately.
We had had a couple of excellent lunches, opted to return for a special occasion dinner, and were rewarded with an excellent dinner/overall dining experience
Place needs updating!! Generally the has been good here, tonight the duck was overcooked
A great meal at a fair price. The halibut and mango dish was fantastic.
Another good meal at Cafe Normandie, we arrived early to be able to eat before a 8:00 show and were able to use the early bird 3 course menu. The country Pate is always excellent, but very filling, we both had fish as a main course , salmon in with blueberries was excellent as was the trout almondine, both well cooked and fresh. Desserts were good. This is a really nice restaurant to have a relaxing 1.5-2 hour meal in. Wait staff is attentive but not intrusive, food is well prepared and overall atmosphere is great
Very good food and equally good service. Staff is relaxed and professional.
Our 'go to's' in Annapolis for genuine French cuisine!
Great service. Food can be rich, but I expect that with a lot of French dishes. My quail was a bit tough, but that was our only negative comment regarding the food. We ate here two days in a row, for dinner and lunch.
Love Cafe Normandie! Atmosphere is sooo charming. Staff is excellent - love them. And the food...oh my goodness, it's just the BEST!!!
We went for lunch. Unfortunately there were only two servers in the entire restaurant so the service was beyond slow and poor. Good food and atmosphere lose their luster when it takes 1.5 hours for lunch service. Absolutely disappointing.
Has been, and continues to be our favorite restaurant in Annapolis.
We really enjoyed our meal, everything was delicious. And Jackson, our waiter, was great!
Excellent, as always. Delicious presentations of both my wife's salmon and my duck. Server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
We came here to celebrate my daughter's graduation from college at nearby University of Maryland. The restaurant is right in the heart of the historical area of Annapolis, right down the street from the waterfront, and has a casual but elegant feel. The food has a French vibe - our family ordered crepes, grilled halibut and hamburgers with wonderful pomme frites. Service was attentive and the our meals were served piping hot. The only complaint came from my in-laws who thought the burgers and the fries were "too salty." I think they were reacting to the taste of Old Bay seasoning, which is always a common feature on the table at any restaurant in Maryland.
The waiter Ted was totally awesome. The hostess needs work on customer service. Just felt like we inconvenienced her when we requested a booth. The place was not very busy.
They take shortcuts on annoying things like substituting something margarine spread like rather than butter and charging for anchovies on a Caesar Salad. It sort of ruins everything else. Quite disappointing.
It was great
Our waiter did a great job providing our dinner service and was understanding when I spoke to him about my main course, ham and cheese (brie) crepe. After taking one bite, I could not eat it because of the very strong salt taste.
Our service took much longer than usual for the entire time there. While others who came in after us received their meals and finished long before us.
We had a fantastic time when we visited on Mother's Day. Our table was ready when we arrived for our reservation. Our server was a delightful young woman who I fear may have been cheated on her tip because of a math error. Her service was impeccable.
The food was all anyone could ask for. We had specifically come for the escargots and were not disappointed.
Highly recommend Cafe Normandie where you dine between prints of Monet and Renoir.
Mother’s Day Dinner for my wife and I
An outstanding restaurant with great food, service, and ambiance.
always can count on this place. Been coming for years!
The mother's day brunch was very enjoyable with great food and service.
Very disappointing. Place was very warm, no AC, stuck us in a tiny table between folks. Waiter was always in a hurry, had too many tables? and not around.
Unfortunately, had to send drink back, appetizer was not good, and meal (veal chop) was bland and over cooked (asked for medium rare).
Fourth time we have been here, but will not go again. Many much better restaurants in Annapolis.
Authentic french cuisine. Menu has a Great variety to choose from.
Servers are wonderful, knowledgeable, friendly, outstanding.
Best area in Annapolis.
