We have adopted Cafe Normandie as our favorite local restaurant. Our most recent visit was Sunday evening in the holiday period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was crowded with happy diners. As my apetite is modest, and their portions usually are generous, I had as a starter their crab on a portabelle mushroom (excellent), and for my main, another starter, my favorite, escargots (12!) and a side of asperagus. Those, with drinks and a sambuca following were perfect. My spouse followed the same plan but with different choices. We happened to strike up a conversation with a couple from North Carolina, from whom I had overheard a comment that being in Annapolis for only one day, they chose Cafe Normandie, as they were familiar with the Annapolis restaurant scene rom previous visits. Jean-Louie -- owner and chef -- came out to greet us, as he often does.

This was a very pleasant and unhurried dining experience composed of well prepared food presented by a warm, engaging and skilled team of hosts. The added bonus was the Wednesday special featuring all still wines on the wine list for 1/2 price. We’ve dined here many times before and had always found it calm and inviting of conversation, however this time, perhaps due to the holiday season, there were several large parties, one of which grew to be quite loud, and inhibiting conversation, hence the slight ding on ambience.

Place was not crowded yet we had appallingly and unapologetically poor table service. Ignored for the first 20 minutes and then pretty much throughout the meal. Missing part of our order when food came out. No bread or condiments offered.

Service was superb compared to last time we were there several years ago. Tatiana was extremely timely and friendly. Food was good, but not great for price. However, location, ambience and service will bring us back again.

I have been dining at Cafe Normandie since I was a midshipman (an early female) at the Naval Academy. I now live in Annapolis and this is one of my truly favorites. Do not miss the escargot !

There was only one server we saw tending to the entire downstairs floor with no manager or owner in sight as she was also making the drinks for her tables and uncorking the wine. She was absolutely amazing!!!!! Having been to France, my crepe tasted nothing like it. It was more so like a soggy, eggy quesadilla. Wine and cocktails were delicious and the ambiance was ideal for our date night. I just wish we didn't see servers in the weeds with no support from management. They should have been doing something on the floor. The food was edible but definitely wouldn't go again if I wanted crepes.
