We've never had less than an excellent meal at Cafe Navarre. This was our 3rd visit this year since we resumed dining out in March. Always a pleasant experience.
Notre dame games for decades & never found a truly memorable place to dine. Now we will return to Cafe Navarre in the future. A wonderful & delicious experience!
Second time here. First time was phenomenal but this time not so much. Here to celebrate a 50th bday but that was never mentioned even though it was made known at time of reservation. Had to ask waiter for butter, steak sauce, knives and another drink. Not quite what we were expecting.
My wife and I had an excellent dining experience at Cafe Navarre. The food was delicious, out waiter was attentive and courteous as well as the manager and other restaurant staff. We never had to ask for anything. They anticipated what we wanted or needed and asked as well. The restaurant itself is beautiful (think old bank) and location is good with ample parking. We would go again.
Overall, the experience was good, but not great. They were 20+ minutes late in seating us. The pace of the meal was very lengthy. It could be that they were short staffed as a result of COVID, or it could be that they just have issues handling as many people that were in the restaurant. The food was very good, but the overall experience was just okay.
We always enjoy this South Bend restaurant. It is our favorite! Love the presentation, menu options, ambiance and staff!
Excellent service in a first class location. The food was not exceptional.
Got the seafood Puttanesca did not like the sauce, more of a gravy
Very classy. Great service. Very good food.
Undoubtedly at or near the top of South Bend fine dining. Imaginative use of seasonal ingredients (salad of root vegetables, a boar osso buco). Serving sizes of main courses was a bit inconsistent: bouillabaisse was large, osso buco small. Desserts had many parts and were too large.
With so many interesting looking choices nearby, we're glad we opted for Navarre. The service was excellent, even with staff in training. Our salads and Steak Frites were beautifully presented and delicious. The wine list and beer offerings were very good. Highly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first and only dining experience in two years, my salmon was delicious but i didn’t care for the accompanying black lentils
Service was very attentive with no rushing. Dinner selections were right on.
Rowan was very polite but not attentive. Food was actually exceptional, drinks were crafted but not with great skill. Drinks served not as ordered (fixed more or less) than follow up drink (intended same) was with wrong liquor. We went for the experience but ended up only really enjoying the food.
Ryne went above and behind to make our experience exceptional.
Always great food.
Waitress forgot a side.
Beautiful room - nice menu selection and chef delivered. Waiter was excellent.
We had requested table in main room but got high top in bar. Waitress was good but stretched thin as her main station was outside. She told us twice she was getting us bread and finally another server brought it. Food was great, desserts were just ok. Their version of hummingbird cake was glorified banana nut bread.
The whole menu looked great, but I was particularly pleased to find several tasty vegan/vegetarian items. This will become a go-to venue for us in the future.
Food was very good - had the short ribs, very tender, tasty and good-sized portion and wife had scallops which she said were excellent. We will be back next time we are in South Bend.
Would have been 5 stars across. However, I listed the occasion as our anniversary. We were first initially seated right by another couple, but I then asked to be moved to a booth. There were only 3 parties there at the time. We then we’re seated in a booth, but right by a table of 4. I was really hoping for something more private, thus I would have given a 5 star rating across the board.
John excellent staff member.
Steak frites was cold. Asked to move tables. We were stuck in a middle table. Bumped by wait staff. Really annoying. Despite not crowded, we were told that reservations on tables precluded moving us.
Truffle fries sucked. Not sure what the sauce was but it was not good and drowned any truffle taste. Ragout was bland.
Steak frites was ordered medium. Came to the table cold and undercooked.
Restaurant is very dark.
We had 2 apps and 2 dinners. Chicken was decent. Scallops were tiny-4 tiny scallops (that were ok but nothing special) with no sides for $38 in this town is a little nuts.
Will not return. Disappointed.
We eat at Cafe Navarre whenever we are in South Bend. The food is great with some unique offerings, great wine list and cocktails and service is terrific. The ambiance is neat, too, as the interior is an old bank building converted into a restaurant.
A singularly great spot in South Bend.
Such a nice experience at caf Navarre. Had the shrimp, truffle fries, pork tenderloin and barramundi. Incredible.
This was our first time here, but it will not be the last. We shared a Navarre Salad which was quite good. I had the fish and she had the pork chop. Both were excellent!
The service could not have been better.
I found the Wine options was a bit expensive.
I recommend this restaurant.
This was our first time to Cafe Navarre and it was an amazing experience! The menu is phenomenal. Fantastic and unique craft cocktails and great wine list. They had seasonal items on the cocktail and food menus for autumn, which was a nice touch. We had the Ricotta Gnocchi appetizer and it was deeply savory and rich. We could have devoured two of those! For our entrees we had the pork chop with sauce poivre and blue cheese hashbrowns. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts - they are spicy with Sambal sauce and crunchy - it was a nice variation on roasted Brussels. For dessert we had the apple tart, which was as good as any you would find in a French pastry shop. The food is high quality and fresh. Our server was very attentive - just the right balance of checking in on us. We would definitely dine here again.
Food and ambience were ideal for our dinner to celebrate a birthday. Cesar was an excellent server.
My wife and I celebrated our 14th anniversary here and had a wonderful time. The flavors and textures of the food were excellent and the service was gracious. I recommend Cafe Navarre!
This was our first experience with Cafe Navarre. The entire experience was amazing. We were there celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. The waitress was super helpful after we had communicated to her this was our first time there. She was very patient and explained any and everything that we had questions about. We also witnessed employees willing to help other employees. (Team work) The manager Ryan also presented himself to every table to make sure everyone’s experience was going well. After my husband and I telling him the reason we were there and how amazing the experience was already going he thoughtfully brought us out a desert in celebration of our wedding anniversary. I can’t say enough on how much we enjoyed our experience there. The service, food, & atmosphere was great! Keep up the amazing service Cafe Navarre, we definitely will be back!
Their signature mushroom soup is one of my favorites!
It was my mother-in-law's 91st birthday. There was a signed card from the entire staff waiting at our table. Our server was attentive without being in the way. Food was fantastic! It was a great experience.
Gourmet food with new dishes each month. It's one of my favorite restaurants in the area.
Delicious fresh food, excellent service, relaxing atmosphere.
They went above and beyond with service, bringing out a dessert for the birthday girl! The food was delicious as well. Can’t wait to go back!
A previous review by me has been posted! This place is a gem in south Bend! The food is amazing!
The waiter interrupted our conversation several times (5?) to ask if we needed anything. Quite annoying. Better to train them to pause and watch nonverbals to see if we were needing anything--more like French waiters.
Cafe Navarre is a wonderful place for special occasions, Have been there several times, never had a bad experience. 2 years in a row for my wife's Birthday and this year they even had a Birthday card for her signed by the entire staff, very nice touch.
We loved the lamb shank and the sea trout. The caesar salad was fresh and plentiful. We also had the peaches and cream dessert. It was full of fresh peaches, cream and sorbet. Yummy!
Clean and upbeat atmosphere. Great ambiance and the food was great. Will come back if I am in the area.
