Very enjoyable dining experience. The menu isn’t extensive but the choices were very good. Our party of 4 ordered the risotto, mac and cheese with short ribs, and the short ribs and everyone enjoyed their meals. Would definitely return.
Enjoyed the unique twists of favor on traditional dishes. Fun friendly atmosphere. Great people watching!
Strangely and uncomfortably humid, our eyeglasses fogged and water glasses dripping condensation. Decor is tired and distracting from the essence of the comfortable food. Restaurant is divided into two parts, sit on side w bar if given the option: it appeared to be more modern, lively, and comfortable...the alternative is sponge painted, inconsistent lighting w aforementioned temp issue. Food was rich/delicious and called for more personal service and better ambiance.
It was a great dinner experience. Our server/ bartender Gwynn was amazing and super friendly. The meal was also great and an excellent offering for RORW.
First time there. Decided to go for the Royal Oak Restaurant Week menu. The food was excellent! We will definitely go back.
Restaurant was empty at times only waiter would go in back and it was eerily quiet. Food good not great. Wine good.
Great service and delicious food! We were there for dinner, but have heard the breakfast is amazing so I'm sure we'll be back to give that a whirl.
Great food. Service was solid. Seating needs to improve
Much better for breakfast
It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night in Royal Oak. I would've expected faster service since there were a total of 5 people.
Food was great, nice people and I appreciated the fact that it was quiet enough you didn't have to shout to be heard. Which is typical Friday night after 7:30.
Excellent food and service tonight at our old favorite, Cafe Muse. Had the shrimp and grits which were outstanding. Great place to catch up with a friend.
I have eaten at Cafe Muse many times for lunch. . . always delicious. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food. Going by that, I took 3 people there for dinner Fri. night. We arrived at 6:45, most tables were empty. . . that should have been a red flag. My drink was poor, as was someone else at our table. The bartender didn't know what she/he was doing. My friend's pasta was overcooked and "gummy". I ordered a burger "medium with no bacon". It came well done, with lots of bacon. Really disappointing and I was embarrassed in front of my friends.
I may come for lunch, but never again for dinner.
Very much enjoyed the food. Service could have been a bit better but was not a problem.
A talented bartender and excellent food. Especially like the mushroom soup and the chicken sandwich.
Not sure if it was a bad night because it was our first time there. There was only 4 tables of people there on a Friday night. Service was slow. Watched a couple sit at the bar for quite a while and no one came to wait on them so they left. I would've too. The food was ok but not great. Way over priced for the quality. Will not be returning
Arrived promptly and greeted by a hectic staff person. We were seated and provided menus and waters. We were a group of two and there was one other group of two already seated. Several minutes later our server arrived and asked for our drink orders. I deferred asking for time to peruse the wine list. That was a mistake. After a lengthy wait the server returned and took our drink orders only to disappear again for several more minutes. Upon return to take our food orders without my wine I reminded that I was waiting for wine. The server apologized and stated they were dealing with a problem with their reservation system (Open Table?) and they were busy with that issue. Of course that was troubling to hear since they were dealing with a back house problem at the expense of present customers. The food was delivered all at once even though we asked for pre-entree salads. The salad with apple and vinaigrette was inedible due to the high vinegar content in the dressing. The entree itself was a grilled cheese and short rib meat sandwich which was good if a bit soggy. We were not asked if we wanted a second glass of wine until after we had eaten dinner. Of course we declined a second glass and dessert and asked for the check. This was another one of those mysteries of a restaurant with high reviews failing to deliver. This was especially puzzling since there were only four patrons in the restaurant. All in all a bad experience.
Birthday/ladies night out.
very few options for appetizers or entrees; the food is not tasty and quite salty; totally disappointed
I'm not really sure exactly what happened with this place tonight, but "off" is not an adequate description of what this night was....
Where to start?
1) They were out of the only dish I really wanted;
2) Slow doesn't begin to describe the service. We waited over an hour for our food, and this was after waiting 20 minutes for our drinks;
3) The food, while good, wasn't quite as described. It was tasty though - no complaints;
4) Our waitress seemed quite uninterested in actually serving. She seemed stressed out and very distracted
The most remarkable thing is, they weren't busy in the least. The place was half empty. I think I'm done with Cafe Muse until something changes. For $70, I expect better service.
Wanted to like it. Lunch and brunch are great. Dinner was very mediocre. Out of mist draft beers and bourbons. Food was painfully slow and just ok. We will stick to brunch
Their specialty is short rib. They ground the short rib to look like pulled pork. Plus it was served in a bowl with two sides packed close. We had to send it back.
We have eaten at Cafe Muse ten or eleven times in the past three years. The new management and chef have dropped this place ffrom four stars to one star. Just Shameful. Royal Oak has 40 other places to go. I will miss you Cafe Muse. ;(
Spectacular short rib grilled cheese, the potatoes were delicious. Good beer selection
Very bad food and equally bad service. The southern theme menu is out of place and selections very limited. Disappointment for me and my guests!
We really enjoyed Cafe Muse!
We love Cafe Muse, however it appears that in September 2016 the menu has been changed and it is now called Dottie's southern bistro. No signage change or anything else to alert us of this change. We did not know any different until we sat down and were handed the new menus. I thought someone was playing a joke on us. Very disappointing.
Cafe Muse is a great breakfast/brunch place and WAS great for dinner, too: But they've changed the dinner menu to focus on chicken and waffles! Having said that, we found some delicious side dishes and made do. I had the short ribs (the only sort of regular dinner choice on the menu) and it was outstanding! We almost left due to wierd menu, but were glad we didn't.
Server was nice enough, but very weird service: we ordered soup and appetizers that came AFTER the dinner was served. We were seated at very high table and chairs that were very uncomfortable. But it was ALL good enough, overall, to recommend it.
I have to start by saying the food was amazing. I loved my meal as well as my husband's. That said, if it hadn't been so great I'm not sure I'd return. We went Cafe Muse (actually Dotties after 3) for a meal before going the comedy club. It's a very small venue with a contemporary feel. The size made it prone to get noisy. None of this would have been a problem save for one family with young children who seemed to use the entire dining area as a playground. This is obviously not the fault of the restaurant, but they made no attempt at remedying the situation. This was beyond disruptive to all other diners and we very nearly left. In fact, we probably would have if we could have cashed out but our server was nearly impossible to pin down. Perhaps they were understaffed that night (I can be sympathetic) but our server did not take our order until 28 minutes after we'd been sat. By the time we ordered and got our food we had to hurry to leave to get to our show. The server took our card for payment and disappeared out of sight for 13 minutes!! Meanwhile the hostess was sitting at the front door doing nothing (because all tables were full). I normally am not in a rush and truthfully I did not tell her were were on a schedule, but when you arrive at a restaurant (with reservations for 2 people) at 6:30 you expect to be out before 8. I will probably go back and give them another chance. It could have been an off night and the food really was good.
I was disappointed in the dinner menu. I took my family there after looking at the dinner menu online and the menu they gave us was completely different then the one online. There were no appetizer options and no real dinner options. This menu looked like a lunch/brunch menu. I was hoping to get scallops or something more than grilled cheese or a burger. Then when asked about kid options there were none. So we had to pay for a giant order of mac and cheese, which we ended up taking most of it home because a 2 year old does not eat that much. I was hoping for something more than what they had to offer, so I was completely disappointed. I must add that I do love their breakfast and brunch but I would never go there for dinner again.
Amazing cocktails!!! Good food, great variety. Will definetely go back.
The roasted beet salad was flavorful and large enough to share. The scallop entree was delicious. Can't wait to go there again and sit outside on a warm evening!
Dinner was great. Friendly service and great cocktails! The risotto was really creative and delicious. My dining companion had the max and cheese with beef and it was soooooo good. I can't wait to bring my friends when they come to town.
We went there for an early dinner before Drag Queen Bingo. The food was good and creative. There were only a couple people in there I think because of the time but definitely want to try it again
I was very disappointed. The food was good, but the atmosphere was not very friendly. The server was in a bad mood, possibly, but she was not warm or welcoming or very happy to be there. I'm not inclined to go back.
Can't wait to visit again. Their scallops and bacon-wrapped chorizo stuffed dates are absolutely delicious. Definitely try the complimentary bread - it's so fresh and flavorful. I love that they favor organic and locally sourced products. Great vegetarian options as well.
Really creative foods
Went before a show at the ROMT. Great cocktails and appetizers. Fish tacos are awesome, the bacon wrapped dates are great, and the mushroom and toast is incredible. Friendly staff. Cool music.
Great food, beverage and service. Extremely friendly and efficient staff. They have the best brunch in the area and dinner is great too. It is good for business or pleasure!
Everything about it is appealing from the entryway to the tables to the menu
I could not help but notice how empty Royal Oak was last weekend for restaurant week. Even Cafe Muse had some space available. I was shocked, especially because they had a great RORW menu (much better than last year's), for $35. The mushroom bisque was excellent, the cioppino good, but needed some grilled sourdough on the side for the broth, and the banana's foster bread pudding was certainly worth cheating on my diet. This is a restaurant that I do not go to often enough, but this occasion reminded me that I should and will.
