We had a 5 pm reservation, called to confirm the night before and when we got there the place was dark and the door open. We went into the kitchen and only the chef was there...he was so friendly and went above and beyond to assist us by seating us and taking our order as he called the waiter to see if he was on his way, 25 minutes past 5. All in all the food was wonderful however no one even mentioned what happened or even acknowledged what occurred. When the Manager walked in he was oblivious to the tables there and didn't even offer a hello. This was a 50th birthday dinner for a guest visiting from India as we took him to the theater. Sad the this opportunity was missed......
Dining in Millburn offers many choices but our favorite is Cafe Monet. If true French food is what you are looking for this is the place for you. I started with the Escargo Au Gratin which was delicious. For the entree I had the skate which is a staple on their menu and never disappoints. We were dashing off to the Paper Mill Playhouse so didn't have time to endulge in the yummy desserts - maybe next time.
We have dined here several times. Our most recent dinner was somewhat disappointing.
The kitchen was slow even though they were only half full and the special entree, shrimp and scallops on a skewer was served with the shells on the shrimp - difficult to eat. We hope to go back and have a better experience
This was a first visit for a pre-theater dinner. The atmosphere was French and very attractive.
We had a pea soup with mint which was delicious and, as a main course, stuffed chicken breast with spinach and and sun dried tomatoes which was outstanding. For desert, we had fresh strawberries with assorted other berries covered by a lovely custard. As this was a quiet evening, we were served by one of the owners, whose informative conversation, added to the
pleasant dining experience.
The food and atmosphere were very good. My issue mostly comes down to the service. The waitress was a bit unhelpful with attitude. They had run out of at least 3 of things we ordered- and she kind of didn't care. We asked for a decanter and she looked at us like we had 3 heads then provided us the only one she said they had which was very dirty. They say no substitutions on the menu which is ridiculous in this day and age with all of the allergies people have and then they had run out of so many ingredients so they did substitutions on their own (ie, my white bean puree came as canned chick peas with no forewarning). I thought we should at least get a coffee or dessert on the house but it didn't occur to our server to accommodate us in any way. Good thing we had good meals despite it all and really enjoyed the company of our friends.
We loved our Valentine's Day dinner at Cafe Monet. The tasting menu gave us a chance to try some new dishes and the dessert course was amazing. The atmosphere was delightfully cozy and romantic, and we enjoyed the classical guitarist. A most memorable evening!
We had a Saturday evening "date" night and had a fabulous dinner. We both had the specials of the night, chicken cordon bleu, which was the best I've ever tasted. The service was excellent, with our water glasses mysteriously kept full. The ambience was romantic and lively with a guitar player strumming quietly for background music. I can't wait to go back!
In for Christmas Eve dinner. Pri Fixe. 3 course. We had the soup. Spectacular. My wife had the duck, I had the cordon bleu, which was the best I've ever had. Duck reported to be quite respectable. Finished with the tarte Tatin and Yule log, yummy. Really enjoyed on this special day/evening.
Service was a bit slow. But we survived.
This is my second visit here. Our dishes were very good, especially the decedent dessert. My chief complaint with this place is the service is spotty. It is BYOB. The serve took our bottle of wine to keep chilled, but we had to keep asking for get our glasses refilled. They did a nice job of getting the other patrons in and out for the theater, but I guess we were just not in a hurry...a bit overlooked. Otherwise, pate was wonderful. Dessert was choco-licious!
