Food was just average - the guy behind the bar was very rude!!! First gave us old, rotted lemons for our water and when we said something, he said - oh do you want fresh ones? What kind of comment is that? Why would you think it was ok to bring old ones that had black spots on them? Very bad first impression. We had to wait a while for him to open our bottle of wine and when we asked where it was, he said - oh are you thirsty and was annoyed that we were bothering him! To top it off he came over in a dirty t-shirt. He was very obnoxious and won't be back
Food was very good. Service was excellent. Best to savor this restaurant at a leisurely pace. It’s a cozy gem, but service may slow down when filled to capacity.
We have been there before and always enjoy our meal. Quiet atmosphere with good service.
Romantic, great atmosphere, lovely staff. Octopus was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back.
We went for a birthday dinner and the food was good and the service was slow. Ambiance was good with a guitar player strumming away.
Cafe Monet is always a perfect dining experience - excellently prepared food with caring, attentive service. A French bistro which offers one the feeling of being in France. The paintings on the walls done by local artist, Barbara Dalton, enhance the ambiance.
I love the ambiance, the food, and the music all a feeling of being in a real French cafe!
A busy evening at Cafe Monet. Service was slow but the food was excellent. Live music was a nice addition. Could almost have been in Paris.
A quaint French bistro in Millburn. The food is carefully prepared and the menu offers a limited but varied selection. Our waitress was well informed about the menu choices. Don’t miss this sleeper!
Two older couples. We enjoyed it very much. Guitar payer added atmosphere.
Great food. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. I love their hanger steak.
Wonderful live guitar and good food, hard to beat
Great service and delicious food. Loved the touch of the live music.
Dined on a Thursday evening. Only one other table was occupied. Escargot - good. Potato leek soup - excellent. My duck could have been trimmed of fat a little better. My companion loved the coq au vin. Chef sent a complimentary dessert to share. Overall good value and BYOB helps control expenses. My favorite French restaurant in the area is still Verjus.
Nice staff... nice atmosphere...lovely food. This is an especially comfortable place to spend an evening.
This place was perfect for Valentine's Day. Intimate, service was attentive, but not intrusive and the food was exceptional.
Real-deal French bistro, a rarity in NJ. Classic French menu choices, well-prepared. BYO.
Cafe Monet is a charming neighborhood bistro with a European flair. The food is always well-prepared and delicious, the servers courteous and helpful. We love to listen to the classical guitarist who plays on Sunday nights.
Wonderful waiter. Wonderful music. Wonderful food
The food was mediocre at best. Slow service. Very nice people. No wonder it was empty. So sad.
We had an early dinner before a play at Paper Mill and were the only customers for the first 30 minutes. Food was quite good and service as expected given the circumstances.
We had a 5 pm reservation, called to confirm the night before and when we got there the place was dark and the door open. We went into the kitchen and only the chef was there...he was so friendly and went above and beyond to assist us by seating us and taking our order as he called the waiter to see if he was on his way, 25 minutes past 5. All in all the food was wonderful however no one even mentioned what happened or even acknowledged what occurred. When the Manager walked in he was oblivious to the tables there and didn't even offer a hello. This was a 50th birthday dinner for a guest visiting from India as we took him to the theater. Sad the this opportunity was missed......
Dining in Millburn offers many choices but our favorite is Cafe Monet. If true French food is what you are looking for this is the place for you. I started with the Escargo Au Gratin which was delicious. For the entree I had the skate which is a staple on their menu and never disappoints. We were dashing off to the Paper Mill Playhouse so didn't have time to endulge in the yummy desserts - maybe next time.
We have dined here several times. Our most recent dinner was somewhat disappointing.
The kitchen was slow even though they were only half full and the special entree, shrimp and scallops on a skewer was served with the shells on the shrimp - difficult to eat. We hope to go back and have a better experience
This my third or fourth visit to Cafe Monet but the last two or three were a few years ago. I don't know why I had not been back since. You can be sure the next visit will be sooner.
Cafe Monet has wonderful food and very pleasant ambiance but the service was a little slow (but not painfully slow).
Lovely atmosphere, pleasant service and delicious food make this inexpensive price fixe restaurant a winner!
Great dinner. All around good cuisine and excellent setting.
Wonderful food, friendly staff, charming setting.
Always something interesting on the menu -- an original take on classic French bistro.
Great food & wonderful atmosphere! Friendly service!!!
Hidden gem in Millburn. Close to the Paper Mill Playhouse. French dining in a casual, friendly atmosphere. Every dish from the appetizer to dessert was excellent.
We had a very good meal and an enjoyable evening. The beet salad was really good as well as the special for the night.
Lovely ambience. Tasty food. Gracious service. Had a great time.
This was a first visit for a pre-theater dinner. The atmosphere was French and very attractive.
We had a pea soup with mint which was delicious and, as a main course, stuffed chicken breast with spinach and and sun dried tomatoes which was outstanding. For desert, we had fresh strawberries with assorted other berries covered by a lovely custard. As this was a quiet evening, we were served by one of the owners, whose informative conversation, added to the
pleasant dining experience.
I've been to Cafe Monet for a few times. Every time they provided good food, great services, and a relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful place to dine in. Will come back again for sure.
BDay, and we just love this place
The food and atmosphere were very good. My issue mostly comes down to the service. The waitress was a bit unhelpful with attitude. They had run out of at least 3 of things we ordered- and she kind of didn't care. We asked for a decanter and she looked at us like we had 3 heads then provided us the only one she said they had which was very dirty. They say no substitutions on the menu which is ridiculous in this day and age with all of the allergies people have and then they had run out of so many ingredients so they did substitutions on their own (ie, my white bean puree came as canned chick peas with no forewarning). I thought we should at least get a coffee or dessert on the house but it didn't occur to our server to accommodate us in any way. Good thing we had good meals despite it all and really enjoyed the company of our friends.
Always wonderful and special. A valentine must. Can't wait to go back
We loved our Valentine's Day dinner at Cafe Monet. The tasting menu gave us a chance to try some new dishes and the dessert course was amazing. The atmosphere was delightfully cozy and romantic, and we enjoyed the classical guitarist. A most memorable evening!
We had a Saturday evening "date" night and had a fabulous dinner. We both had the specials of the night, chicken cordon bleu, which was the best I've ever tasted. The service was excellent, with our water glasses mysteriously kept full. The ambience was romantic and lively with a guitar player strumming quietly for background music. I can't wait to go back!
