Cafe Modern Ratings and Reviews
A choice setting to enjoy world class architecture while dining with friends. Friendly, efficient and attentive service is available from a well trained, smart staff. The food selection is from a creative chef who knows the business of using best ingredients with interesting chemistry for delightful taste. The plate presentations give cause to pause before consumption. Wonderful experience for brunch.
My daughter, granddaughter had a wonderful time both in lunch and touring the Art exhibit. It was a delayed Christmas gift from my daughter. We decided to wait until Valentine's to use it. We had a great time we love the view. It is quite elegant. Thank you for a great time
We left our credit card after paying the bill. The server not only tried to run after us, but then went back and got our phone number off the reservation and called us. We said we were turning around and heading back and she met us outside at the curb. Very nice service, especially considering it was Valentine's night and they were very busy.
Sadly, this was the worst experience at Cafe Modern we have had. We go often because the ambiance and food is usually great. This time, despite a two day advance reservation, and not a holiday mind you, we were seated in the dark corner table in the back of the restaurant. So, I could have managed that if all else had gone well--I realize that not everyone can sit in the beautiful main dining area. But, nope, just got worse. It was as if the waitstaff forgot about us at first--took a long time to get ordered and drinks came out slow. Then our food arrived and it was various version of cold ---sad sad sad. The poached eggs in the benedict were barely cooked...which was just gross. Most of us ordered the same dishes, so it was a bust all around. Since I have have had many good experiences at Cafe Modern, I will obviously go again. Maybe they have changed management or something...I hope they can get the problems fixed.
Our first visit. It won't be our last. Started with a craft cocktail, complex and refreshing. Authentic French onion soup and a fresh salad with pear, walnuts and blue cheese. The bread basket had tiny, moist corn muffins plus dried cranberry and chocolate chip scones. I had one for dessert with a cup of excellent coffee.
Our server was just lovely. I wish I remembered his name:( Service was prompt, well-paced, just right.
This was my first time to dine at Cafe Modern. I loved it!
I had the turkey sandwich, pasta salad, and a glass of Brancott Estates Sauvignon Blanc of New Zealand.
I had the Sicilian Cheesecake for dessert.
If poasible, get a table next to the floor to ceiling windows for the amazing and lovely waterfront views.
The food was not only delicious, but had a great presentation as well. I love the Sauv Blancs of New Zealand, so I was very pleased to see the Brancott Estates as an option by the glass.
The prices are not excessive, given the ambience, flavor, and presentation.
Cafe Modern is such a lovely dining experience, and serves as the perfect compliment to your visit to the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth.
I love the Modern Museum and organized a friends' get together lunch at Cafe Modern. While I always look forward to being at Cafe Modern, nine times out of ten the food disappoints. This time on a cold wintry day, I chose hot tea, the asparagus cream cheese soup (versus French Onion), and a grilled cheese/mushroom sandwich. I would have preferred something hot and healthy with vegetables. The soup was so rich, I only ate 3-4 spoonfuls. The grilled cheese sandwich was also very rich and I could only eat half. $25 . My other 4 friends also left food on their plates. I hope the restaurant studies food waste and uses the information to update its menus. The service was attentive and unrushed.
We've been to the Modern Café a few times. The food is always good and portion sizes plentiful. The drinks and dessert where great too. However on this particular occasion we were seated next to a wall where the air conditioner was blowing down on our table all evening. Within 5 minutes of our food arriving, it was below room temperature due to the cold air blowing down on us. We do enjoying coming to the Modern Café and would recommend it, but be cognizant of where you are seated.
Sarah, our waitress, was a delight and very attentive to our needs. My grits bowl arrived and was only lukewarm, poached egg was barely cooked and white was still slimy. Sarah graciously took it back and a fresh one was redelivered. Grits and pork were hot but again the egg was terribly undercooked. By then other diners at the table were more than half finished so it was not sent back again. Other poached eggs at the table were lovely but for some reason they couldn’t get mine cooked properly in the kitchen. I would not order that dish again although I adore grits for breakfast/brunch. Coffee was good and hot. Lovely view out the window table but temperature of the facility was a little too cool.
We were lucky to find this beautiful spot, which is located in the art museum, The Modern, in Fort Worth. (We had initially picked it for the menu, which is also very good--but the museum is world class). Anyway, if you can dine outside on the patio--a sublimely beautiful spot overlooking the large water pool that surrounds the notable architecture of the museum. Service was good and the food was quite nice, especially complimentary bread basket, the corn chowder, salad and Eggs Benedict. Chicken and eggs was good--but not outstanding. Coffee was delicious (necessary at brunch) and the tasting sample of truffles was fantastic. Very interesting flavors and not too much food. We will return when we are back in Fort Worth, and if you can, visit the museum as well as the collections are quite fine.
The Modern menu has terrific descriptions of food that often turns out to be unremarkable. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Eggs Benedict and the hamburgers--everything else is chancy.
I love the atmosphere and the staff and visit often before the Modern Movies in spite of, not because of, the food.
Always love eating at the Cafe Modern. The restaurant looks out onto the shallow water pond and the view is very relaxing. The decor of the restaurant is appropriately modern and minimal leaving the art to be the beautiful food! The wine and cocktail list is impressive, the food is consistently delicious and the portion size is great. I have been twice, once for Easter brunch (LOVED the purple mimosa!), and once for a holiday dinner with family before seeing a movie at the Museum's Theatre, and both experiences were excellent. Great value for the price.
Cafe Modern is a splendid place: spectacular view onto the museum's reflecting pond, excellent service, delicious food. You will never feel rushed. Great place for conversations. Beautiful outdoor area. Go visit the museum before or after. Our favorite place to bring people together.
As usual, Cafe Modern had fantastic service and food. My wife and I so enjoy sitting inside a large, but cozy space, with a view out the floor to ceiling windows of the beautiful grounds outside. It's a sublime experience we never get tired of. It's a "must" treat, even if you don't take the time to enjoy the museum itself.
