Food was subpar for the price. Pasta was way too al dente, mushroom truffle pasta smelled like a wet rag when it arrived at the table.
The fire alarm went off for at least one hour during dinner. Ruined a special evening. Other than, “I’m sorry from the waiter”, which took until the end of dinner, that was all that was said. No other discussion, no discount...nothing. Poor response time from the DC fire Department. In addition, a sad response from a quality restaurant and the manager. Another guest at the restaurant saw me at the Kennedy Center shortly after dinner and said “Wasn’t that ridiculous?! I still hear the rigging in my ears!!”
The food was great, waiter very personable. Unfortunately, as our dinners arrived, the fire alarm went off - loud enough that you could not carry on a conversation. Nobody left and it took the fire dept a good 20 minutes to arrive, and when we left they had not yet figured out how to turn the alarm off. Multiple staff members stopped by to alert us that there was no emergency and it was not their fault. Wrong answer. Very disappointing that they made no effort to offer a comp drink, or take anything off the bill. Whether it was their fault or not, the issue had a negative impact on their clients. As someone who owned a service biz for 25 years, they should have made it right for their clients and then dealt with whoever was at fault.
They lost our order and initially lied about it. It was disturbing to see others who arrived after us start eating while we were waiting. Eventually the food arrived, though our pasta did not have the requested extra vegetables. Once reminded, they promptly provided them.
Waiter and manager briefly apologized for the problems, but I feel a gesture like offering free dessert, or a discount on the bill, would have been appropriate considering extra 20-30 minute wait. No such gesture was offered.
This is a fine restaurant. We have had excellent meals and excellent service there in the past, and this meal, once it actually came, was also excellent. Everyone makes mistakes, and we will probably give them another chance in the future.
tourist trap. servers are like vultures, over serving and over attentive. ambiance is good and location is nice but far better italian options nearby.
Great food! Fun vibe. Attentive wait staff
Paid 15.00 for bottled water when asked for tap. Could have lived with that because the water was actually good. Then the other server came and poured tap water into my glass with the bottled water. Main server saw that and just discussed it with that fellow, but said nothing to us. Also, I don’t appreciate the feeling that I’m not ordering enough food. If I just feel like an overpriced small portion of pasta so be it. This is one of those places that you feel welcome when you’re ordering lots of dishes. Additionally, I only had a hundred dollar bill and when I asked for change he seemed peeved that I was asking. I guess he thought his service and a salad and pasta was worth $100. There are too many good restaurants in DC that make you feel welcome. That’s a criteria I use for return dining. No reason for you server to make you feel uncomfortable. Ruined our night.
It was a great experience for me and my date..
We had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation and then were seated in the back corner by the fire escape. Food is good but overpriced.
Nice, expensive, service polite, a bit slow. Noisy
Café Milano is one of those places that live is always busy. We got there early and asked if either we could have our table or wait at the bar having a drink. We ended up being seated shortly after arrival in a extended room at the side of the main dinner room where the bar is. Food was absolutely amazing, but the temperature in the room was cold. Service was correct.
We always enjoy the food. It is fresh and delicious. However, we think that the price of wine and liquor is inflated. We think that $25 for a glass of 'house red' that is recommended by the wait staff is too high. If that wine is going to be the one "pushed" by the staff, they should inform the guest that it is indeed $25 per glass. The price for mixed drinks is pretty high on average also. However, we do love the food from pasta to fish. It is always good. The desserts are also fresh and excellent. Just ask for the price of the drinks before you order.
I wasn’t prepare to go to the place so I didn’t dress up to match the crowd here. Still receive the service I would expect from the restaurant. Food is great. Generous portion for restaurant week menu. It’s the Italian place where Italian people go. What else I can say!
Pasta, fish and desserts. You will go right all the time. We were delighted with the service.
Cafe Milano is my favorite restaurant in DC! If you don’t have the truffle pasta, you are missing out!
Meh. I don't see why people rave about this place. And polenta is still just grits even if it is served on a fancy plate.
This was a birthday dinner and as always, Cafe Milano did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We sat in the bar area and it was noisier than other parts of the restaurant. Next time I'll ask for a different location that is not quite as "energetic."
A delightful introduction to Cafe Milano during a restaurant week lunch.
We look forward to our return visit.
The cod we got was so salty it was basically inedible as well as the pasta. Very disappointing considering the reputation and price. However the service and atmosphere was great
Wonderful food and good atmosphere. Very quiet at lunch when we went. It was not crowded.
Restaurant week lunch. Great Italian food with some modern flair.
Service was excellent!
Exceptional service, food, and value (restaurant week, lunch prix fix menu was $23.00)...We will be back, the food, wine list, and service made our date lunch delightful
Excellent food with outstanding service, Cafe Milano is a great choice for fine Italian dining in Georgetown.
You can't go wrong with any of the food selections.
Lots of smiles with service but not listening; Saying"perfect" and marching off before hearing if we felt it was"perfect ".
It was a birthday dinner and in both our reservation and greeting upon entry we noted this. Unfortunately, no acknowledgement was made of our celebration.
It felt rushed and pretentious. Given the price, it is not value for the money spent.
We have been going to Milano's for years; but as we live abroad much of the year we hadn't been for a few years. This was a disappointment.
Great food and service. Expensive, but that's what you have to expect for this kind of quality
We adore Milano and this night was no exception!!!
The food was good but quite expensive and they were rushing us to turn over the table after an hour.
We felt a little rushed tonight by the staff. The food was delicious though!
Always great — service, ambiance and food.
The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Mustafa and the staff did a wonderful job accommodating our large group. His suggestions on the menu were spot on. They even let us order off the menu like true Italian restaurants. We can’t wait to come back!
Fresh pasta and salads were excellent. However, the steaks and venison were mediocre at best. Very high price for quality of meat compared with other restaurants of similar stature. Was very disappointing. We all agreed after the meal we should have ordered pasta.
Also - waiter did not take drink orders. Very odd beginning to a nice meal. Because of timing, we had to skip cocktails. Another disappointment for what should have been a celebratory evening.
Lastly - music in background is kind of a disco-electronic pump reminiscent of a 1980s nightclub. We found it amusing as it reminded us of Saturday Night Live skits; however, it was kind of annoying after awhile. Apparently it has been playing for decades. Maybe that's part of its charm? Otherwise, very nice and festive atmosphere albeit a bit loud.
All in all, I'd go back, but definitely stick to Italian fare: fresh pasta and salads.
Cafe Milano is a perennial favorite. Busy, alive, vibrant atmosphere. It never fails to deliver.
Impeccable wait staff and wonderful fine dining for a special occasion. The veal ravioli is amazing!
Overpriced for what you get. Equivalent restaurant in New York has entrees that are 15-20 pct less expensive. Wine ordered at same time as food but arrived only after entrees. The waiter tried to make things up with free cookies for dessert, but it will still be a while before we return .
Black cod was undercooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen. “Veal chop” was pounded flat like a pancake.
Staff was outstanding and did all they could to accommodate. This has been a traditional Christmas Eve spot for us, but they are now biting off more than they can chew: too many customers; too little attention to detail. This was our last year celebrating Christmas Eve at the restaurant. Very sorry.
Small plates, expensive and average food, sterile atmosphere.
Have you ever gone somewhere and felt like you were being treated as a tourist? And by that, I mean treated like someone unsophisticated who won’t be returning to the restaurant? Unfortunately, that was my experience at a recent dinner at Cafe Milano. For the food- everyone enjoyed their pasta entrees. Fresh, complex flavors and cooked perfectly. Appetizers were mixed in reviews. The crudo was good but not excellent. Prosciutto very good, salads fine. Desserts were nicely done. In particular we liked the dessert with cherries.
As for service- it was a confusing mix of overbearing and incompetent. We were rushed to order, even though we asked to enjoy our champagne for a few minutes first. Food orders went fine. With dinner we ordered a bottle of wine from the waiter and were served the wrong wine, costing three times the amount of the wine we ordered. This caused a confusing dance of the waiter taking away the remainder of the bottle when he told us it was the wrong wine, then the sommelier visiting, then taking all of our wine glasses after we had been drinking from them, then telling us they would charge us the original price (of the wine we ordered) but let us keep the wine, and then returning our glasses. We were still charged $60 more than the wine we actually ordered but we did not complain about that. All the while we are trying to enjoy our pre-holiday dinner and have conversation not interrupted by wine glasses being pulled off and on the table. We brought 5 guests and it was frankly embarrassing.
Ambience was very nice. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays, and we easily parked in the garage next to the restaurant.
I would return for a drink and app at the bar, but for me the overall experience was not conducive to returning for dinner.
Great evening and dinner with family and friends. Service and food were outstanding.
