Café Milano Ratings and Reviews
Being italian and cooking italian food, I was not satisfacted with the food quality . Too American! ( untasty, too fast Service, few fresh foods, and no latin care of the guests)
We were triying to eat european food and found, again, it adapted to american clients.
This tends toward a traditional Italian restaurant, not Italian-American. As such, the flavors are strong, and tend toward the savory/bitter. The olive oil was of a high quality and the bread was some of the better restaurant bread I've had in DC. The tiramisu was also tasty, and less bitter than some of the other things we ate, but the cappuccino was quite strong. Note that portion sizes are on the European side as well.
10+ years ago this was a good restaurant. Now it should be retired. Noisy, wobbly table and chairs, mediocre service -- we had to share a bottle of olive oil with the couple sitting next to us -- pretty tasteless food with seemingly no attempt to make it look attractive. All housed in an unpleasant chaotic atmosphere. The opposite of intimate...more like a cafeteria or an airport restaurant. What else can I say?
Overrated Italian cuisine. Very accommodating in moving our reservation up by 2 hours. That is when the service turn poor. The waiter asked us 3 times in 5 minutes to get the food order in. Simply to turn the tables. The calamari was actually undercooked and had a glassine look and taste. I’m a serious cook & I know how to rapidly cook calamari. Ugh.... The veal Milanese and seafood black ink Pasta was excellent. The glass of $25 Cabernet was so poor; one could choke on it.
Overall, this restaurant is overrated and for the extremely poor service overpriced. We will never go back. Too many better DC restaurants to enjoy.
I thought the food was OK. Tomatoes on the Tomato & Mozzarella were not very fresh, but, the mozzarella was really good. The portion of the Risotto was smaller than I would have preferred. The Lemon & White Chocolate Cake needed more lemon zest.
The restaurant was pretty loud and difficult to hear your guests conversation even though we arrived early.
Overall not the best experience, but, with a 20-40 group of diners might be a lot of fun.
Our waiter and staff were excellent. Tasted wine and they read my face immediately and knew I needed a new bottle and another selection. The food was delish! Great suggestions from our waiter and it was a hit!
Had the special red snapper and shrimp. Unbelievably wonderful. I’m very particular about my red snapper. This was very light and flavorful.
My husband had the ravioli which was fantastic and filling for him. I was quite surprised myself.
Overall experience was warm, inviting and comforting with wait staff and food. Will definitely be back.
Be prepared for an attentive staff that is there to serve your every need with a mere polite glance in their direction.
They are very professional and anticipate your dinning needs and desires.
This level of service makes one feel as if you are a regular customer with great importance in town where "everyone is important " 😎
It was an enjoyable dining experience !
The wine list is very good but comes with a premium price.
A friend from out of town wanted to hit this perpetual hot spot, so I said sure, although I hadn't been there in several years. Nothing has changed (including the ear-shattering ambient noise). It's still good, solid Italian food of a 1990s vintage. Service is the best part, with everyone hitting their mark. My two starters were tasty: the sausage and mushrooms on soft polenta in a small cocotte especially so, then vitello tonnato, which I can't resist if it's on the menu (there was a little too much "salad" scattered on top for my taste, but it was easily pushed aside). Friend had the nice-looking green salad and the pounded, breaded veal chop (bone still attached) that filled a plate. It's not what I want done with veal, but the bites that came my way were tasty. Not much stargazing as most of the WH and Cabinet was in or en route Davos.
Entree was nothing as described in the menu! Mains: lobster with pasta for $42- lobster was over cooked and pasta was under cooked. The other main was the fillet fish which was very average, can make it at home no need to go out and eat! The exception was that the meals were well seasoned. The dessert eas the standout, tiramisu.
The waiter was annoying and kept recommending things when we didn’t ask for recommendations and then he did not recommend the tiramisu and at the end he said that he would always recommend it as its the best???
He kept hovering around us at the end for a big tip! So not worth it!
Other waiters banging dishes on the table and bumping into our chairs when walking past.
Bad experience, do not go there!
All food was good. It could be great. But it could always be better. The calamari was tastles. The ravioli was quite flat. Lobster fettucini was not very flavorful. Black pasta was of good standard. Good lighting. Mediocre service, never asked how food was.
This used to be a favorite place of ours but definitely not worth the price. The calamari tasted burnt and not simply grilled as described.
The black cod tasted poorly with a very fishy aftertaste and not the quality I had hoped for.
The menu could use an update as well.
Our server was wonderful as always and we enjoy the atmosphere, but the quality of the food definitely has got downhill.
Obviously the extremely busy night contributed to the food being average. Both Pasta dishes were Luke warm. Both also were clumpy in other words the pasta was sticking and was probably prepped ahead of time due to the over booking of patrons.A lot of people were waiting for tables. On a good note the service was very good.
