About Cafe Michelangelo
Cafe Michelangelo is a full service bar and restaurant that was started by two Italian brothers, Angelo and Michael Di Sandro, who had the desire to bring a love of their food and culture to America. In 1992, they opened Cafe Michelangelo in order to do just that. Tucked away in a corner of northeast Philadelphia, Cafe Michelangelo expands into a European style hideaway. From the fully imported Italian brick oven and cafe bar, to the extensive outdoor seating shaded by grape vines, and including two outdoor bocce courts, Cafe Michelangelo brings you right to the hills of Italy. The expansive size of the restaurant also provides the opportunity to accommodate a variety of events including live bands, dancing, reunions, and private parties.

Cafe Michelangelo Ratings and Reviews
Cafe Michelangelo is a long-time favorite. On my most recent visit I was surprised to learn they were drastically changing the menu. While there are a couple of new items that look intriguing, gone is my absolute favorite, the pizza ripiena. Because they were still in a period of transition I was still able to order it, but time will tell how the new menu plays out. I would be sad to lose a restaurant I have cherished for the last 20 years.
Great Italian food. Large outdoor area, much of it shaded . Only problem is the Philadelphia Soda Tax, which causes them to charge for soda refills; even Diet soda. I guess Philly is encouraging drinking alcoholic beverages, because now there is not much difference in the cost of drinking soda or alcohol.
I rated service a 3 but our server was a 5 it was the kitchen that caused some inconvenience. All adults received their meal but we had 3 children and it took an extra 15 minutes to bring theirs out. I will also caveat that it was Fathers Day, we had 10 in our party and it was busy. I would definitely go back.
We made a reservation through open table for 7:30pm. We get there and they said they can't accept our reservation and it will be at least a 30 minute wait and suggested going to the bar and eating there! Wow! Why have your business on opentable if you don't honor reservations? My friends and I have had quite a few dinners here but the way I was treated last time was uncalled for. We left and had a nice dinner elsewhere.
We loved Cafe Michelangelo. The staff was warm, welcoming and accommodating (especially Carrie :- ) . We really appreciated having the choice of either the brunch buffet or their regular menu. The brunch and antipasto buffets were extensive, varied and well-prepared—a great value for $21.95. When we asked for a customized plate of pasta for my Mom (she has trouble chewing/swallowing), they graciously agreed to accommodate her needs. Mom's pasta was prepared exactly how she wanted it, and she was able to eat. We're looking forward to returning soon.
My husband had the veal saltimbocca the first time we visited together and said it was better than our other favorite local restaurant so he got it again this time. I had a special which was also delicious. The homemade pasta was very light and the Aurora sauce was delicious. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be going back.
Food was excellent unfortunately that was the only good thing about this restaurant. The staff is very slow and ignorant. I tried this place as as possible rehearsal dinner spot however the attitude of the staff and the ability to handle only 12 of us was poor, I can't imagine them being able to handle 40 people. As good as the food was it's not worth returning to Cafe Michaelangelo. There are far better places that provide great service as well as delicious food. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time trying this place. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
I recently moved from Philly to Md and I was back to have a reunion with a few friends. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were seated in the bar area. I love my Eagles, too, but the bar group was too noisy to catch up with my friends.
The food was good, but the wait service seemed a bit slow.
First time here.
Came per a friends recommendation.
They did not have our OpenTable reservation, but we were
still seated very quickly.
Our waitress was pleasant enough, but seemed way over worked
and was a challenge to have her come by when we were in need
of drink refills, etc.
Food was pretty good. (my wife loved the pizza).
Overall a good time, but service needs to be improved.
This was our first visit to Cafe MichaelAngelo. The food was plentiful and it was prepared exactly the way we all asked for it to be. There was so much food. The apps were great. The beer was cold. The food was hot and tasty. There was only four of us in this visit, but I am definitely going back. There is a group of ten to twelve of us who go to dinner sometimes and I am definitely taking this group to Cafe MichaelAngelo. This was a really good stop and we will be back.
The host wasn't very patient as she searched for a open table to seat us. When I said I had reservations I was told it didnt matter. When seated, our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Food portions were generous for the prices and the ambiance was fun. Live music and bocce ball led to a good night.
We love it there!... Everyone is so friendly!... Food is generally terrific!... Always look forward to returning!... The eggplant appetizer is my personal favorite!.. I get two orders for dinner... My husband just had the veal chop special which he could not stop raving about!... Our waitress seemed a little out of sorts... Seemed to be bringing things to the table randomly... Not with any consistency... But that won't stop us from going back again and again!
Cafe Michelangelo is a consistently reliable for a delicious casual dining experience. It has a nicer atmosphere than one would expect for a strip mall. The staff is friendly and efficient, and their pizzas can't be beat. My personal favorite is the pizza ripiena. It has a liquor license, and I appreciate the house wine option which comes in varying sizes including a 1/2 carafe which is perfect for 2 people.
Amazing food as always and great service. The only down side was the musician playing breakup songs on Valentine's weekend...not a good way to set the mood. Overall, me and my girlfriend love this place and visit often. The food is always amazing and their servers are always pleasant. Only 4 stars due to the music selection
We were sitting for over 15 minutes and no one had approached us. The only way we got service was by flagging a server down and asking for help. It's unfortunate because the food was good. I had a white pizza which was excellent and my friend had steamed clams which she thoroughly enjoyed. I would be willing to give this place another try. Hopefully, they work out the service issues.
