Italian
Cafe Michelangelo is a full service bar and restaurant that was started by two Italian brothers, Angelo and Michael Di Sandro, who had the desire to bring a love of their food and culture to America. In 1992, they opened Cafe Michelangelo in order to do just that. Tucked away in a corner of northeast Philadelphia, Cafe Michelangelo expands into a European style hideaway. From the fully imported Italian brick oven and cafe bar, to the extensive outdoor seating shaded by grape vines, and including two outdoor bocce courts, Cafe Michelangelo brings you right to the hills of Italy. The expansive size of the restaurant also provides the opportunity to accommodate a variety of events including live bands, dancing, reunions, and private parties.

We made a reservation for 5:30 PM on OpenTable and we arrived at 5:23 PM. When we got there, there was mass confusion about the reservation. The hostess was no help and had no idea what we were talking about. Finally an older gentleman, who was very rude, sat us at a small table right next to the bar. The entire restaurant was practically empty at this time. Only when we left around 6:30 did the place actually fill up.

Other than that initial encounter, the food and service was great as always.

My suggestion is to not use OpenTable to make a reservation at this place and to just call.

Went for my birthday. We got a grilled shrimp Caesar salad and a grilled chicken Caesar salad which was phenomenal they literally have the best Cesar in the world then we got margarita pizza at which wasn’t that good I felt like it was too soggy and it could’ve been a lot crispier it had too much sauce also ! We also got penne michael Angelo which was good and gnocchi. Over all prices are fair service is good ! Music was very loud due to karaoke !

First of all the hostess who could barely speak English told us that we did not have a reservation, even though I received the confirmation from open table.
I ordered a dinner entree and the other3 guests in the group ordered pizza. The pizza came out first and I did not receive my dinner I asked the server where my dinner salad was that came with the meal was, he told me that I was not entitled to one, even though it was listed on the menu as coming with the meal. My dinner guests ate their pizza while I sat there with nothing. There were finished the pizza and still I did not receive my dinner. One of my guests got up and found the waiter and asked if the pasta was still coming. He said yes. I finally received my dinner and my guests had to sit there and watch me eat it. Also he did not come around to see if we needed refills on our drinks. This was a very negative experience and I will not patronize this business again.

I'm personally not a fan of the live music. Too loud. Won't deter me from returning though.

Cafe Michelangelo is one of my regular favorites. Even though their menu has changed some, I was particularly pleased that I was still able to order my favorite item (the pizza ripiena) that is no longer officially on the menu. It says a lot about the restaurant's attention to customer service. We also had a really wonderful server, Carrie, who waited on us. This is not a fancy restaurant , but you get excellent food at a good price, and it is staffed by quality professionals.

It was our first day wedding anniversary and we were looking for somewhere close to our new home to dine. It was very quaint and we’ll definitely be going back. It’ll be a great place to have dinner in the summertime.

Although they are a bit challenged with last minute open table reservations they still seated us on time and our waiter, Walter couldn’t have been nicer or more attentive. The food is incredible. This restaurant has a great vibe as well. We’ll definitely be back soon!

As soon as we got seated the waitress spilled a whole glass of ice water on my boyfriend and my coat. It took over 2 hours for our meal. The first waitress left, than we got a waiter & he was multitasking a couple of tables it didn’t work. I could tell he was over whelmed. The food was average.

Cafe Michelangelo is a long-time favorite. On my most recent visit I was surprised to learn they were drastically changing the menu. While there are a couple of new items that look intriguing, gone is my absolute favorite, the pizza ripiena. Because they were still in a period of transition I was still able to order it, but time will tell how the new menu plays out. I would be sad to lose a restaurant I have cherished for the last 20 years.

Great Italian food. Large outdoor area, much of it shaded . Only problem is the Philadelphia Soda Tax, which causes them to charge for soda refills; even Diet soda. I guess Philly is encouraging drinking alcoholic beverages, because now there is not much difference in the cost of drinking soda or alcohol.

I rated service a 3 but our server was a 5 it was the kitchen that caused some inconvenience. All adults received their meal but we had 3 children and it took an extra 15 minutes to bring theirs out. I will also caveat that it was Fathers Day, we had 10 in our party and it was busy. I would definitely go back.

We made a reservation through open table for 7:30pm. We get there and they said they can't accept our reservation and it will be at least a 30 minute wait and suggested going to the bar and eating there! Wow! Why have your business on opentable if you don't honor reservations? My friends and I have had quite a few dinners here but the way I was treated last time was uncalled for. We left and had a nice dinner elsewhere.

We loved Cafe Michelangelo. The staff was warm, welcoming and accommodating (especially Carrie :- ) . We really appreciated having the choice of either the brunch buffet or their regular menu. The brunch and antipasto buffets were extensive, varied and well-prepared—a great value for $21.95. When we asked for a customized plate of pasta for my Mom (she has trouble chewing/swallowing), they graciously agreed to accommodate her needs. Mom's pasta was prepared exactly how she wanted it, and she was able to eat. We're looking forward to returning soon.

My husband had the veal saltimbocca the first time we visited together and said it was better than our other favorite local restaurant so he got it again this time. I had a special which was also delicious. The homemade pasta was very light and the Aurora sauce was delicious. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be going back.

Food was excellent unfortunately that was the only good thing about this restaurant. The staff is very slow and ignorant. I tried this place as as possible rehearsal dinner spot however the attitude of the staff and the ability to handle only 12 of us was poor, I can't imagine them being able to handle 40 people. As good as the food was it's not worth returning to Cafe Michaelangelo. There are far better places that provide great service as well as delicious food. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time trying this place. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I recently moved from Philly to Md and I was back to have a reunion with a few friends. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were seated in the bar area. I love my Eagles, too, but the bar group was too noisy to catch up with my friends.

The food was good, but the wait service seemed a bit slow.
