Café Mercato, located in Denver, is a brand-new modern Italian restaurant, owned and operated by Giancarlo Macchiarella of Locanda del Borgo

Mercato’s light and airy atmosphere and design permeates throughout the modern space. With a large open kitchen and large wine “library”, you will feel right at home sipping on a glass of select wine while watching the chefs create your meal.

The menu at Café Mercato is based on Southern Italian fare with a lighter approach. All of the pastas and sausages are made in-house, as well as gelato and desserts. We didn't get off to a good start when the salad with "butter lettuce" in it arrived soggy and with iceberg lettuce. In addition the pears in it were canned or poached but not fresh. Not a good version of a pear salad. However, when we told our water that we weren't happy with it, he took it back and we ordered the brussels sprouts and a pasta that were both perfect. Would definitely return but would not order the pear salad.

Always enjoy eating here - great menu! The wine list this time wasn't as good as on other visits, but I still found a nice glass that I liked. A fine dinner as usual.

We had a good time- the food was delicious- but our server was always somewhere else… from finishing our meal to ordering dessert, finally getting our dessert and waiting for our check was as long as the rest of the meal- nearly an hour and a half. Will return- but only when we have time for a LOOOONG meal because of the delays

Had a delicious lunch with my parents. Food was delicious, service was great. The rattling noise from the “cooler in the kitchen” was so loud and obnoxious we couldn’t enjoy our conversation or wait to leave. It ruined the entire experience. It was surprisingly loud, irritatingly consistent, and overpowered the music that was playing. It clearly needs service or replacement. It’s too bad because it would have been nice to actually enjoy what could have been a lovely lunch.

I really enjoyed the food. It was delicious and so were the drinks. For the price you’re paying, I think that bread should be included in the meal OR if you’re paying for it separately, it should be served elegantly instead of us having to make the oils and vinegar mix and in just a plain ole basket. That felt a bit off. The waitress took a really long tim to come back to our table so we inquired with someone else to get her for us twice.

The entire meal was incredible! Best fried calamari I’ve ever had because of the addition of fried artichokes, zucchini & shrimp. The swordfish special was delicious as was the short rib ravioli. What a treat! So glad to have found a great neighborhood Italian restaurant.

We always dine here before Wings Over Rockies events. We had the pear and goat cheese salad, the risotto and salmon. Finished with the crème brûlée which we shared. We will be back.

Great food and service! The only thing that was an issue is where we were seated. They have a two person table between the wine wall shelf and the rolling door. The waiters had to squeeze through and we felt very claustrophobic as the space was very confined.

First off we asked for a booth if available but we’re sat in a walkway by the drafty patio door at a table that was pull in from the patio. We were some of the first people in the restaurant and they couldn’t even accommodate. We were sat right next to a vulgar group which made the experience even worse. The server was weird and rude. The food was okay but was expecting better quality at least it wasn’t too expensive. Overall it was a horrible experience and will never go back.

Ratings are influenced by the odd behavior of the waiter who didn't seem to know what foods were available and pushed us to order items we weren't interested in. Very confusing interactions with him. Ambience is pleasant. Plates were okay but a bit on the salty side. Not very creative or interesting with the sides since our main plates were all served with roasted cubed potatoes. This seemed more suitable to a breakfast plate rather than for dinner. Still, we may return to try some pasta dishes since our table of 3 focused on fish and chicken.
