Cafe Med Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter was great! Very knowledgeable about the food, preparation and wine suggestions. I was disappointed with the food. My meal was to come with Brussels sprouts and I got broccoli. I had the gripper special and it was ok. Our friends both ordered the pasta special that came with a lobster tail on top. Our waiter came out and said something about a mishap in preparation. So they only had 1 lobster tail and would split it between both plates. They did add some scallops. The place was not busy the night we were there and it was not late, so I do not understand why only 1 lobster tail if it is your special. The view is beautiful!
After dining here a week before, my husband selected Cafe Med for his birthday. The Executive Chef at this hotel restaurant resets the high bar serving Med/Italian cuisine utilizing the best of South Florida. Local fish is regularly on the menu, the steak is superb, (try NY Strip with Barolo wine sauce), cioppinno rich, with a little heat, filled with seafood and HUGE.. Great gelato from the Gelateria next door a great finish. Wine selection very nice; we selected a super tuscan which was not available, and the substitution was very nice. Service very solicitous, and the entire staff is welcoming. The live music (classical guitarist) was a great touch, and managed to remain in the background so that we didn't need to raise our voices to speak. Well done, we will be back!
Food was terrible especially for the price aside from the French toast which was good. Husbands steak and eggs came out well done and when we told the server she claimed she would get the manager. Came back and asked if the manager ever came by we said no and she dropped the check and said the best she could do on her own was 20 percent. We'll never go back.
This was my third time and it has been very good each time. Consistency is very important to me. The last thing you want is to be disappointed, especially in front of guests. The menu is nice, not boring, and food is nicely prepared and presented very well. My only comment to the restaurant is that your Facebook description has you as a "breakfast and lunch" place??????
Yum! Slow service all night, possibly a problem in the kitchen, not sure. Server had great knowledge regarding preparation and wines very professional. 6 people dined, 4 had 5 star meals and 2 said the meals were good. Hand crafted is so overused usually just another concoction. This bartender is 100% on his game! Can't wait to go back for martinis.
Bringing additional ambiance to the spectacular ocean view was a great solo guitarist and singer, each song choice was played beautifully. I requested a round with a good view for a birthday and they honored the request!!! Thanks for a great evening!
I have been here many times in the past and usually pretty good. Not this time . . . Service was VERY slow. Waiter was friendly but hardly present especially for how long it took for the food to arrive. Entree came with two pieces of chicken. One was good, the other was more tendon and cartilage than chicken; couldn't cut or chew. No water refill, no coffee refill, no cheese or pepper service with entrees. Usually much better. Another experience like this and I won't be back!
We've been to Café Med several times and this year we picked it for Valentine's Day. We always ask for Phil who is one of the best waiters in South Florida. And for us, they made sure that Phil was our guy. Typically, he makes some suggestions. But on Valentine's Day, I was surprised about the Priced Fixed 4 course menu. No one ever mentioned it ahead of time. Fortunately there were plenty of choices to make our selections, but we hardly ever eat four courses in one sitting. Valentine's Day felt a little bit like New Year's Eve. They were completely booked and we had a great table and we had Phil. But tonight, the kitchen was slammed. The quality was superb, but the delay in the kitchen was unfortunate. I guess it happens and since we were so pleased with this restaurant in the past, we just patiently waited. If we didn't know the place, or understand the circumstances, we might have left and never return. But I will not make a reservation on a Peak Holiday again at this restaurant.
The Butternut Squash soup was delicious. We enjoyed the Lamb Chops and the Chilean Bass. The Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Lava Cake made all the delays go away.
We had a beautiful table with a view of the ocean and perfect setting for people watching. As this is obviously a dog friendly outdoor seating there was one dog that snapped and almost bit over 15 people in the hour or so we were there and the dogs owner did nothing about it nor did the staff. But other than that which didnt affect our dinner everything was great.
Service was absolutely terrible. Waited 30 minutes for cocktails from the bar. Had to ask the manager to get the drinks for us. Then waited another 30 minutes after ordering our entrees for our server to come out and offer us coffee and dessert when we haven't even received our entrees yet! Food was brought out right away then. The food overall was very good. But it was hard to enjoy when our service was so terrible. We then asked to have one of our meals leftovers boxed up. Well they ended up throwing it away instead of boxing it. The server offered to have the kitchen make a half portion fresh for us to take home (should of offered a whole new order to be boxed but not my call). The We just said no we don't want it now. All that was done was our drinks were comped, which was only one beer and a virgin fruity drink (maybe $10 worth of drinks). Very disappointed and most likely will not return to this place.
We eat at Cafe' Med whenever we are in town (about twice a year), and have never been disappointed. Our experiences have varied, but only from good to excellent. Tonight everything was excellent from our first greeting. When we asked to change tables, because we decided it was too cold outside, they did so quickly without complaint. Our waiter, Phillip, was spot on and made the entire evening enjoyable. We ordered a bottle of white wine, which Phillip came back to say was not chilled. He opened a bottle of an alternate wine for us to try, when we said we would wait for our original selection, he poured us a glass of the alternate to enjoy (no charge) while we waited.
The food was all excellent. I especially enjoyed two specials offered that night, a calamari "steak" and arugula salad, and a fantastic shrimp and scallop pesto dish with perfectly al dente pasta. My only regret was that I did not save room for one of the delicious sounding deserts.
Cafe Med remains on our list of favorites in the Hillsborough Beach area.
The food was delicious! The portions are huge, so be sure to share. They were very accommodating with my husband and I sharing an entree.
We had 3 different people serving us - kinda confusing. One took our drink orders, another told us about the specials, another took our appetizer order, and another took our dinner order. A bit odd...wasn't sure who/how much to tip.
If you sit outside, you are right on the sidewalk - people walking all over. There are cars parked alone the street, so you can see the ocean, but the view is much better at Oceans234 or JB's.
Incredibly accommodating. We had our elderly father in a wheelchair and everyone was terrific. Ask for Ronaldo. He went above and beyond when saying yes to every revision we made to every dish. We left amazed and satisfied with the service and the product. We had the ravioli, seafood sampler and the fruit of the sea. WONDERFUL!
My parents and I love this place. The food was so delicious and it was light but left full. We shared calamari, each had a salad and we had veal marsala and chicken parmesan. The portions are huge and made for wonderful leftovers. When we went this time they had a guitar player and added to the ambiance. Our server Carter was so helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back and my husband and I will definitely be back in the near future!!
New Years Eve disaster. So upsetting. We had reservations for 9:30pm. Arrived at 9:15pm. Seated immediately. No water until 30 minutes - after asking. No drinks nor bread until an hour later. No food served by 11:30pm so at this point we left to save the little time left of new year eve we had left.
We made reservations for New Years Eve. We were extremely surprised to see a very limited menu that was way over priced. We were not warned about the menu or the price prior to arriving. There were only 3 appetizers, entrees and desserts to choose from. The service was horrendous. We had to go to the bar directly for drinks. The water glasses were not kept full. The clams casino were with clams as big as my thumb. The maitre'd tried to accommodate those of us who didn't like the choices. So that was good. But overall, dinner was a disaster. We will try it again tonight with the regular menu.
We have been here in the past but something felt different, in a less positive manner. I asked if the management had changed and was only told that the chefs had changed. We were a large group of family...some out of state visitors. Six had not been to the restaurant before. Since we hadn't seen each other for a number of years, we filled the 'wait time' with talk but eventually we all noticed that our entrees were taking a long time and asked our waiter. All but one of us were eventually served but the final entrée had been burned and had to be remade (lasagna)....all of us had almost finished eating by the time it was brought out. The restaurant did not look overly crowded especially for a Thursday night. The waiter was attentive and tried his best to make the situation less disturbing. The management offered us another glass of wine and did not charge for any of the desserts.
First timers, and we should have known better - it's the holiday season and the restaurant was filled to capacity with parties. That said, management recognized it was an "all hands on deck" evening, and handled it extremely well. Our initial table wasting and directly in the wind, with no room to go inside, so they set up a new larger table for us out of the wind. Then, the GM Diego was our waiter; he was charming and suggested a great wine for us. The 4 rating for food is because my husband did not enjoy their style of lasagna (too little cheese, though a well-flavored Bolognese sauce). My lemon chicken was delicious, and the sauce also gave great flavor to my sautéed spinach. Ambiance, were it not for the large parties, would probably go up to a 5 on other visits. Wonderful guitarist played beautiful background music. Will definitely return when we next visit the area.
