We regularly dine at this restaurant, and it's one of our favorites. However, this particular night was "off".
We came in to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and in the spirit of things tried the "moon menu". The Julia Childs inspired escargot stuffed mushrooms were great! My husband and I were sharing the dishes, so we decided to try the grouper special followed by the lamb special. First the lamb came out. Usually the fish would come out first in the sequence, but we just accepted it. We asked for it to be cooked medium well, clarifying "a little pink in the middle". They came out rare. We showed the dish to the waiter who took it back to the kitchen. Next came the fish dish. It was almost raw. We returned it back to the kitchen with the waiter. The lamb dish returned, cooked a little more, but not medium well. We showed it to the waiter, but ate it anyway. We were tired of sending the dishes back, and a little frustrated since one of them held a $50 price tag. Finally, the fish dish returned and it was fine. It just put a little damper on the night. Any restaurant can have an off night; even the best of them. Perhaps there was some one new in the kitchen. Since this was one of multiple times, we will return.
Excellent food and service. Our waiter, Ryan was amazing. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and service oriented to make your evening a beautiful dining experience. Cannot wait to return to try more tasty selections.
i ate an excellent dinner. the seared tuna main was excellent.
Still great after all these years. Like a trip down memory lane.
We used to frequent this great restaurant in the 1980s and early 90s. It was a favorite among south Florida's then burgeoning nouvelle cuisine scene.
Now only one of a few restaurants from that era still in operation we were pleasantly surprised to find owner Daryl and Chef Oilver still at the helm and delivering the same great food, service and atmosphere as they ever did.
Thanks guys for all the great memories.
The pasta I ordered was to have come with peas, but they were missing. My husband ordered a black grouper for his entree and the fish was raw in the middle
Very good food and service. Would recommend this restaurant to friends
Excellent meal!! One of
The best meals in south florida
Fabulous Father’s Day brunch - thank you as always Darrel! 😇😇😇
Pricey but the fate is inventive with a diversity of menu items.
The service is the best. I loved that as I was taking my first bite of food, our server didn't rush up to ask if everything is is alright. That said, she did check on us to make sure we were satisfied.
Too full for dessert. Will try next time.
Best food in Broward! Professional gracious service....always a pleasure
Cafe Maxx continues to be at the top of the Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach restaurants. Consistently great food!
We have been going there since the 80’s and they do not disappoint!
The Tuna Sashimi Pizza is truly heaven on earth!!!
We have gone there just to eat that!!!
Cannot get much better than Cafe Max. Loved the ambiance, we watched the Preakness. The bartender put it on for us when we walked in. Very friendly. The food and service was in a word...perfect.
Excellent food excellent service
The food is fresh and good. People are friendly. I love the food behind the glass so you can see the unique meats, poultry and fish.
Food overall was excellent as well as the service. The only negative were the desserts. We ordered the pecan pie and carrot cake. Both were just average. A little on the pricey side but will definitely go back.
Excellent food and service. Will definitely return
What a surprise! Food was amazing and the staff was wonderful. Buffalo Cauliflower was off the charts. Carpaccio was terrific. Best lamb chops I’ve had in a long time.
Excellent food.. great ambiance. Great service Expensive
Beautiful restaurant, delicious meal and great service! Highly recommend! Loved the Brussel sprouts and yellow tail. The carrot cake was also delicious! Valet parking
For years we have enjoyed dining at Cafe Maxx. Food never disappoints.
Café Maxx remains one of South Florida's best restaurants.
The tuna sashimi pizza appetizer is truly the greatest thing in any restaurant anywhere!!! We usually order two or three!!!
I had veal cordon bleu this time and it was amazing.
You never leave disappointed.
It is on the expensive side but worth it every time.
Service and food was excellent!
Food is fabulous… As always…Service was disgusting… We had to wait 20 minutes for a fork and 30 minutes for a drink After the food arrived… Which made it cold…Really a shame because we love this restaurant and the food is incomparable… Thank you to Darrel and Oliver as always, but the server was just not interested...Thankfully other staff took care of us
Way too crowded. Was excp
unfortunately this was our first time trying it definitely her last. We went on Mother’s Day I had my 3 year old daughter with me shes used to very nice restaurants like city Fish market etc. and she sits down so I have no issue with her going she was pretty good for the most part however kept getting antsy because she was hungry her food never came everybody at the tables food came first finally her cheese Burger Came which I asked for it to be medium Since she is young. It came out rare to When the waitress came to ask her everything was She looked at the burger and before I could say anything she completely understood stated that she would fix it quick and took the food. My daughter was waiting for over five minutes I tried to keep her busy but at this point I realize she’s getting antsy since everybody else is eating and we aren’t so I took her for a walk outside we play and we wait another five minutes it is now 10 minutes since the burger was taken ....As we want back in I see our waitress walking towards the kitchen open window area with a burger? I said it cannot be ....i see the waitress say something that I cannot hear to the chef.... at this point I can see the chef shaking his head and mouthing the words I don’t give a fu$* I walk towards the table praying that this is not our burger :( As we are walking my daughter starting to cry because she is so hungry of course I get to the table there is no burger everybody at the table feelings terrible At this point she looks at me and says mommy I’m hungry crying I decide that this is a terrible Mother’s Day for me watching my child cry and I was not able to eat mine and now it’s cold anyway. so the best decision then was to bite the bullet and take my daughter to McDonald’s for Mother’s Day :) best Choice I made all day for her :) Disappointing Because I was going to sign up for all the cooking classes I was super excited about this place very disappointing
I want to couch my comments with this... we are loyal customers of Cafe Maxx... one of our go-to restaurants. This visit was a little less so due to a very noisy night (understandable if they have a full crowd) and our choice of entree. EVERYTHING we have ever ordered at CM has been delightful... a culinary experience. But, there had to be a "but"... we ordered a steak for the first time and was disappointed. We are used to top-notch steaks at solid steakhouses and thought that because CM does everything so well, it would be great also. A disappointment... not as flavorful and tougher than we would expect. It wasn't "bad" so we didn't feel right to return it. We will continue to be that loyal customer but we won't order steak again... when we can go elsewhere and know it is someone else's specialty.
Service was extremely slow. Over one hour to get our food. Very, very expensive. Food is very elaborate. Most plates were good but one who was extremely big ands overwhelmingly jammed.
As always, Cafe Maxx’s excellent, professional service delivers exceptionally good, creative food.
The Manhattan style shrimp and vegetable chowder was delicious and the artichoke stuffed with pearl couscous, vegetables and 4 giant scallops was superb.
Café Maxx still remains on of the best restuarants in Fort Lauderdale.
The tuna sashimi pizza appetizer is out of this world!!! We have gone there just to order that. And the rack of lamb was incredible.
The prices are on the steep side but the food is fantastic.
Always great. Have been going there for over 35 years. Always more than satisfied.
Amazing experience, overall one of the best meals I’ve eaten in Florida. Absolutely beat out our expectations and the expectations were set pretty high based on great things we had heard about the restaurant. Looking forward to my next visit. Cheers
Great food great service. Always consistent. Not too noisy. Perfect place for any type of celebration.
Another outstanding experience at Cafe Maxx. We thoroughly enjoyed our Easter Brunch The Green Eggs and Lamb and the Smoked Salmon Benedict were incredible
The shrimp cocktail is one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Each shrimp was the size of a small lobster tail and were cooked to perfection
Can’t wait to return!
Always fabulous! Easter brunch - Darrel is the best!
Great experience. It 100% needs a renovation on their lay out and decor. Food and service are too good. So the ambience needs to match the experience!
The menu here changes every day, and it was terrific the evening we went. It gets busy, which is no surprise given the quality of the food - massive wine choice. Good place for quality dining out.
Excellent dining experience. Caviar Pie and Tuna Sashimi Pizza are delicious ! Scallop entree cooked to perfection !
