We used to frequent Cafe Matisse, but hadn’t been back since before the change in name/ ownership. The restaurant looks the same and the service is still quite good. Unfortunately, we found the food to be disappointing; Our family left talking about the fishy crudo and overall bland combinations. We didn’t feel the experience was close to the older version of the restaurant in terms of interesting and delicious offerings or value.

Celebrated my anniversary with my husband and I could not have been more satisfied. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by gracious hosts and the service continued to be outstanding throughout the night. All of the courses were perfectly timed and were delivered hot. I highly recommend the octopus offered on the first course - it was cooked to perfection! We dined by the garden during the afternoon and all of the lighting and ivy added to a very romantic atmosphere for the occasion. Will be coming back!

My visit to Matisse was a tale of two experiences. While the overall meal was good, I must admit I had hoped for a more elevated culinary journey. The dishes were solid, but perhaps lacked that 'wow' factor or unique flair I'd been looking forward to and hearing about from other diners. We started off with the octopus and burrata, short rib tacos and crab cakes (YUM), burger and duck (served a bit tepid and I was hoping it would be hotter and less dry), and finished with the cheesecake and creme brûlée. The service at Matisse was utterly phenomenal. It was, without a doubt, the highlight of the evening. Every staff member we encountered was not just attentive, but genuinely wonderful – anticipating our needs, offering helpful suggestions, and ensuring our comfort with a level of professionalism and warmth that is rarely seen. They truly set a gold standard for hospitality.

For the hype of restaurant and the price ($125 per person minimum) we were expecting something extraordinary. It was very good but unfortunately the overall experience was nowhere near extraordinary. The prix fixe menu (min $125 p/p) is comprised of 4 courses including dessert. There is no vegetarian option. For the 3rd plate they offered “American Wagyu”, for an additional cost of $20. Sadly it turned out to be a tougher than normal sirloin. We were expecting the chef to come out and inquire when we made the observation to our waiter. The only thing the waiter did to compensate was to put the bottle of still water, coffee and tea on the house”. Every other plate was very well presented and delicious. There were too many servers for the tables and it almost felt like they were hovering at times. Towards the end of the night they were busy setting up for the next day (one waiter dropped and broke a glass during the set up) and were angsty to give us the check. Sure enough, when my wife had finished her dessert, plates were promptly cleared and check was immediately presented. The noise level is too high in the main dinning room, which is small so very hard to hold a conversation, all things being equal.

From the moment you arrive at Matisse a beautiful restaurant with a stunning outdoor area you feel at home. The service was second to none. The food was excellent. Hamachi crude was beyond perfection. The second course of scallops and crab cakes were also excellent. The scallops had a smoky taste and the crab cakes were full of delicious sweet crab. I had the duck and my wife had the tuna as our third course and both were very delicious. My bananas foster crème brûlée was a great way to end the dinner. My wife had the cheese cake with a cloud like whipped cream. From beginning to end the service was impeccable.
