in particular I like to try new restaurants, order the taster menu, for two people but seeing that they play with the same sides for different dishes I did not like it, it is easier to manage a kitchen that way but for your clients it is not so nice .
As always the experience of Chef Peter's creativity was extraordinary. There is nothing on the menu that isn't utterly spectacular.
Cafe Matisse is always an incomparable dining experience. The chef's creative combinations are amazing and beautiful to look at and to eat. This time the menu seemed to include very few dishes that did not include some form of meat (I only eat fish and some poultry) which limited the choices I had which I had not found before. Regardless, the food is wonderful and the service is as well - they always make us feel as though we are favorite customers even though we only dine there for special occasions. Cannot forget to mention the decor which is dark and romantic and it is BYO.
Perfect find for anniversary dinner with my wife. Passionate and caring owner and attentive staff. Food was great too and the ambiance is a perfect balance of kitsch and beauty. I would recommend for a lovely date to anyone.
This used to be our VERY special occasion restaurant. We came for birthdays and celebrations, and brought our friends, who kept coming back on their own. Pricey, but so worth it!!!
But this time was our last time. We are never coming back. And we talked a few friends out of going there as well. Dishes literally tasted like they were made yesterday and warmed over in a microwave. Course after course we were hoping it was a fluke, it was going to get better, but it never did, up to a very disappointing dessert. Maybe it was an off-night, even though it was a Saturday night, or they just just let their standards slide. We left with a bad taste in our mouths and spoiled mood. What a shame!
Celebrated my father's birthday tonight at Cafe Matisse. Cafe Matisse is the BEST restaurant in the NY/NJ area. Chef Peter is a food genius, from the flavors he combines to the gorgeous plating of his dishes. Your dish will look almost too beautiful to stick your fork in (almost...) but when you do, your taste buds will sing with each bite you take. Larry is an absolute joy to be around and converse with, from the minute you step in the door, to your walk out to your car. The entire wait staff is incredible. They never leave you with an empty wine glass, they have expert knowledge of the menu and give wonderful recommendations. They all are a pleasure to be around and create such a fun memorable night. If you haven't been to Cafe Matisse you are missing out... make a reservation ASAP!
We celebrated our 45 th anniversary this week on a Sunday. Sat outside and it was really very pleasant. The staff was excellent, very attentive and friendly. The food lived up to all the rave reviews we have read. To top it off it's BYOB. It's pricey so good the special occasion.
Just a fantastic dining experience. The service was exceptional.
Attentive service. The Chef utilizes a vast array of unique and robust flavors for his mains and the deserts are to die for. Loved the terraced courtyard for outdoor dining. The Halloween décor was stylish and amusing. Its going to be one of our go to places.
Creative, delicious food set in a funky yet intimate setting. Attentive waitstaff and the 3, 4, or 5 course tasting menu will satisfy and delight you. Plan to spend at least 2 hours.
Only 4 star restaurant in Bergen County lives up to its billing.
Great food and service
Very attentive staff and delicious food. Although one would consider this 'fine dinning' expect to spend $$ for the meal. If offered the table in front of the back door, decline...
Not a comfortable table.
This was our fist visit to this restaurant. We were told of this restaurant by a family member who said they thought it was outstanding. And outstanding it was. The service was excellent; they were all very attentive and gracious. The ambience was very attractive, with a romantic feel. The food was amazing. Every dish we had was extremely tasteful and beautifully presented. The overall dining experience superb. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special dining experience.
Inventive and delicious cuisine all prepared by Chef Peter Loria. Our server Ahmed was excellent .
No fall should go without having a dinner in the garden of this restaurant. At least, I never miss one. For years, we go there in September - GARDEN IS THE MUST! - food is delicious, I like the concept of it: all small portions, all the same price.
We'll come again.
The place is beautiful. Small but well spaced out. The outdoor area is truly something. It's a little pricey, but it was truly worth it. Delicious, different, nice.
Absolutely love this restaurant!
Cafa Matisse is unique that's what makes is special.
It's not your average restaurant.
the place is awesome (comfortable, intimate) and they have lovely-nice super friendly staff that takes care of you the whole night without overwhelming you and being very professional. We ate in the outside garden, all the food was amazing and everything was worth it. I'll definitely go back.
I come here every year for my birthday and it just never disappoints. Each mouthful is artistry. There is no better place in NJ or NY, period.
The chef and staff clearly care about your dining experience. Not just a meal but a true experience. Items I would never dream of combining we incredible together. Looking forward to my next visit.
Beautiful venue outside dining. My wife's birthday and she was very happy. Wonderful meal and service. Truly a memorable night.
Cafe Matisse is an absolute gem. I would recommend it to my most jaded Manhattan foodies. I have been lucky to have been able to dine in some of the best restaurants in the world and Cafe Matisse has never disappointed in me in 30 years of special occasion dining.
Such a special place!
Fantastic service, great food. Friendly staff. We had a great time
Found Cafe Matisse a complete and pleasant surprise. While two entree courses were superb. The butter cake dessert blew me away.
Scrumptious food, beautiful presentation, lovely setting outdoors. A bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Cafe Matisse is such a gem! My parents have been going there for years for their own anniversary, and my partner and I have taken on the tradition as well!
Chef Peter is truly an artist, and the food is beautiful and delicious. The grazing menu changes slightly with the seasons, but I have never been disappointed or taken a bite that wasn't incredible. (Although, I highly recommend the beet tartare.. and the brown butter cake for dessert if they are available!)
The service is impeccable, and the maitre d', Larry, is always a pleasure! (He is so warm and personable - you always feel right at home when you walk in and see his smiling face.) I don't usually like to be heavily waited on, but their staff is trained so well that you don't even notice when they slip in and top off your wine (it's BYOB!), or change out your silverware. They are attentive without being overbearing, making it a seamless dining experience!
If I could give Cafe Matisse more than 5 stars, I would. Make a reservation, you won't regret it!
We have dinned at Matisse many times over the years but Sunday's dinner was outstanding. Looking forward to returning!
Food was delicious and ambiance was different .. they only served either 3,4, or 5 course meals where you pick from a certain menu .. the portions are a little bigger then appetizers .. it was expensive and although the food was delicious it was a bit overpriced for the amount of food that you get .. it is definitely worth a visit though
Absolutely amazing!!! My wife and I went here for our 10 year anniversary and enjoyed ourselves. Every dish/course was a work of art and delicious. We went with 4 courses each and it was more than enough food. We can't wait to go again to sit outside and dine.
this is a very nice venue for a special occasion. my husband and i celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary. the ambiance is perfect , very cozy . the decor is delightful , moroccan i would say , very colorful. they also have a lovely outside courtyard dinning area. if and when we make a return visit we would ,weather permitting, dine in this courtyard. food was wonderful and very unique, loved every bite. service was very warm and attentive. did i mention that the food was unique? very different, yet delicious. will return . louy
Excellent food with excellent service. Great ambience . They can do nothing wrong.
I don't know why we waited so long to go to Cafe Matisse. Food and service were exquisite except for when suddenly the kitchen seem to have shut down and no one was receiving food for 20 to 30 minutes. You definitely want to enjoy a slow superb meal here but that was a little too long
Never disappoints...a wonderful experience from start to finish!
The food and Sevice was excellent l can't wait to go back the best
We go to Cafe Matisse each year on our anniversary, and it never fails to deliver the goods. Great, creative foods served in a beautiful setting, whether you're eating indoors or out.
An amazing experience! The food was to die for, service attentive and excellent. could not have asked for more.
Place is always 5 star from the service to the food. Everyone is so knowledgeable and professional yet personaba . I work for a luxury hotel and your food and service too theirs.
