Cafe Malaga Ratings and Reviews
Anniversary early 5:00 pm dinner reservations for two. The place is in disrepair from our last visit. The entry door collapsed and flopping at the bottom with the glass panes stained and dirty, creates a very poor first impression.
There were no other guest at that time, and we were seated in a two seat table by the windows. My wife asked for a larger table, the brunette hostess, showed mild irritation, "uum, okay?". Later that hostess appeared to be the senior staff present. Our waitress was excellent, both attentive and pleasant.
The menu has some changes, portions seemed larger, tapas were mostly good, inconsistent warmth, waiting maybe. There were at least 3 instances of going down the menus with the waitress, needs to make another choice because items were not in stock. The waitress did not seem flustered with not being able to deliver; that can't be a good sign. The desert menu was also reduced with what seemed premade items.
Its a significant downgrade in appearance, service, quality of food, and overall experience.
We were seated right away but then had to sit and wait and wait and wait....then we ordered and they were out of 2 of 5 things we ordered. Then we waited again....and waited....then they came and asked us what we ordered. The food is truly delicious, but bring someone you can talk to for hours.
Restaurant accommodated 10 people but the one server was extremely slow. There was no one else in the dining room two couples outside small plate menu was interesting and the foodwas very good. Small plates came for one or two but even the second for one were enough for several people to have a nice taste we heard it was going out of business. Sorry to lose a tapa restaurant, but there might not have been an audience for unusual food, or people may not have endured the slow service I would go back
It would have been perfect had we not been sat outdoors. It's unfortunate that the waiter didn't tell us there would be a mob of mosquitos due to the stagnant water sitting in the unused fountain. My friend and I would have enjoyed ourselves much more were we not being eaten alive
•Table for 5 was not ready by reservation time. Tried to squeeze us into a table for 4 and then reluctantly accommodated us.
•Food took a while.
•didn't have several items available on the menu. Or iced tea.
•too slow in replenishing water.
Was hoping for a better experience after we were turned away one evening for not having reservations although The website clearly states NOTHING about reservations were required. It you're not willing to accommodate walk-ins, then put reservations REQUIRED on the website.
Waited 10 min to be suited and another 10 min to be greeted. Waiter came over with water and said he would be back in a few minutes. I explained that we were ready to order and he told me he would be back, he had to greet other tables. I asked to speak to mgr and was told he was not there...he had just left. So we followed his lead and left.
Surprise Birthday party for my wife and 10 adults. Food was marginal and brought out very sporadically. Margaritas were sent back.. Wait staff disappear.. 2nd time this has happen at this restaurant.. Wait staff very inattentive.. Will have 2nd thoughts as to whether or not to return.
Was very disappointed on the level of service. After 15 minutes, we had to flag down the server to let her know that no one had come by to take our drink orders, bring water, etc. Food was slow to come out, salad had the wrong dressing on it and kabobs were below their usual standard. To top off the evening, there was a group of children throwing rocks and sticks close to the patio where we were sitting. We notified the server and she shrugged her shoulders as to say"what do you want me to do about it?"
We have been fans of this restaurant ever since we moved to McKinney, but this trip was not a good experience. Would still recommend you try it based on the fact this was the first time we left disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad night.
Cafe Malaga is a beautiful place to entertain, laugh with family and friends and enjoy delicious food! There is wonderful live music, dining outside is must and the food is great. After we ordered our dinner, we did not receive our food for 55 minutes. When it finally did arrive, it was hot and very good.
We love Cafe Malaga and frequent the patio with our friends. On Saturday, April 23, we received poor service and sub par food. The beef kebabs were charred beyond recognition and the chicken piri piri had the most unappetizing texture. As a group, we chalked it up to the kitchen being a little overwhelmed. But, is that really an excuse? It's a Saturday in spring with nice patio weather and there were open tables available.
I write this fully prepared to state that we will be back to Cafe Malaga well within the season. However, we'll cross our fingers for an experience more like our visit prior to this most recent one.
We've gone to Cafe Malaga several times, and had great experiences, so we decided to visit to celebrate our 25th anniversary. But this time it was pretty average. Food was just average. Our waiter was busy training someone so was distracted. He allowed us to make an order mistake - we ordered a cheese plate, and accidentally ordered two of the same cheese. My mistake, but an attentive server would have confirmed that's what I wanted rather than plopping two servings of the same cheese in front of me. The most annoying aspect was the band. A rock band just is not the ambience for a romantic evening eating tapas on the patio. We finished quickly, and enjoyed dessert elsewhere. Sad - we enjoyed our previous visits.
When the weather is good this place is like going on vacation. We love the huge patio and yard and the band was great. This place is really fun for large parties. However, you have to go in with the attitude that this will be very leisurely dinner and not expect quick service. We are never in a hurry here because we love the atmosphere and the tapas are good. Beware, they can add up quickly. Our favorites are Piri Piri and Lamb Chops.
Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. I had made reservations, when we got there someone without a reservation had apparently just picked our name off the list and had just been seated. No prob, they still had a table. This restaurant has tapas or small plates. It was our first time, so it would have been nice for the server to ask if we had been there before. When we asked to substitute something, the servers response was "nope". Nope?? What's with that. We almost left, but wanted to give it a real try. It's so beautiful, but I wouldn't recommend it.
This is our favorite restaurant in the area. The perfect mix of menu. If you like good beef, try the Solomillo. You cannot get a better deal for the cut of meat and flavor. Its meat and potatoes the way they were meant to be made. The menu goes on and on. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
This is the time of year for live music. We had the pleasure of witnessing a true prodigy guitarist. Unbelievable talent.
Once again, it was an overall outstanding experience. We will continue to return to this diamond mine.
The food was not what we have had before. The bacon wrapped dates were overcooked and chewy. Pan Con Tomate was flavorless and the bread was hard. The Solomillo meat was well done and dry. The mussels in marina were very good. Our waitress was very busy with a large party that came in right after us, so our service was very slow. It was a busy weekend in McKinney, so hopefully, this was just a bad night.
Love this restaurant but really missed the notes section to the restaurant. Wanted to sit outside and under cover with rain coming. Voicemail for restaurant did not work. Had to stop in person. All worked out but really need note section back. Love this restaurant!
