Cafe Madrid Ratings and Reviews
Really disappointed. We arrived prior to reservation time and waited for about 5 minutes before there was even anyone at the front desk (there were about 10 other people waiting as well). When the hostess finally arrived, and she checked in everyone in the room (more waiting), then we waited for at least another 5 minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, we discovered that she had given us the wrong menus.
The food was sub par. The Brussels Sprouts were amazing, but that’s it. We ordered salad based on the server’s recommendation. The salad was meh, the beef tenderloin was not a $30 plate, in fact I’ve had much better for much less, and the paella was just not good. Period. If you say you’re a Spanish fine dining establishment, you’d better be sure you have good paella. Cafe Madrid will not be seeing us again. Again, really disappointing. We were looking forward to a really great meal for a holiday date. Instead, we spent a lot of money for really mediocre food when we could have gone somewhere where we knew we could have counted on the value as well as the service and ambience expected. So sad.
Not sure where the good reviews came from, I’ve spoken to several people since who also say they will never go again.
The chicken soup was fantastic. The service was terrible. After bringing the food, the server never returned except to ask about dessert and then later, to bring the check. She never returned for payment so I had to go find the cashier to pay. The noise level was far too high for lunch--turn down the music volume!
We have been to Cafe Madrid twice before and The experience was very Memorable. We really miss the old location which had incredible ambience. Current location not so. Initially ordered two glasses of wine and when the waiter told me that my nine dollar glass wine was not available but he could substitute it with something similar in taste but also double in price which he didn’t tell me till I asked. The salad was good very fresh but was certainly not enough for two as the waiter had implied. My entrée was salmon wrapped in phyllo dough and my husband got the duck breast. Both were tasty the presentation was not nice and the serving size was small. After years of not visiting this place and having very fond memories, we will not go back again
Not sure why we (party of 2) were seated in the back room when host knew there was a very large (and loud) party seated well before we were done. We could hardly hear ourselves talk. We asked to be moved to another location, and were nicely accommodated. Was still a disruption to our evening. Better seating plan could have avoided this.
Me, my wife and our 16 year old daughter enjoyed a dinner out at Cafe Madrid Saturday night. It was an excellent experience as the food, service and presentation were all very enjoyable. It was our 2nd time there this year and we’ll be returning for a third! Regards.
Food was great as always! Seems like they were a little short staffed. Our waiter was very nice but had a whole room to attend to and the table behind us had some issues, so we were overlooked a few times. We weren't in a hurry and you could tell he was trying hard to make our experience a pleasant one.
We enjoy dining at Madrid. The food is almost always consistent and delicious though it seems to be getting into a rut. New tapas and innovative cuisine would be a welcome addition to those who love this neighborhood gem on a regular basis. The restaurant is is a beautiful place. Our service was congenial but oddly slow and scattered, in comparison to past experience. This is a place where you want to feel in "good hands." Suggestions were solid and offered solicitously; however, another server offered more info/options to a table next to us. The main dining areas are lovely, with a warm and inviting color palette. We love the booths. The music piped into the room was just plain odd. With sumptuous food and a romantic atmosphere, why wouldn't you offer romantic guitar music (Rodrigo) or inviting Spanish vocals?! While the Macarena is a fun song it's not what you want to hear on a romantic evening out.
Though we have been welcomed warmly in the past, the invitation to join in a special dining experience, in a familial atmosphere, is what drew us to The original on 3300 South. Still, we are so glad that this restaurant is in our neighborhood!
I've eaten here before years ago and loved the food. This time I was disappointed. The food was good but didn't wow me. I felt it was overpriced. What really bothered me had to do with our wine. We ordered a bottle of wine that was around $80. Our waiter cane out, with a different bottle, and said they were out of what we ordered. He offered us the one he had brought out saying it was very comparable to what we ordered. We didn't think you ask about the price because we assumed it was "comparable". When we got our bill the new wine was almost $50 more per bottle. I expected more from Cafe Madrid.
We really enjoy tapas, so we decided to give Café Madrid a try. It's worth the rather tedious drive to get there. There is good parking and the ambiance, if a bit fussy for my tastes, is pleasing. We did find the service no better than cursory, they could definitely improve that. The food was quite good and the tapas that we ordered were served promptly. The spice level was a little disappointing for us, on the conservative side. We'd go there again.
Amazing as always - we know the menu back to front, but are always swayed by the incredible specials and were not disappointed. This time around we sampled a 'vegetable apple pie soup'. Sounds crazy... but Cafe Madrid can always pull off something this unique.
Raul - our server - took great care of us as always and of course we were visited by more of our favorite folks at the restaurant such as Tomas. Thanks!!
My wife and I love the decor and music. We feel we are in Spain. The food is a bit pricy so you expect the best. The gazpacho was so good I went home and made it the next day. The duck with apples and orange sauce was specatacular. I ordered seafood paella but there was very little seafood and a big plate of saffron rice. I was disappointed with the lack of seafood and felt it was not worth the price. I won't order that again.
