Overpriced...not a great steal...
We have eaten a lovely dinner at Cafe Madison. The food is usually very good and thought we would try the Mother's day brunch. We were very disappointed with the ambiance, the amount and quality of food and the price. It was very overpriced for the food that was served. For that amount of money you would expect that there would be a beef carving station and more choices of food. There was one pasta dish that was overcooked. No cooked vegetables just salad. No omelet station. The one highlight was that the staff at least were attentive. We will not be back for the Mother's Day brunch.
Usually excellent faire, however I was dissappointed with the mothers day brunch. For the cost ($33 pp), it was nothing special. Basic scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, ham. Alot of sweets and desserts. Smoked salmon was very nice, but no bagles, toast or cream cheese.. The hot lunch type items were basic. Again I love their food, but this was less than what i would expect for The Madison.
My first time there and I loved everything about it! I celebrated my 30th Birthday there with friends on May 12th. The staff was AWESOME. I will definitely be back again!!!
I would not recommend this place. The food was not prepared correctly and the service was not adequate for a restaurant that charges the prices they do.
Good appetizer of medallions of tenderloin beef with a creamy garlic cauliflower puree & cured tomatoes. The asparagus soup with mint was different & tasty. Double cut boneless pork chop was tender & juicy with some yam potatoes & ordered a delicious side of fresh green string-beans.
My friend had the lamb osso bucco with the gnocchi carbonera. Portions were generous. Pomegranate martinis were nice and chilled & flavorful. Dessert was hot apple-turner overs with vanilla icecream (turnovers were a bit small).
Our waitress, Lee, was friendly & efficient. There was live jazz music at the bar which you can hear in the main dining room. It created such a nice relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. I like Cafe Madison and recommend it for a special night of fine dining and great music.
The table was ready and beautifully set for our Party of 8. After we were seated we were given just the right amount of time to browse the menu and order. We all ordered different selections on the menu and they all came together and tasted delicious, cooked as requested. The service was excellent and our server was especially pleasant. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.
Beautiful dining room with live music. Artistic presentation but does not skip on portion size. My rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and contained 7 chops.
The server was very enjoyable and helpful in making our dinner selection. The room is beautiful. The view outside, not so much. (Train Tracks. Old buildings). The food was well presented. We will be back.
We come every year for our anniversary and birthday. We always love it. The bartender Kristina was great and my drinks were perfect. Leo was our server last year and we happened to have home again. And he is great.
Was not pleased with our seat. We had a 2 top right by the window. I did request a more intimate table.
Overall it was nice. Did miss the lobster bisque.
Everything about this place was exceptional. The food was incredible, the music was awesome and I can’t say enough about our waiter Edward. Definitely will be coming back.
As always service was outstanding, the food was impeccable and the ambiance is spectacular. That is why we are regulars and always treat our out of town guests to enjoy and appreciate. Could not recommend it any higher than always excellent.
We enjoyed a fantastic meal and celebration with our family for Easter dinner. Always has been consistent with great service. Our server Julie was excellent and professional . Very nice place. Our favorite spot.
Café Madison was the perfect place to celebrate our Easter dinner. The pre fixe menu offered a great variety of delicious choices, the piano music created a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere (even though the restaurant was totally booked) and Kimberly, our server, was the best. She was cheerful and so welcoming she made us feel pampered and very comfortable. We couldn't have enjoyed our holiday dinner more! Because of such a great experience, we expect to return to Café Madison again soon.
As always, the food and service were excellent. Classiest place in the area.
Our most recent visit to Café Madison was lovely as always.
Unfortunately chef Jack Connor and his wife aren't there anymore. I've been there many times and it was my favorite restaurant but I can really tell the difference in the service and the food.
I went in on a Tuesday because of the many specials advertised online. Server never mentioned the specials, did not offer wine or any other drink. She seemed to the in such a rush even tho it was a slow Tuesday night. My husband's prime rib came in cold and the salad that comes with it never came... we were never given options for the 2 sides that comes with the dishes. Server just added whatever she felt like.
Really poor service.
Had higher expectations having been here before. Our granddaughter wanted steak. We thought the Madison could do that. The filet was cooked to medium rare perfectly but arrived barely warm. It didn’t have depth of flavor. The green beans were wrinkled and tasteless. The salmon was hot and tasty as well as the swordfish. Appetizer calamari good and the ahi tuna appetizer very good. The dessert offerings were what you get everywhere. We ordered - apple crisp - the waitress returned to say they were out. We decided the tiramisu and cheesecake did not seem enticing. The waitress said the kitchen could whip up brownies and ice cream. That we’d love it. Turned out to be room temp bland tasting brownies.
The waitress was very friendly and apologized for the wait. Very slow and we were one of two tables with customers! I doubt it was her fault. Something wasn’t right I suspect in the kitchen.
The bill was about 140. Plus tip. Very sorry but not likely to come again.
I love this restaurant. The food is awesome and the service was good. I had a problem with the leaf of the table falling into my lap continually and when I asked to be moved and was denied, I asked to speak with the manager who moved us immediately.
Took a half hour to finally get a drink at the bar. Tried ordering multiple bottles of wine and every time they came back and said they were out of the wine I had chosen. Food was average and service was just OK. Good ambience but they really need to work on a few things with the bar and wait staff.
The atmosphere and music are very nice here. The violinist at the bar was outstanding. Overall, food is good but pricey for the area so you expect an experience like a city restaurant but it falls short. We had trouble getting a cocktail in a timely fashion and the restaurant was nearly empty. Basic grilled fish and meat were done nicely . The cafe cannot prepare its duck properly so I suggest they take it off the menu. The first time out I requested crispy skin and meat as the chef would normally prepare it. It came out looking like burnt charcoal and the breast meat was well done(should have been rare). The second try was better- the confit was good and tender, crisp skin but the Muscovy breast was nuked and not edible. They took it off the bill but the experience was not good.
We split a T-bone steak between 2 of us; it was cooked perfectly, flavorfully spiced. Cheesecake dessert, however, was uninspiring.
The food and service were both excellent as usual. We have never been disappointed here. The classiest place in the area.
Once again, I have nothing but raves for the food, service, and convenience of this dining experience. Edward was an efficient, attentive server without "hovering".
Very impressive. Good food, excellent service and enjoyable atmosphere
GREAT AMBIANCE! WONDERFUL SERVICE, WONDERFUL FOOD EXCEPT FOR MY $39 T-BONE STEAK. THE FLAVOR WAS GREAT BUT THE MEAT WAS TOUGH.
Edward is always a great server
Diane is a great hostess... makes us always feel welcome
Chef always says hello
Food is always good....along with great service and very eclectic setting. They do a lot of events there also. We usually go for a special occasion; this time was Valentine's Day. They had a special 4 course menu or you could order ala carte.
Just moved to NJ and found this on Open Table. Was close to home and LOVED it would go back !!
We got the filet/ lobster special for Valentine’s Day. The filet was good but we were all(all 4 of us)) disappointed with the lobster. We were all picturing a small tail but instead hit a couple little pieces!!
Love this place. We had outback wedding reception here and that was amazing as well. Love the staff !
Cafe Madison and Chef Connor continues to provide a good product with changes that keep the experience fresh.
Was surprised with their limited "winter" menu. Felt somewhat rushed by our server who kept coming back asking for our orders. The restaurant was literally empty at the time. The food was very good except for the New England Clam Chowder which was more like broth rather than a creamy clam chowder.
The atmosphere is this restaurant's most redeeming quality.
The food is very good, but the menu is small and limited. The waitstaff is friendly, but we have had slow service mostly every time we dine here.
On this last visit, we sat at a high top to have a cocktail before being seated for dinner. However, after waiting 15 minutes without anyone taking our drink order, we decided to be seated in the dining room. It took an additional 20-25 minutes to get our cocktails.
Never go on a holiday! Thanksgiving was over booked and one person in our party never received his entree after everyone was finished their meal. The management was apologetic and did compensate for our meal, but it took quite some time before we wanted to dine there again, because it really did ruin our dining experience on that visit.
With all being said, we still do recommend this restaurant with the above reservations.
This was our first time dining at Cafe Madison. They had nice specials. Two in our party had the filet and shrimp combo and loved it. Another had the crab cakes that had lots of jumbo lump crab. I had the branzino with risotto and I ate it all. I didn’t care for the house salad. Others liked the butternut and seafood soups, and the seared tuna.
Good service, great atmosphere, excellent food, at the right price!
We enjoyed our dining experience much. Our server, Edward, did a great job of explaining the specials of the evening, and gave us an opportunity to enjoy our cocktails before placing our orders. We both ordered fish: I had the organic salmon which was prepared perfectly and my wife had the Swordfish special which was outstanding. I would be remiss if I failed to mention how enjoyable the music was. Great selection of songs and at the perfect volume.
We always enjoy our dinners there and highly recommend this restaurant.
ambiance and service was outstanding. food was actually disappointing... just OK. For the prices being charged I expected more flavor, and slightly bigger portions. I guess the ambiance offset the food.
Our second visit to Cafe Madison was great overall. Food was very good. Lobster and crab cakes were fantastic and the filet special was delicious although the steak was slightly over cooked (medium well rather than medium). Service is fabulous. This place is so inviting.
Nice place, never disappoints for ordinary dining or a special occasion. Expensive but worth it.
