Latest of over perhaps 20 meals at Cafe Lux, usually before Lincoln Center performances. We are big fans, and the restaurant has been delivering a consistently high dining experience for many years. Our latest trip was a little sub-par. The restaurant changed its computer system and lost our seating preference, which was a disappointment. Our waiter was willing but very inexperienced, generally not familiar with the menu or wine list. We both started with the octopus appetizer, which was very good. Then we had the salmon (very undercooked but no time to send back with the curtain looming) and the loup de mer (decent but not up to prior standards). The pre-theater prix fixe is a decent deal and we paid $84 pp, including coffee, 3 glasses of wine, tax and tip. We will return to Cafe Lux and trust that they will resume their reliably high standards.

I was mystified to get a report from you that I had "points" for

attending Cafe Lux. What are these for? How do I use them?

You don't explain anywhere. Why is that?

Crowded, noisy, nice staff. Food varies. Fish dishes seem to have been prepared ahead of time & then heated, a bit dry & flat. Ice cream sundaes are the best we've had anywhere, ever.

We have been to Cafe Lux sooooo many times- our favorite place in the neighborhood. The most favorite manager left for a goat farm so we don't feel the personal attention we used to.
We almost always get the same- salad with egg on top for my husband and regular salad for me to start then steak frites for the husband and cheeseburger for me. Always delicious. Unfortunately this time I ordered the burger medium as usual and realized as I was eating it that it was medium rare and waitress confirmed. They very nicely sent out another, but this one ended up worse- rare on the inside and burned on the outside leaving me without much to eat. They were very nice about it and took the burger off our bill. The fries were still OUTSTANDING as always. We know this was a one off incident.

Our friend lives nearby and joined us for dinner; she suggested the restaurant. We were seated right away. Our waiter had a fabulous smile and was delightful and knowledgeable about the menu. One of us had the steak tartare and devoured it. Another of us had the ribeye special, which he pronounced perfectly cooked. Another of us had a hamburger and salad. Each dish was perfectly prepared, hot things hot, cold things cold, the seasoning was spot on. The cocktails were great. I love this place and look forward to returning. It is a classic and it's a classic for a reason. Everyone who works there is excellent at his or her job.

I had the most wonderful experience this past Sunday . I was an hour early for my reservation, the incredible hostess sat me and my guest as we waited 45 minutes for our guest. We weren't hassled to order, to drink, or to get up from our table with any time frame. Unbelievable. The service was great, my omelette was delicious.

Very good brunch -- well-prepared, with many choices. A lively, crowded room, reservations necessary on Sundays. Efficient, non-intrusive service.

I have been to Cage Luxembourg several times in the past and it is a solid place with a great vibe and location. The meal was OK, nothing fantastic, but pretty reliable. The Oysters could have been pulled from the shell better and the mignonette was terrible. The salad was extremely fresh and well dress and the steak was prepared perfectly. I will definitely keep this restaurant as a go-to pre-theater around Lincoln Center, but will also try to augment my list and find better options.

We have been to the Luxembourg several times before events at Lincoln Center. We usually enjoy the inventive cocktails; my husband loves the mezcal negroni! On our latest visit, we arrived early so had a drink at the bar--my husband had the negroni of course, and I had the 3 Naked Ladies. Both were great, as was the friendly bartender. For dinner, I had perhaps the freshest tasting green salad I ever had and my husband had the chicken liver which he enjoyed also. For dinner, he had the loup de mer (branzino) and I had the bouef bourgignon, which was the only disappointing dish I ever had here. It was just WAY too salty! I should have returned it, but managed to eat one piece of the meat and a few of the mushrooms...maybe it was just an off night. For dessert, my husband ordered the bread pudding which was exceptional. By the time we left, the place was getting pretty noisy, and busy--but it was a Saturday night after all. overall, I would recommend eating here, especially the mussels and frites which I've had a few times before..

We come often, even had a very serviceable Thanksgiving dinner with my two daughters. The food is always good, the oysters outstanding, the service friendly yet professional and yes, they have the best burger in the city.
However, the other night, we had a bus man asking us about 5 times if we were ready for him to remove the plates. My dinner companion was still eating. It seemed that each time she put her fork down, he was there, asking if we wanted him to clear the table. By the fourth time, my friend was pretty annoyed. We sat down at 5:30, and I told them when making the reservation that we had a screening to get to and needed to leave by 6:30, so it wasn’t like we were lingering at table. Other than the very enthusiastic bus man, and the rather snooty Maitre d’, it was the usual pleasant experience.

Food was great! I had the spinach eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the potatoes were wonderful - crispy and flavorful. We also shared the French toast for the table. Rich, not too sweet! I just wish they gave more berries! Go early and make reservations as it fills up fast!

I've been eating there for many years and this is the first time that I've been disappointed. The Bouef Bourguignon tasted as though it was made with smoky, salty BBQ sauce. The maitre d' said they didn't use such a sauce, and that the taste was probably due to the lardons in the sauce. Ok if you like BBQ, but not if you like Bouef Bourguignon.

Food was good but manager was super rude with our table just because we had 3 children ( ages 8 and older) as part of our dinner party. Children were well behaved and just happily chatting but we were forced to leave the restaurant before desert. It is a pity, I will never again go to this restaurant which is close to my home.

We were at Cafe L for New Year’s Eve. Our reservations were late, 10:45. We sat at the bar first and the bartender was attentive and adorable. Once we were seated for dinner, we were served expeditiously but no one rushed us at all and the food was delicious. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. We had a wonderful time.

I have had New Year's Eve dinner here for the past several years(8-10pm). I have always liked the good food and festive atmosphere and could always have pleasant conversation because the noise level was tolerable.
This year, for some reason, the volume was turned up at 9pm and the constant beat of the bass interfered with what could have been a more enjoyable experience.
We discussed this with the Matre'D who said nothing could be done about the volume.

Sadly, will consider finding a new place next year.

Lovely little "neighborhood" bistro; we went for brunch. Hostess and wait staff were attentive, pleasant and timely; food was absolutely delicious. Simple but perfect brunch menu; "no frills" but excellent preparation of classics. We loved it and will make it part of our favorite NY restaurants.
