About Cafe Luxembourg

In 1983, Café Luxembourg opened its doors to become the quintessential neighborhood bistro of the Upper West Side. The dining room of this charming 90 seat restaurant glows in the warm light of the Jean Perzel fixtures and antique mirrors.

Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.

The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.

Food was very good as usual but was very disappointed that we had to wait a full half-hour after our reservation time to be seated (2pm; our res was at 1.30). At $103 for a Brunch for two, plus a tip (which we wanted to be generous on bc the wait wasn’t the waitress’ fault), I do expect better, especially since I’ve come here many times...

Always reliable, always satisfying. Undimmed after all these years. Perfect balance between a bit of swanky style and comfortable neighborhood standby.

If you are going to an event during this season plan not to have your reservation time honored we were seated half an hour late and basically ate in about an hour. Saturday at lunch is incredibly noisy busy and overcrowded
This did not happen during the summer but its holiday season....
food adequate
My friend ordered hamburger and pomme frites
Looked to me like hamburger was over done....

My daughter was in from out of town and we wanted to go to a fun spot with good food. Cafe Luxembourg was the perfect choice! Thankfully, we had our Open Table reservation because the wait without was about 45 minutes.

Cafe Luxembourg is a vibrant spot in an attractive setting a short walk from Lincoln Center. Considering food, ambience, and price, it's hands-down the best dining option in the neighborhood for a late-night post-theater supper. Excellent service. Very good bistro cuisine, good wine list and a full bar (and a terrific burger if you want something more casual).

Sent back my entree. The fish special--Snapper-- was so undercooked, it looked like sushi.
Very underwhelmed. This is an attractive restaurant that is not up to snuff with anything more ambitious than a burger and fries.
My friend and I meet here every Christmas season before a concert. I was very disappointed.

Lovely ambiance especially this time of year — we went for an early lunch and it was quiet and very relaxed- I usually go once a year around this time and it is always a warm and friendly place with good food

I have lived in the neighborhood for 40 years and this is the first time I've been there. for an early evening meal. The place was really bustling by 6:30, but the servers quite ably kept up with the pace. The food was good, too.

Very crowded, slow service, only adequate food. But most upsetting was their response to handicapped clients. Although we called ahead, and were told that I could come in a wheelchair, we arrived to find that the front entrance had a step which had to be surmounted. The table was situated so that the wheelchair extended into the aisle that people were trying to traverse. We learned that although they are allowed to use a side entrance for wheelchairs, they usually place a table blocking that entrance.

Unbelievable tight space. They probably pretend that this is a French cafe ambiance, but I suspect it is just greed. The more people they can serve overpriced (though excellent) food, the more $$ they make.

It is one thing that every guest who passed behind me kicked my chair (there is not enough space, really), but every waiter did the same. All the time. (No apologies, of course.)

If even waiters can't navigate the space, maybe they should redesign it. Or train the waiters. Or hire tiny waiters. Or accept reservation only from tiny guests.

Our food took a long time, it came out cool to tepid and 2 minutes did not pass without someone bumping into a chair at our table. Have gone to this restaurant many times. This was just unpleasant enough to vow to never return.

I met a friend for breakfast, hoping for something a little special. But the food was only one small step above diner food. The bread had come out of a plastic package, the sausages were identical to the ones served in any New York diner. The eggs and coffee were good. Nice old-style New York environment but for the price they could do much much better.

Sorry, this time the food was disappointing, chicken paillard deceptively described, piled high with enough quinoa to feed 2-3 people, poached egg was hard boiled, bacon lardons barely cooked. Off day, normally reliably good.

My wife and I were visiting New York and celebrated my birthday at Cafe Luxembourg. Not only was the place packed when we arrived, but it remained packed as more diners kept replaying others. Nevertheless, our reservation was honored and we were seated immediately. In addition, in spite of the crowded room, we were comfortably seated and the noise level was surprisingly good.

Our server, Erik, was delightful. Our meals of French onion soup and steak frites were outstanding, and the hot fudge sundae at the end, left a wonderfully sweet taste in our mouths. We plan to return on our next visit to New York.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at Cafe Luxemburg. The restaurant was packed yet the service was perfect- always attentive and helpful. The vegan entree is the best I've had at a non-vegan restaurant - really loved it and found it to be an ample meal. Salads, dinner, desserts were all equally deliscious! The wine choices are very, very good, not the case with many upper westside restaurants. The ambiance is fun and vibrant. I had not been at the restaurant for many years and am so glad that we returned. And was so happy for such a good experience on a holiday.

I decided to try Cafe Luxembourg because I was looking for a restaurant close to our show at the Beacon Theater. I liked the ambiance the minute I walked into the restaurant. It was almost full capacity and the atmosphere felt very lively. I always enjoy French cuisine but my entree was different from what I usually see on a French menu--fish and chips. It was totally comforting. I ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer which came on a bed of shredded carrots and that was delicious. Service was attentive at the appropriate times and I enjoyed my whole dining experience. I highly recommend Cafe Luxembourg.
