Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.
The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.
Each time I go, I am reminded why I go there and what a wonderful bistro it is.
Makes perfect sense that it is always buzzing !
We've eaten here many times over the years and the food and service is consistently quite good.
CL is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. We were a group of 9 and I felt that they couldn't handle us well. Our guest of honor was the last to be served and waited at least 5 minutes for her food after the other 8 of us had been served (and she had a cold lobster roll). My food was warm. The service was only fair - very spotty attention to us. We waited a while for the table to be cleared once we had finished eating. Wouldn't return with a group.
Great burgers and fries. Nice pre-theater place on the UWS if you are going to Merkin Hall.
We had a lovely lunch. it was on the early side 11:30 so it was still quiet. The wait staff were very attentive and we had a wonderful meal. and, the coffee was excellent.
Our waiter was fantastic and took excellent care of our party of 8. We loved the Brussels sprouts salad and my salmon was great. I miss the roasted chicken/frites on the menu but I am a traditionalist.
Thanks for a great night .
Very nice service and food. The best upper west side restaurant.
A professional staff! Always an enjoyable dining experience!
Always festive, always well run, Cafe Luxembourg is a solid choice for solo at the bar or a happy experience with a larger group. Most often crowded and active--fine for all ages with French inspired food but make a reservation!
We had a wonderful pre-opera dinner at Cafe Luxembourg. The food and service were equally excellent. We chose the restaurant for it's convenient location, a short walk to Lincoln Center. I expect to be back next time we are in town.
Our server was super friendly and attentive. It made a huge difference. And the service was fast
Great as usual! It is a neighbirood gen adn I will be back soon
Café Luxembourg never disappoints: it has maintained its high standards since the first time my wife and I lunched there, in the early 80s.
Whenever I leave Cafe Lux after another wonderful meal I say to my self, “Wow, I have such a great life.”
Cafe Luxembourg is a small, classic neighborhood French bistro with a reliable menu, a well-provisioned bar, a friendly atmosphere, and excellent service. We had reservations for a 5:30 p.m. pre-theater mid-week meal, and we were glad we had made them, because the place was already busy when we arrived, even the bar seating full. When we checked in, the host immediately asked if we were headed to a performance, and what time we need to leave. She conveyed that information to our server, who never missed a beat. Service was attentive, efficient, but unhurried. Although the noise level was moderate, we were able to hear ourselves easily for conversation across our table for two. Our meals were beautifully prepared and plated in classic French style. If I still lived down the block as I did decades ago before this cafe existed, I would be a regular so that I could enjoy everything on the menu, including the tempting daily specials. We will definitely be back the next time we're in NYC and headed to Lincoln Center, which is just 5 blocks away.
They were so patient . My friend was a half hour late and they made me feel right at home . Service impeccable as always and food yummy
While quality of the food was above average service was poor. Items we ordered at the beginning of the meal did not appear, it took several requests for that order to be completed. Request for bread was never met, we finally went to get it ourselves. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of tables they had to take care off. Noise level was unacceptably high as customers at the two table next to us, got involved in a very loud at the level of yelling) conversation with each other. Not exactly the kind of gracioius dining experience Cafe Lusembourg promises.
Loved it. Calamari, and beet salad wer fabulous as were the fries. Tables are tight and its noisy , but that wouldn't stop me from going back.
We arrived and we were greeted by the hostess, very pleasant. There was an older woman, not sure what her role but she needs to lighten up, quite dour. Our server was perfect, friendly, asked questions to ensure order was right. Even the busman was nice. the food was delicious and the restaurant wasnt overly busy.
I have always been a huge fan of Cafe Luxembourg for many years but today it seemed off its game. We were here for breakfast and it felt curiously understaffed. Service, always their strong suit, was inattentive. The usually excellent ricotta pancakes were underwhelming. Just an unfortunate day perhaps. It happens but at Cafe Luxembourg it’s really surprising.
Cafe Luxembourg is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We have been going there for years. After more than 30 years, it still serves good quality bistro food and is always busy. Good bar scene as well. The burgers are great and of course Harry's Hot Fudge Sundae.
Outstanding as always. Why have have been a loyal diner for 35 years!
A perfect brunch!
Crowded, but worth it! Great food and superb service.
This classic French bistro is consistently excellent.
Cuisine is prepared de rigeur and to your liking.
Wait staff is professional, accessible and never intrusive.
Their pre-performance service is impeccable and timely.
NYC is lucky to have this keeper.
Excellent service. Delightful and very welcoming staff. Food was very well prepared. Very knowledgeable waiter.
Food was really mediocre and extremely overpriced. We were taking my elderly mother out for a celebratory late lunch in her neighborhood so we were okay paying a premium for convenience. However, her steak was nothing special and we all agreed that the food was better at the Viand Diner on Broadway.
We came for dinner on Thanksgiving since our grown kids were all out of town. We were welcomed so warmly and the hosts, bartenders, servers and brilliant manager Umberto made us feel as if we had dinner with the family. Delicious food, festive atmosphere—a truly splendid evening.
We had Thanksgiving dinner at Cafe Luxembourg and enjoyed every moment. The service was attentive but not intrusive, the meal was delicious although I was expecting a carved fresh turkey rather than a turkey roll but never the less, everything was prepared well and served attractively. We especially appreciated the special consideration the Maitre'd gave us due to my husband's temporarily handicapped condition, especially on such a busy day for the restaurant. I would recommend Cafe Luxembourg to anyone who enjoys an fine french bistro menu and excellent professional service.
A wonderful neighborhood experience for us who are not in the neighborhood. It was a Thanksgiving meal, although we did not have much turkey. Other dishes were wonderful. Waiter was fabulous, attentive, friendly and made the experience better. Very busy, but it did not hinder the service.
Cafe Luxembourg is always a treat...and especially on Thanksgiving with family. Such a treat....as close to perfection as a cafe can get...and it's been doing it this way since the 1980's.
Don’t order the lobster roll. It’s two hors d’eurves trying to pass for an entre. Too much mayo and day old bun.
Great food, ambience and service. A local treasure.
Perfect in every way. A go-to. Always
We brought our 10 month old grand daughter for lunch, the staff was fantastic!
We visit Cafe Lux every time we are in NY. Always a great choice.
As always, the Cafe is a great neighborhood luxury...does sometimes get too noisy, but we love the
the place....service was difficult this time.
Food is consistently good. The service also is attentive.
We had to add
We did not enjoy our visit at Cafe Luxembourg. It took over half an hour for a waiter to take our order. The table are so crowded that waiters kept bumping my chair around. The food was nothing special. My friend had the worst stomach ache after our lunch. I will not be returning there.
