Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.
The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.
Always very consistent terrific service and really wonderful food
Been dining here since the 80s! Tonight’s meal (our chef son’s 20th bday) was one of the best, including favorites like steak tartare and soup a l’onion and superb specials green pea vichyssoise and scallops with sun choke purée.
Always a great place to dine. Exceptional service and beautifully presented.
Always a pleasure dining at Cafe Lux! Great food and drinks and service!
We have been going 35 years, first as a couple and now with 1 college daughter and 1 already college graduated daughter for every special occasion, like birthday, graduation and so forth. We love here
Always amazing! Great New Yorker restaurant that offers perfect food and excellent service not to mention a star sighting on a regular basis!
I have been going to Café Luxembourg for quote some time. It has never lost its cool. Great food, great service (thank you Dan!), great ambiance. The hostesses were fantastic. We had a great table (thank you for accommodating us!) - a great evening and a great time!
As usual, the food and service were excellent! Every time I go there I feel like I’m in Paris.
We five are long time diners at Cafe Luxembourg, especially on birthdays. Therefore, we could probably recite the menu for memory, which definitely suggests a few changes every so often might be a thoughtful idea. The food is well prepared but simply too predictable. This particular evening we had a Philippino waiter who was superb and sported a marvelous sense of humor. We will no doubt be back for another birthday.
Old-time standby that’s kept up with the times. Just lovely for lunch
Fantastic restaurant ... great food & service!
I eat at Cafe Lux often - it is a totally reliable good meal with attentive service and a good vibe.
Met an old friend for lunch yesterday. The place was fairly quiet as it's the middle of August. (How quiet was it? It was so quiet that we couldn't pick up the conversation of the celebrity sitting at the next table. ) Staff was very accommodating on giving us a quiet table for three even though there were only two of us. The kitchen was quick. I had the lobster roll with a salad. As someone who spent summers in Maine when I was young, I know a good lobster roll from a pretender, and this one is the real deal. Cudoes to chef.
Sauce of the fish was mediocre
We visited for pre-theater dinner on Saturday night. The service was excellent and atmosphere was nice but the food was such a disappointment for the classical French restaurant. Appetizers were good and no complains: octopus and beet salat. But, I had a duck breast for an entrée, besides that presentation was very immature (breast was split into two pieces along side), I couldn't cut it with a stake knife that how tough it was, it usually very tender as I like that dish and had multiple times in many other restaurants. Immediately had been noticed by waiter and offered replacement. I choose a sward fish which was a special of the day and I thought it couldn't be the worse. But, fish was a thick brick piece which overcooked from the outside and raw and cold on the inside which I assume that it was cooked half frozen. I didn't want to return for the second time and left the bloody raw part out to show to the chef at the end of the dinner. The host of the restaurant told that chef said that it's normal to have blood inside, which is ridiculous. My friend had shrimp for the main course. The flavor of the dish was good but shrimps were chopped in to pieces which was very strange and I never seen that presentation before. So, from overall experience I would not recommend to anyone to go there for dinner even though the staff was excellent.
One of the deep pleasures of going regularly to Luxembourg is that you know exactly what you are going to get. It is 99% reliable. You even know that if you order your burger rare it will come not quite rare but in between rare and medium rare. If you ask for the bacon on top to be crisp, it will be crisp. If you want the fries well done they will be well done, nicely salted, and delicious. Everything will be exactly as you specified, and very tasty. Service is efficient, friendly, and intelligent.
One of the overall finest dining spots on the upper west side. Perhaps some brief training could make checking in at the front more user friendly.
Always reliable and one of a few neighborhood go-tos north of Lincoln Center.
Classic French bistro! A welcome reliable spot for brunch, lunch and dinner with impeccable service and classic French favorites that has withstood the test of time admirably!
Food is perfection--hamburger, frites, BLT. Absolutely great. Tables are a bit too close together. And prices are steep. But I am already trying to find an excuse to go back.
Cantaloupe gazpacho, soft shell crab, heirloom tomato salad, all wonderful. Tagliatelle special was just “okay”. Restaurant always has excellent service.
Excellent as always. A jewel in NYC’s crown. Amazing how Cafe Lux has is always consistently excellent and a pleasure to visit. The staff is always so exceedingly friendly and excellent.
A favorite restaurant!
Very good food but the prices here have gotten ahead of themselves. Very disappointed in their
Soft Shell Crab special. Something about it being jumbo sized so you would get one. Well if you’ve had soft shells you know they are never big, and this one that I was served was delicious but perhaps 2-3 ozs. at best. Like a snack or an appetizer. Certainly not a main course for $28.00
Three of us w 2rounds of drinks was well over $200. 1app, 3mains.
My charming waiter Michael (Slip) always makes dining at Cafe Luxembourg such an enjoyable experience that I always try to make Cafe Luxembourg a part of a weekend of entertaining friends and family who regularly visit me on the Upper West Side.
We only come here for desert and digestives after LC performances and this place never disappoints. The service is always excellent and attentive. Great ambiance
Having spent many evenings at many restaurants on the UWS, I have never found another with as much charm, as reliable service, and as consistently delicious food as Cafe Luxembourg. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
I have been going to this restaurant for many years. Consistently a great experience.
We were a party of 5 and while everything was DELICIOUS 2 of us ordered the soft shell crab from the specials and received half a crab. I never have an issue with cost when it comes to good food. However, this meal required 2 crabs for the price and for fulfillment. I did speak with one of the managers and they took off 2 drinks from our bill.
Always consistent. One of the best.
Still - after all these years a sophisticated swanky spot. A lovely room with a handsome clientele.
Ideal para el desayuno, los platos som abundantes y super ricos! La atencion es brillante
The waiter were nice. But the lady at the front had a terrible behavior to me. I came with my newborn in a bassinet and didn’t want me to come in at first. But then she said ok but take the bassinet with you and leave the stroller frame outside.... at the end when I want to bring the stroller in to leave she totally refused and gave me an inappropriate look. Nobody was in the restaurant at the time I left... so I wouldn’t had to bother no one... but I had to carry my baby in the bassinet(dangerous) and put him back in the stroller... beside that food were ok but the desert were excellent!!!
Been coming here since 1988. Always a great experience.
I've loved Luxembourg for years. Always good food. Jamie is a fantastic waitperson!
First time, and loved it! A great neighborhood secret.
Food, service, wine A+
Will definitely return 👍
Wonderful as usual. The Cafe is a NYC gem! I am always delighted to enjoy Sunday brunch at the Cafe with a dear friend and we feel so restored after our meal.
I go there often but the last time there were items missing from each entree (i.e. Bacon not on the burger , avocado missing from a sandwich. We had to wait quite awhile after notifying the waiter. This delayed everyone's meal. We went before the theater and it was not busy.
I was waiting for a friend who had been delayed for close to an hour. I was made to feel perfectly comfortable while waiting, water glass refilled, etc. The service was terrific and the food was good, too.
Having been absent from NYC for a couple of months it was lovely to be welcomed back and as always the service, food and ambience were first class.
