Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.
The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.
Classic restaurant where one can not go wrong with the menu, ambiance, or service. When I am on the UWS and thinking of a place to host friends or family for a great meal, Cafe Luxembourg always delivers.
Always a favorite
Casual, relaxed, old-world elegance. Not affected or stuffy. Staff and food are amazing.
Went for lunch. Learned that one of my guests had gotten married at Lumi !upstairs is just great.
I used to come to Cafe Luxembourg back in the 80s, and it still is a great place to go. After all, it is the sister bistro of the Odeon!
The spring menu is very seasonal and very good. The service is always attentive and the staff are quite welcoming. This is truly a neighborhood gem!
Always good. Always will be. Our hang in the hood.
Hi, our household used to be regular at Café Luxembourg for 30 + years. During the past 5 the service by everyone except the bar and clearing staff is hideous. Food arrives cold. Servers do not check in after bringing it to the table. The hosts can't be bothered with a warm welcome. June 20th really was the last time for us.
Awsome staff, awesome food , and awesome atmosphere!
Cafe Lux is an NYC classic and a true gem for all NY'ers. It's our "go-to" spot for any occasion, date night or just to hang at the bar for a stellar martini, their amazing frisee salad, some oysters & frites. We are loyal and true because of their incredible consistency and quality in food and excellent customer service. You won't regret a meal at Cafe Luxembourg.
Always great service & good food
Great meal and service from Krystal! Thanks so much!
Perfect place if you want old world charm diner with Hight energy. Food is always good.
At Cafe Luxembourg, old memories with the new experiences in the making to be enjoyed, be it after an avant-garde dance evening at The Joyce or old school opulence ballet at The Metropolitan, be it seul or with old love rekindled, where modernity always wins over the tired in the teeth old school approach in an environment with lighting by Atelier Jean Perzel de Paris, Cafe Luxembourg is an oasis of style and craftsmanship in a world of preoccupied by the flightiness of the moment, where one meets to just be
As always, a stalwart of the Upper West Side. A very enjoyable time.
Excellent food. Waiter was great.
Wine quality excellent.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars across is because I was at my table for over ten minutes and no one asked me if I wanted something to drink. Finally I had to flag someone and ask for a cocktail I am a pretty frequent diner here, so that was disappointing...and unusual, particularly since it was early, five o'clock, and not at all busy. Overall, this is a great restaurants, as are its two downtown sister restaurants.
Ambit pricey but the food and service were excellent
Mtg an old coworker
I’ve been a fan of Cafe Luxembourg ever since it opened many years ago ( over300 visits). It’s “happening” ambiance, good food and service make for a happy visit every time. Check it out!
I think Cafe Luxembourg is many things to many people. To me, it is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious and the menu varied enough to warrant repeat visits in a short time. The grain bowl, which I had for lunch on my recent visit, was fantastic! The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. The Upper West Side is very lucky to have such a fun, delicious restaurant in our neighborhood.
Love, love this restaurant. Been coming for years. Service was excellent. (Sorry I hit 4 stars and meant five). Food always tasty - Parmesan fries, poussin, profiteroles, martini, Sancerre - all good. If you could send me the name of wine, it would be great. My only criticism would be food presentation was not as sharp as I remembered. I eat at Luxembourg about 4 to 5 times a year. I just thought the presentation was a little off.
Although I’m far from being a regular at this ultra reliable UWS institution I know it well enough to wish I was. Reasonably correct preparations of French classics—really not possible to go wrong with any number of dishes, the steak frites, the skate, the very fresh oysters and seafood and some strictly indulgent desserts, of which I rate highest the creme brûlée. So, so far so good, so what happened? A small fault of service—my son’s not quite empty whiskey glass was taken away without a request for permission, itself not so big a deal, but then our waiter was weirdly obtrusive about it and rather spoiled the vibe of the table, as a consequence spoiling the whole experience.
Cafe Luxembourg is one restaurant whose food is way above average. Evidence of this observation is the crush of patrons there every night. It’s rare to get a table without a reservation.
The french onion soup which lacked flavor.
The lamb chops were very fatty (we should have returned them, but did not do so), a tiny portion, and also lacked flavor.
So, after experiencing the above, we decided to play it safe and order the ice cream sundae for desert.
The chocolate sauce was mediocre at best, and the vanilla ice cream tasted like a generic store brand and there was only a single small scoop.
Reliably spectacular. Always a wonderful experience.
We love Cafe Luxembourg even if they ran out of lobster rolls (offering us dessert & coffee was gracious). Will be back.
Delicious food, friendly server, beautiful decor. Happy we went before noon on Sunday with a reservation to get in rather quickly.
How was Cafe Lux? Slipping. It has never been a good value but we adore the ambiance and still do, and so we spend the money. But the brioche bun for my lobster roll was doughy and bottom heavy and there was very little lobster compared to past orders. Fries were perfect. Service was inattentive and unengaged. That’s a first, too. This was my first visit where there were seats at the bar and open tables at 7:30.
Great food service butnoise level tooooo high
Always great! Please bring back the gougeres!
We are regulars when we are in the city. Your little lobster rolls are delicious but we were disappointed in your bowl with the chick peas, favs beans, etc. It had no flavor & needed something to give it a kick, maybe arugula or herbs. The red grapes added a great taste. My friend suggested perhaps a mild blue cheese or sharp cheddar.
Thanks for listening! We’ll be back!
Has been a favorite, but have noticed a decline in recent years. I always counted on their poached eggs, never had to worry about under or over cooked .... until last time and again today. Ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict and one egg was perfect, runny yolk, cooked white. Second egg, runny white - won't eat undercooked egg whites so back it goes. Then a detailed conversation ensues with the server that I must want a medium cooked egg. Nope, just a properly cooked soft boiled egg like the first one. The hostess even comes over to let me know that the food is coming .... Takes about forever for this to come out of the kitchen and yuo, you guessed it, overcooked.
The server asks how it was, and I answer honestly. Of course, do I want another .... nope, outta time. The hostess comes over and asks the same thing, very little response.
I guess at that point I expected some sort of comp, if only for having to explain myself so many times, maybe our iced coffee or dessert .... but nope. Why all the inquiries if nothing was done to make up for their error?
BTW, the hueves ranchero were rated bland by my hubby. The lemon tarte was very yummy but leave off the meringue puff as it was desiccated.
$100 brunch ..... will be looking elsewhere in the future.
Leslie, our server was our savior‼️ She was wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu😋
Cafe Lux- Perfect every time.
Wonderfully consistent for both quality of food and service
Excellent - very accommodating
