Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.
The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.
Our favorite close to Lincoln Center and outstanding in any neighborhood. Try the tuna tartare, it's unique and sensational.
Always a perk up to eat at Lux. Food consistent, cocktails a tad high, service this time was distracted. But still enjoyable.
One of my favorite restaurants - totally reliable and never disappoints - excellent food and service - and you can decide how you want to eat - i highly recommend this restaurant!!
Wonderful place to meet up with friends. The hosts are very kind and make you feel right at home. Food is good but a bit pricey so won’t be going often.
We had a friend in from Russia who we rarely see and the hostesses and the waiter were incredibly nice as we stayed to chat for a while on a busy Sunday brunch time. The food was excellent and out quickly. We loved it.
Perfect place to relax after theater or movie and enjoy traditional bistro fare and delicious unpretentious wine.
We've been going there for years and it's one of our favorite restaurants in NYC!! The ambience, the service, and the food are always are incredibly consistent and we love bringing friends there any time we have visitors from out of town for a special treat!!!
Mussels were great but duck was disappointing.
My halibut was undercooked and raw in the center (I couldn't even cut it in half) and had to be send it back. They returned my same piece of fish all cut up in pieces after being cooked more. I was surprised when I was not comped for that item on the bill but charged a full price after that mess. We also arrived on time for our reservation and were asked to wait.
Loved the traditional coq au vin with just a hint of an edge (in a good way) and the smoky octopus was tender and almost creamy.
I love Lux. I wanted a special spot to hang with my girlfriends - one of whom was visiting and one who is moving from NYC soon — so I picked Lux for a girls brunch. Needless to say, we were in no mood to rush. I was so thankful that we felt no pressure to hurry up. We luxuriated in the atmosphere and food, picking at the yummy banana bread and slowly eating our eggs or croque monsieur. Our waiter was one of the usual young guys who always has a happy, service oriented demeanor. It was so lovely ... I am never disappointed at Cafe Lux. (And please never change your yummy house potatoes!)
This was our belated Valentines Day dinner. We had not seen each other in a while, and at first we’re going to choose a different, fancier place. But we decided instead to go to an old favorite. It was perfect: great food, excellent service, buzzy atmosphere. The perfect evening!
Too loud, tables too closely spaced together, food not partucularly good and high-priced and terrible, dim-witted service. My friend said she enjoyed herself, though -- it was her recommendation.
I’m an Irregular Regular
I go whenever I can
The ambience was nice, but the food was subpar. I would only return if I was in the area.
Our favorite place to go - the service is so good. Professional but friendly at the same time. We will be back!
We've been going to Cafe Luxembourg since it first opened about thirty years ago.
It's always great! The food is prepared perfectly and served with style and care.
The ambience is always pleasing, and sometimes exciting. There is interesting diversity among fellow diners--from film stars to colorful neighborhood eccentrics. But everyone is discrete. The staff, particularly Gita at the front desk could not be nicer or more helpful. This is truly a neighborhood gem and while it is decidedly American, it has the manners, style and the bravura of a terrific European bistro.
This is a really great place with a beautiful bar. The tables are close together, and it is very crowded and very loud. However, the food was tasty. Some of the portions are small, but normal for a European restaurant. Service was spectacular, but felt a little rushed. We had a main course and desserts and were walking out one hour after we arrived.
Food is always consistent. Very good. Nice buzz in the restaurant. A go to restaurant for us..
The French soup was excellent. Everything else was surprisingly bad. The bread was cold and nothing special. The octopus was spongy and lacked seasoning and definitely was not grilled.
I got sick from the short rib. It was super fatty and the polenta was undercooked with no flavor.
The waiter was pleasant.
I noticed most people ordered the steak with frites and that looked ok.
I have been here for brunch before and it was good.
Fantastic dinner. Busy at 5:30 on a Wednesday but we were seated quickly and the service was excellent. Never felt rushed. Food was delicious and worth the cost.
Always wonderful, wonderful. My only complaint, as usual, are that the portions are ridiculously small for their cost. I could have fit my Cobb Salad in the palm of my hand.
always terrific and often with new recipes to enjoy, we have been going there for 20 years, and it never fails to perform.
Our meal at Cafe Luxembourg was, as always, delicious. The restaurant was crowded and seemed pretty noisy when we arrived, but once seated we had no trouble conversing. We love this place and always try to visit when we're in New York.
I love this neighbourhood restaurant. When I visit NY I like to get away from the tourist areas. A local introduced me to this restaurant and I always enjoy taking other out of town guests here
perfect! delicious food, buzzy but not too loud to talk, casual but still classy. great spot for before/after lincoln center.
Food is usually very good but Tuna Tartar was swimming in a noxious liquid and fish special was smokey and not part of the description. Wouldn't have been ordered if I knew.
Fun place and Nick our waiter was awesome!! Brunch was excellent! I had the pancakes and they were the best I've ever had. Ordered a side of berries and it could have been much bigger for the price! Overall great place!
We have been for brunch at Cafe Luxembourg before and always enjoy the cheerful atmosphere and good food. Coffee is delicious.
We loved everything about Cafe Luxembourg, from the ambience to the food to the service! We will absolutely be returning soon!
Very friendly staff and responsive. The food and atmosphere is bistro so be prepared for the "cosy" approach to dining. They have an unusual spin on some dishes so read the description carefully. It is sometimes a creative approach to a standard. Worth tying.
We’re going to theater with Christmas present tickets and decided to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day.
Didn’t matter what worker came by table - always attentive, always assisting.
Can’t wait fir next special occasion. Unfortunately not close to home.
Comfortable, sophisticated, good and not too expensive wine list, food very good to excellent. Very pleasant place to dine.
Always very good. Enjoy having lunch on Friday's.
As usual, we had a lovely time. Always a treat to have an after performance dinner in such a sophistocated locale.
I have gone to and enjoyed Cafe Luxembourg for 30+ years. I guess the new chef wants me to lose weight. The food was scant and my guests and I were all hungry when we left. I loathe nouvelle cuisine.
This is a classic interior and menu, a lovely brassiere. I really appreciated our server’s attention and sensitivity in getting us fed and out in time for a Lincoln Center curtain even though my guest was half an hour late.
My favorite French bistro in New York City -- founded in 1984, but has kept up with the times and is still wonderful for food, service and ambiance. Authentic, with all the traditional dishes, but updated with vegetarian and lighter options. And, incredibly kind, welcoming service. Makes everything taste better!
Essentially my all-time New York City favorite, in my personal experience since September 2001. This fine, fine restaurant has staying power, a wonderful kitchen, and a fresh and polite attitude an European ambience that continue to set it apart. An UWS and a NYC gem.
