Very nice place for brunch--Three of us enjoyed a range of selections-including avocado toast, lobster roll, omelette and shared a profiteroles for dessert.
The ambiance is festive and casual -
Service was good and i would return-
The service was terrible. The waiter was extremely rude and aggressive. This completely ruined our dining experience.
This is my "go to" and I never tire of it or the food.
Every visit just confirms Café Luxembourg’s place in my Top 10 favorite restaurants in New York. Never disappoints.
My Fave in NYC- The lobster roll and steak are my favorites I love the welfleet oysters and the fries are ah mazing. Always feel so welcome here. Thx Luxembourg
Great steak frites! The reason I came! Hit the nail on the head! Will be back.
great place to meet for lunch with friends as the menu has something for everyone
We dined early so it was quiet. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks - recited all the ingredients in everything we inquired about. She was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Each of us had a different fish entree and each was delicious.
I love this neighborhood gem. Sitting at the table looking out the window and watching the neighbors walk by. Meanwhile, lovely food and service. Salads are not over-dressed, the way I like them, the menu is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
And, their coffee is delicious!
Café Luxembourg is an enduring treasure. Casual, simple, elegant, understated, charming and friendly. Oh, and a timeless French bistro menu which consistently delivers. It’s in my neighborhood and I enjoy it regularly for both personal and business dining.
Always delicious with a truly professional wait staff. So popular especially for a restaurant that’s been around since 1984. So happy we live nearby.
Had the tuna tartar as appetizer and scallops as main dish. Both were excellent. the sauce o nthe tuna tartar was exceptional.
The waiter was extremely efficient.
The atmosphere was superb. And not very noisy despite the restaurant being full - a rarity for New York City.
The fish entrees were exceptional as was the service. Looking forward to coming back!
I love this restaurant. The food and the service never disappoints. It's such a cozy, romantic spot that I always look forward going to!
I've lived on the Upper West Side for as long as Cafe Luxembourg has been open. I moved recently and now live only 2 blocks from the restaurant. It's my "go-to" restaurant for dinner, brunch, etc. because the food has always been very good. The service always of a high quality. To get really specific. I regularly go for brunch and am addicted to the salmon eggs benedict. YUM! My only complaint is that the restaurant is always full and the seating can sometimes be a little tight. However, I'm a loyal customer and will remain so.
One of our favorite NYC restaurants. Great bistro style atmosphere. We had a half dozen island creek oysters (one of our favorites) followed by octopus salad which was terrific, onion soup, then we each had halibut, which was also terrific.
Cafe Luxembourg never disappoints. In the 20+ years I have been going to this restaurant - it has consistently been delicious, welcoming, fun, and overall, a quintessential NYC experience.
This was our first time here and we loved the ambiance. Service was excellent. A little disappointed that there were not a few more choices of entrees on the menu. We were told that the chicken was half a chicken - was delicious but seemed mostly breast and tiny. Not unhappy with choosing this restaurant because we like to find new places even those that have been around a while. Would we return - maybe.
Been a patron for years. Lovely environment. Service is cordial and attentive.
But lately I’ve noticed a dramatic change in portion sizes. I’m tiny, and I left hungry.
I am a regular customer , and love everything at Cafe Luxembourg .
However , two things changed on the menu
Elegant yet casual, very friendly staff, exceptional food. Ask for Daisy!
The service was friendly (Jamie is a star!), the food was delicious, and the martini was ice cold. This is why they’re still going strong after 35 years.
The whole experience was great. Our waiter Taylor was very pleasant, professional and fun. It happened to be the 35th anniversary so any complimentary drink of our choice were offered which was a lovely touch. My tuna burger was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful and moist. My friend had a Luxembourger that was also delicious. Every person who worked there was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I can't wait to return!
The new chef has tweeked the menu, which is too bad as many locals loved it just the way it was. For example, the chicken paillard now has salad instead of quinoa and radish, which is what made it special. This is a lovely restaurant, but I will be going less frequently.
If you want good reliable bistro food in an warm friendly atmosphere, Cafe Luxembourg is for you. We've been dining there for many years and this restaurant never fails to satisfy. Good bistro food served by an experienced wait staff in a spirited but comfortable environment. If you are in the neighborhood be sure to stop in for a bite. It gets pretty busy so make a reservation to ensure you will be seated quickly.
I want to be able to keep loving this place, which has been something of an institution for 35 years now, but they're making it harder and harder to do so.
The bountiful portions of the past are mostly gone. My miniscule $17 grilled octopus appetizer consisted of exactly one small tentacle; it was gone in four bites. My $30 steak tartare was startlingly mediocre and bland; I did not see or taste even one caper, and there was no discernable flavor from anchovy, Dijon mustard, parsley, or anything else. It was as if a little dollop of ground round from the meat department at Gristedes was plopped onto my plate straight from the package.
My friend's fried catch of the day was revoltingly raw inside. Even the waiter was slightly mortified looking at it as he carried it back to the kitchen.
The chocolate gâteau dessert was very good.
I'd still give them another chance, but after coming here for over three decades, they've now left me feeling leery about the place.
Terrific food, lovely atmosphere in this upper West Side restaurant with a long, illustrious history. Fantastic grilled octopus, great salads and french fries worth the indulgence.
We went in for my husbands birthday and it did not disappoint. His request? Steak frites! What a fantastic night out.. the service was on point, the steak and my salmon- perfectly cooked. Well done Cafe L!!
Good crowd and energetic buzz on a Sunday afternoon. Great service - prompt, courteous and got everything right. Brunch menu has something for everyone. Great food and great experience!!
Really lovely brunch here on a Sunday afternoon - not hard to get a seat, great neighborhood vibes.
Always buzzing always excellent always enjoyable always get a good meal
Love love love Cafe Lux a true iconic NYC spot. Delicious creative food. But miss the white & dark choc mousse from yesteryear! Our waiter Eric was exceptional efficient and sense of humor. So nice to return after away for many years!
Been a frequent visitor for years as this has been our go to neighborhood place for years. The last few times we’ve noticed that somethings been “off”. And our visit this past Thursday was yet another “off” experience. Food and service were both not up to the level that we’ve grown accustomed to. Hopefully someone’s paying attention an will fix whatever has broken down.
Usually enjoy our dinners at Luxembourg. Had the sea bass listed on the evening special only there was nothing "special" about it--almost tasteless. They've done better.
In spite of a capacity crowd in this very small venue, the service was matched by the (as always) fine food.
We had a fun brunch with friends. Service was excellent. Food was very tasty. We’ll be back again.
I ended up eating alone, on a Saturday night, after a concert performance at St John the Divine. I thought I would get the usual steak-frites or hamburger, but decided to have the special trout with a lovely glass of white wine. It was light enough where I was seated to read my book, and it was not too crowded so not too noisy. It's often bustling.
Seated promptly. Excellent waitress who disappeared for a while. Superb scallops. Somewhat noisy. Fair prices.
food was all good. interesting that it skews quite old in the age of average diner but that might be because we were there very early for pre theater. food was good though the roast chicken dish was overly rich and needed acid. green salad had a lovely dressing and the creme brule with cookies were all good. No bread was offered to the table; I would have liked some. the gougere were under flavored and not hot enough.
it is an attractive room and well located for lincoln center
Good, but too expensive and smaller portions than previous visits
