Overpriced brunch. French toast burned. Food portions small and not garnished or special. Service terribly slow
Recently had Sunday brunch here during a long weekend in NYC. it was our first time to eat at Cafe Luxembourg.
We will definitely be back!!
This was the venue for a family reunion brunch. What a fantastic place. The food was fabulous and the service was friendly and professional. This restaurant is French Bistro in character - both the food and the decor. The tables are packed in so it is quite noisy, but the food is so delicious, who cares!
We were welcomed and treated well by all staff we encountered, and we really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. The food was just overall way too greasy for us. I had the French toast, and it felt caked in grease. The berries were nice. My mom had the BLT, and the bacon on that was also heavy with grease. She liked the light spreading of garlic aioli it came with, though. My Riesling was excellent and my mom’s cocktail was fine. The best part was dessert. Really good Emglish Breakfast and Ear Grey teas. The ginger snap cookies that came with the Creme brûlée were perfect. Loved the place and the people - we suggest lightening up on the grease used to prepare the food.
Such a consistently pleasant restaurant after all these years: an evolving menu with the constant base of excellent bistro food; staff who seem to handle the bustle with ease and good humor; a convivial atmosphere and reservation-friendly.
I love this restaurant . Love the food, the service and the ambience . Every time I am in NY I book there many times
Another excellent pre-Lincoln Center dinner! Excellent food and service. Would recommend the bet salad, salmon, Luxembourger, and Harry’s Hot Fudge Sundae.
We were out celebrating our 37th anniversary and came back to a place we first came in 1983 when they first opened. We loved it then and we still do. Staff has changed and some of the food, but it's still a great place to go and that's why NY is a city of neighborhoods. If you haven't been, you have no idea what you've missed!
They couldn't seat us at time of reservation, but apologized and kept us in the loop. I had requested a quiet corner because this is a noisy restaurant. They put us in the quietest table there is in that restaurant. Very important because one of my guests is elderly and hard of hearing. Also, they never rushed us at all. Unfailingly polite. Mixed reviews on the food. My friend's omelette was superb - rare these days. My tuna burger was mediocre. I ordered it medium rare. It was far from it and had very little taste - and I don't believe there was wasabi mayonnaise as "advertised". But the fries were fabulous. Overall all four of us were very pleased. Lovely neighborhood place still going strong.
Food was fabulous. Great waitor too! Manhattan is loaded with restaurants serving mediocre food at astronomical prices. I loved our meal her. Every single bit of it. Not cheap but delicious. Can’t wait to return for the fall menu!
Food and ambiance were great but the service was particularly good and welcoming.
YUM! Amazing evening from beginning to end. Our waiter was so nice. He even brought a tide stick with a glass of water on a plate when one of us spilled on our clothes. The food was so good! There were six of us and we all loved everything. I love the vibe here. Low key, great lighting, intimate, fun, and most importantly, consistently great food! I used to eat here all the time 25 or so years ago but have moved far from NYC. It's still one of my favorites in the city.
A solid if not spectacular neighborhood restaurant. We had brunch there and the food was your standard eggs benedict etc. A little overpriced for what it offers.
the perfect place to have casual lunch with friends
I ordered the Bisque as a main course, @ $34.- There were 2 shrimp, 2 clams and some lemon, and like 3 table spoons of the bisque, that was it. I was expecting a full bowl like a bouillabaise. So this was not an entree but like an appetizer. Way overprized in my opinion. So I ordered another entree, to have something in my stomach.
Cafe Lux is always good and is a happening scene. The feel of an authentic French bistro fits well with the food and the service.
This is a longtime favorite of ours. Food and service are reliable wonderful. Only problem is that you are squeezed in like sardines and jostled by staff and customers while trying to dine.
Don’t know how they can fix this, except by having fewer tables.
Food was very good as was service. I went on a Monday night and glad I made reservations as it was crowded.
The one thing I didn’t appreciate, was how fast our plates were taken away from us. Literally after our last bite we had people coming by, including the waiter, asking if we were done. I think that is extremely tacky and rude. You should wait until your guest has at least put down their fork, you don’t take away dishes while they are eating.
Always great a true reliable neighborhood place that I enjoy over and over
Café Lux is an old stand-by; we have been going for years. Nothing changes which is both comforting and boring. Staff is always competent and gracious. Cocktails are okay, not great and the same can be said about the food. Although there are printed daily specials (a plus), the rest of the menu has been the same for ages.
One of my family’s favorite restaurants for many years, for pre and post Lincoln Center or a nice Evening out. Good food, warm and cheerful atmosphere.
Cafe Luxembourg is outstanding. Making a reservation is suggested.
Always good - food, service, ambiance. My favorite neighborhood spot.
Always a great experience at the cafe. Went for brunch before the opera and it was had a great meal. Service is as good as the food.
As neighbors we always feel welcomed and the service is professional and warm-always. Food consistently excellent.
I fell in love at CL on Thursday with an old friend. It was the perfect setting.
Food was uniformly poor and very expensive. Service was also subpar. One of the very few dining disappointments during our weeklong stay.
Very disappointed this time. Usually quite good. Service was atrocious. Food usually MUCH better. Fish special was minuscule . Hope it was just an off night. If not I will reluctantly take it off my list of go to places.
Everything was very nice, specially the staff and our waitress was lovely (I think she was Russian). The ambiance was great the food very good. Only down side was the portions were skimpy for the price. If you're very hungry you might leave not completely satisfied.
Cafe Luxembourg is the best. An UWS institution. Great for celebrities and in the know New Yorkers.
Warm, wonderful and terrific food and service!
I’m a fairly regular patron of Cafe Luxembourg. I’ve been coming here since they opened in the ‘80’s. Most recently it seems to me that they’ve made their portions significantly smaller rather than continue to raise their already high prices. Maybe others don’t notice but it it extremely obvious to me. I live across the street from Lux so I’ll likely continue going.
Overall, pretty good. Host staff should not hover and stare. Let guests finish their meal in peace.
Favorite NYC restaurant; always outstanding, particularly staff, warm, thoughtful, genuine warmth.
It’s a lovely restaurant great ambiance, wonderful polite service , usually have been happy with the food , but not so much this time I was very disappointed the French onion soup which I usually enjoy was too sweet , maybe they’re using different onions, and the steak frite was only mediocre
Always a great meal at Cafe Lux! We had an early reservation in order to make an 8pm curtain call. There seemed to be a bit of a snafu in the kitchen but our waiter and the manager were extremely apologetic promising we would make our show. Food was delayed but delicious and as promised we made our show. They even offered to put us in a car to the theater but no need. Thanks for always being a classy joint!
Always a pleasure to eat here. Food is great and service is professional and friendly. Good crowd of people too
Excellent pre fixe dinner, great service. Be aware that before a show at the Beacon Theatre it was crowded and noisy but the terrific food and service more than made up for it. We tried tuna tartare and grilled octopus appetizers and steak frites and salmon entrees. Perfection. Even the wine and drinks were memorable. No room for dessert but eyeing other tables they looked wonderful, especially a large creme brûlée more than enough for two.
Always fun to have dinner at this steady dependable establishment with good fun and wine.
Took my best friend for her Birthday. I had been there before, but she hadn't. She LOVED it.
Great food, service and atmosphere. We're going back with our husbands. A little expensive,
but worth it. I had the omelet, which was delicious. She had the salmon and salad. They were
both cooked as we ordered it. The chocolate dessert was yummy!!!!
